I spoke with ************************* by phone after discovering this company on line in early December 2023. I was interested in purchasing a 18' x 40' building with an enclosed area containing a 10' x 10' frame out suitable for a garage door and an entrance door on the opposing ***** end. The enclosed area is 18' x 25'. The remaining 18' x 15' area was to be framed as a porch. The contract that was signed included a 20% down payment and I was told that I would have to provide a telescopic forklift or set up scaffolding up to the floor area elevation on three sides since the building foundation and concrete slab is on a slope. After pricing cost to rent scaffold (exceeded $1300) and finding out that the rental company did not set the scaffold up, I opted to reserve a,telescopic fork lift for $280/day since I am disabled and cannot set up the scaffold. A train of e-mails with building site photos followed requiring the scaffold and fork lift before the building could be constructed (required by the installer Carolina ********* In addition, the initial contract did not meet the building code and I had to get Bulldog to revise the contract and pay additional money for the down payment. At this point in time, **************** has canceled their 4/30-5/1/2024 appointment to install my building siting that liability/safety is the reason. I feel that I should get my complete down payment refunded by Bulldog since I am assuming no company's liability and worker safety responsibilities. I believe this to be a corporate responsibility that they are trying to unload on me.Bulldog Steel Structures, Inc. Response

Hello,We have tried our best to assist you with resolving issues between the scaffolding and the lift, as the lift was not needed. We understand your frustration and apologize for any inconvenience this situation may have caused. Regarding the down payment, Bulldog Steel Structures retains it for the services rendered by the dealer. We retain this deposit to ensure that our building specialists are compensated fairly for the services they have provided to the customer and work on quotes, customer correspondence, manufacturer correspondence, etc. We do appreciate your honest feedback.Review from Nick S.

Bulldog was a great company to work with. Their representative Will E***** was always willing to help and coordinate all aspects of the project and was very responsive. He kept me updated on the project and followed through on everything they promised. I felt comfortable with Bulldog that I recommended them to a coworker. I would recommend Will E***** to anyone.Bulldog Steel Structures, Inc. Response

My review is below, but I want to address two of the complaints that you see on BBB and how that was not may experience. First, Bryan at Bulldog was very transparent when we had a discussion that ANY modification that I do to the building would potentially void the warranty. This was done up front, before any contracts, money, etc. I simply asked lots of questions and Bryan was always very responsive and upfront. So yes, modifying the build could void the warranty. To me that makes sense, like taking apart my new iphone will void my warranty. SECOND, Bulldog was very informative to let me know that there are three parties involved with a project like this, which is normal in this industry. You have the design and sales, which is Bulldog, the manufacturer which is Carolina Carports, and then the crew that builds it. ALL THREE were very easy for me to work and deal with, with an A+ experience from all three. Onto my review. Working with Bryan at Bulldog was the absolute best. I came across them in doing my research for the best steel buildings and of course I wanted to make sure they were going to be the best for my project. I narrowed it down to 3 three companies, and from the start Bryan was the most responsive and transparent person to work with and their bid was simply the best and most affordable price. Working with Bryan felt like working with someone I had known for a long time. I asked LOTS of questions, maybe enough to be annoying, but he always quickly answered them. Now having completed my steel pole barn project, I can say that his answers were 100% spot on for the way this building project went. Bulldog's price was almost $30,000 CHEAPER than a traditionally stick built pole barn from a local contractor. The quality of the steel and skill of the crew that put it up were simply the best, it only took them 6 days to complete the building. I could not be happier with this pole barn building. It turned out amazing!Bulldog Steel Structures, Inc. Response

Bulldog Steel Structures, Dobson, NC, encouraged me and aided me to design a metal building for a garage, office and studio, to be built by Carolina Carports, and charged me more than $7,000 for their design work, without notifying me at any time, in any way, that my plans, including putting in electrical wiring and insulated garage doors, would void my building warranty with Carolina Carports. I had to pay the $7,000 deposit to Bulldog Steel Structures before I could see the contract with Carolina Carports. I will NEVER work with Bulldog Steel Structures again, because they did not alert me that my plans would void my building warranty with Carolina Carports, and I will NEVER work with Carolina Carports again because they permit "local dealers" like Bulldog Steel Structures to mislead their customers as I was mislead. SHAME ON BOTH FIRMS. I will warn anyone thinking of working with Carolina Carports that they will void their building warranty if they put electricity for lighting or insulated garage doors or heating and air conditioning equipment in ANY of their buildings. Who does not need electricity in a storage building?Bulldog Steel Structures, Inc. Response

Mr. ******, while we understand your frustration with the manufacturer’s terms, we do feel that it is important to mention that the contract was sent to you for signature on June 29, 2022, at 11:47 AM, to which you applied your signature on June 29, 2022, at 2:09 PM. The payment was not due prior to you signing the contract as we understand that customers need time to review the correctness of their order and to review terms, conditions, and warranties for both Bulldog Steel Structures and the manufacturing company, in this case, Carolina Carports. The payment invoice was not sent to you until July 6, 2022, after you had already signed the contract, to which payment was made at 11:46 AM of the same day. While the warranty is not ours to give or take away, we did speak to Carolina Carports on your behalf when you first expressed your frustrations to us. We were able to get Carolina Carports to offer an electricity waiver to their terms as long as the modifications do not affect the structural integrity of the building or cause issues that could lead to a leak or other problems. Unfortunately, they drew the line at adding HVAC. We do apologize that this was not sorted out before the installation of your building, however, if we do not receive any questions about the terms then our team is under the impression that they are all read and understood. We are meeting with our team to come up with ways to hopefully avoid any misconceptions in the future. We pride ourselves on being fully transparent with our customers and we are always looking for ways to grow and evolve. Again, we do apologize for the frustrations this has caused and you are always more than welcome to give us a call at (888) 551-2156 for any additional questions or concerns.Customer Response

The fact of the matter is Bulldog Steel Structures did not alert me at the start of this process, or any any time during the process of designing the building, that what I wanted to do with the building that Bulldog Steel Structures designed with me would void my building warranty with Carolina Carports. And, Carolina Carports does not make obvious, in any way, on its web site that their contract includes a sentence, buried at the end of their contract, which states that ANY change made by the customer to the building will void the building warranty - including adding electrical wiring, insulated garage doors, insulation by another manufacturer, heating and air conditioning, OF ANY KIND. How many customers, such as I am, design a, 30' by 60' buildings for garage, art studio and office, in Virginia, who will not want interior electric lighting, and heating and air conditioning? Both of your firms, Bulldog Steel Structures and Carolina Carports, are complicit in this false advertising, in my opinion. Why not serve your customers well and give them truly INFORMED CONSENT about this sentence, up front and in an obvious way, before they become engaged with your firms? This is such an important sentence to Carolina Carports, what possible justification can Carolina Carports offer for not telling potential customers about it ON YOUR WEB SITE, and VERY EARLY in your sales process? This is such an important sentence to Carolina Carports, how can Bulldog Steel Structures justify charging customers to design buildings that Bulldog Steel Structures knows will void the building warranty from Carolina Carports?
