Had two dental procedures due. Paid the dentist the balance due for that procedure. When I received my statement from Ameritas I found out that I over paid for the procedures Called Ameritas. The agent told me that balance showed on the statement was correct and that I overpaid the provider. I called the dentist and person in charge of insurance claims told me that Ameritas was forcing them to charge MetLife prices. She told me that they are contacted with Ameritas and they are going to use the fees that they are contracted to use. So, I contacted Ameritas and talked to a customer service representative. She told.me that the providers were given the option to use the MetLife pricing. Apparently my provider decided to opt out. How was I suppose to know? So does this mean that my provider is out of network? Are my statements of service reflecting MetLife pricing? Once again I called Ameritas and asked to speak to a supervisor. Of course one was no available. I was told that a supervisor would call me within 24 or 48 hours. I'm still waiting. It just hit me. If I have to find a new dentist. I guess I have to ask if they take Ameritas Dental. And if they do are they using the MetLife pricing plan.Review from Steven W

I paid into Ameritas Dental insurance for 3 years and 2 months. I followed the increase of coverage for 3 years. My dental, Mid West dental in Plymouth, WI. explained the need for dentures for my upper right side. I waited till after March 2024 to complete my 3rd year with Ameritas so as to have payment from them per the percentage they would pay. My dentist sent the approval to Ameritas which unturned came back saying they would approve the procedure. I went ahead with it in April 18th of 2024. Come June 1st of 2024 I decided to not continue with Ameritas since they were not giving a larger amount of percentage coverage. I recieved notice that Ameritas did not cover their percentage of $2993. (89 daus later) I called Ameritas and the gentleman stated they never recieved the bill. I called the dentist which who stated they did send the bill. I questioned and stated I would have never gone through the procedure if the insurance would have declined. The dentist said they did send and received authorization and sent the bill just a few days after the procedure. During the call with Ameritas they said if I paid up the rears from June 1st to Aug. They might pay their portion but even so they only accept the bill within the 90 days. Well I wrote before I did not recieve notice until the 89th day. Regardless, they did not keep their end of their procedure. Then came up with a lame excuess of a missing tooth clause. Possibly buried deep in some fine print or just made it up to make excuse of none payment. I would like to be reimbursed the $2993 which i finally placed on a Care Credit Card which now needs to be paid before there begins the 34% interest rate. Please help. Thank you. Cheryl Taylor Don't use this company I've read many of these complaints and looks like most are seniors as myself which was through my Medicare enrollment was when I was introduced to them. Worst dental insurance. I ended up paying out of pocket cause the 3 dentist I went to refused to file a claim for me. They said that I have to pay fitst then submit my claims. I payed $170 at first dentist who sent me to another. There I payed $ 150 and they sent me to an oral surgeon. I then payed $ 875 to get my tooth pulled. I cancelled my policy. I shouldn't have to be the one submitting claims!!Review from Sharon R

I have buyers remorse! I bought Ameritas PPO Plus dental policy in May 2024 & I just CANCELLED it today. This is the worse dental PPO policy ever & I paid extra for PPO Plus. Nothing but a scam. On my first preventative visit I had to pay $85, while they paid $8.60. I had to pay for the X-rays- my first time ever in life. I was referred to & went to an oral surgeon for just a consult & I had to pay $125 while once again Ameritas paid pennies. Their directory is 98%+ wrong & grossly outdated causing me ridiculous stress & HOURS of extra work trying to validate acceptance at many dentists in my area. I tracked down many dentists who were shown as in-network in Ameritas provider directory only to find out that they had moved out of state or hadn't accepted Ameritas in 7-10 yrs yet Ameritas had multiple records w/locations all showing them as local to my area! I'm disgusted. I discovered contrary to their advertisements, they are NOT widely accepted. They have such a bad rep that dentist who do accept Ameritas want $150 payment up front. I refused. I've had to fight with dental receptionists & get Ameritas on 3-way calls EVERY time I tried to schedule an appt and EVERY time I went to dentist. I'm done! I won't be doubling down & staying with these jokers for more misery & only to find out what many others have said which is that they won't pay even when they pre-approve planned work which BTW took almost 2.5+ months to get a response from Ameritas in my case. Luckily I decided to not use a periodontist & I didn't go through with it. I would've been stuck with a huge bill despite a pre-approval. Ameritas is THE WORSE dental insurance. It is worse than state Medicaid dental coverage and that's really saying something. Medicaid dental at least covers preventative & X-rays. Ameritas gives creative reasons why they don't cover services while my policy says it should be covered. STEER CLEAR OF THESE TRICKSTERS.Review from Melody M

You cannot get direct answers. There is no consistency in their policies. It just depends on the CSR that you get. IF you file a claim, be aware. They DO NOT send certified mail. They DO NOT use a tracking number. They DO NOT do a wire transfer. They “trust” the standard mail system. You MUST have a FedEx account (Luckily free to sign up) but you MUST pay to have the check FedExe’d to ensure it delivered safely. SO difficult to work with. Don’t use these “small” insurance companies. We closed out with METLIFE. No problems. They even wired transferred the money.Review from Nazareth F

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! I have a life insurance with this company for years, now that I want to cancel the policy the penalty is half of the money you have save with them and its been months for them to pay me back. Still waiting for the check. I don't know what to do? I need help to collect my money.Review from Mikaeli B

TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE. I have this insurance for dental coverage. I pay every month for the PRIVILEGE to use this insurance and when I do they deny coverage? According to their “guidelines” I did not have enough decay to warrant coverage for a crown, even though TWO dentists advised the procedure. I was experiencing sensitivity and instead of ignoring it and jeopardizing my health further, I decide to be proactive and resolve my suffering, but get stuck with a 1700$+ bill. The dentist who performed the procedure even physically mailed them evidence of decay and appealed their denial and they STILL upheld their ruling. Terry, their customer service rep, was zero help. Just trying to understand what level of pain someone has to experience in order for this company to warrant coverage.Review from Janice L

such a scam, i had a cracked tooth and needed a crown to prevent further decay and pain, my dental insurance got bought out by Ameritas, I never got a policy or was aware that my benefits had diminished so much. Anyway, I had coverage for major services but just like everyone elses review, they denied my claim saying there isnt sufficent evidence of tooth decay or traumatic injury resulting in loss of tooth structure. My dentist said they've never seen anything like this before, we have appealed it twice and gotten denied both times.
