On November 21, I had an x-ray and received a diagnosis from my local urgent care that I had a broken bone in my foot. They referred me to a specialist at Phelps Health to receive treatment. On November 23, I visited Phelps Health and received a 10-minute verbal consultation with specialist ********* *****. No other services or materials were provided. He explained that it is a minor injury, not requiring surgery, and that it will heal if I keep it in a boot. They did not provide the boot or anything else, only the 10-minute conversation was provided. For this 10-minute conversation during which nothing of real significance was shared, I was billed $810 (see attached "Phelps Health Bill" pdf. After receiving the bill, I called Phelps Health and explained that I believed the charge was extremely high for the services rendered. They told me the bill was correct and I should call my insurance company if I had a dispute. I called my insurance company (*****) and they simply confirmed that the bill is correct. I wanted a second opinion on my foot, so I received a referral to see specialist ****** ******** **** ***** for a second opinion. Identical services were rendered and ***** billed me for $166. See the attached "***** Bill" pdf. Again I want to emphasize, the services these two organizations rendered were identical in every single way, there is absolutely no difference at all. Phelps Health is overbilling me by nearly 400%.

I had the above account reviewed by Phelps Health Assistant Director of Physician Billing.  She is also a certified coder and manages the physician coding department.  Based upon the documentation provided in the patient medical record and guidelines provided by the American Medical Association CPT professional code book, all charges and coding were appropriate for this visit.  The patient's insurance was billed for this service and contractual adjustments totaling $344.31 were applied to this account.  This left the patient a balance of $465.69.  The patient paid this on 1/10/2023 and now the balance on the account is $0.00.

I called the patient and spoke to her on 1/23/2023 and explain the charges in detail with her.  The balance on the account is now $0.00.  Phelps Health considers this matter resolved.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

Phelps Health, **** * **** ******* ****** ** *****, keeps sending us bills for my mother-in-law, **** *** *****. She died May 4, 2022, I have been to their billing department and just called them last week. Get his bill this week. They say that they know she is dead but they have a process to go through. What kind of business is that? Keep harassing her family! We didn't even know she was taken to the hospital until her death. She was in ***** ***** *** ******* **** ********* ****** ** *****, February 25, 2022-May 4, 2022. Get them to quit harassing us. Enough for our loss without people harassing us.

Based upon the information provided by Ms. *****'s son-in-law, Phelps Health has extended a Presumptive Assistance or Charity Care adjustment on the $227.66 balance.  This balance was for self-administered pharmacy items that were due from the patient per Medicare guidelines.

Since the patient is deceased with no funds remaining, Phelps Health has processed an adjustment on the account and this balance is now $0.00.  Phelps Health considers this matter resolved.
