Old World Craftsman Nebraska was hired to perform work regarding an insurance claim from a hail storm. Scope of work included replacing the roof, gutters/downspouts, painting the trim and garage door on the house, and replacing window screens. Payment of $********* was given to Old World Craftsman in August 2022 and the check was cashed on September 2, 2022. This payment was for the scope of work listed above. Roof and gutters were installed correctly and to my satisfaction. Old World Craftsman decided to terminate my contract on May 11, 2023 without painting my house or replacing window screens, which they had already received payment for. I am requesting a refund in the amount of $******** for the work that was paid for but not performed. This amount can be found in the insurance adjuster's report on page 3 (attached). Line items for Fascia, Painting/Staining, and Screens are $******, $******, and $******** respectively. Adding these up totals $********. Please mail payment to my address.

This is in response to the claims lodged:

      1.  I am licensed in the City of ***** to perform the work contracted.

      2. I do have a permit for the services rendered (#*******************), see attached.

      3.  The homeowner's original shingle had been discontinued, per the roofing supplier, and they only had a few bundles in their warehouse, so the roofing supplier sent me the closest shingle to the original. The homeowner was not happy and wanted the original shingle, he instructed us to stop installing the roof. So, I contacted the roofing supplier and asked them if they could possibly find any leftover ones in other locations, they said, "You know David, you're not legally obligated to do this," and I said, "I know, but you know me, and I just want to make this client happy." So, they called all their warehouses to see if they could find any leftover shingles, which they did, and had them dropped shipped from several different locations throughout the Midwest, these facts can be verified by the roofing supplier, and if needed, I can provide all documentation related. I explained all of this to the homeowner, it seemed like he didn't understand the situation nor appreciate what I was doing for him; nonetheless, we tore off the part of the roof already installed, and installed the leftovers which we just barely had enough. My roofing subcontractor charged me for 2 installs, 1-1/2 tear-offs, and I had to eat all the extra materials that were wasted. This amounted to about $***** dollars which I'm  now going to invoice this homeowner for, why should I be a nice guy when he's been all over the internet complaining about Old World and misstating the facts; in fact, I believe he made a statement or review claiming I wasn't licensed which I have been for almost 10 years; moreover, I think it was also stated that I didn't pull a permit which I  did. As far as refunding money, unless i missed an email or something, this the first of hearing this. Furthermore, as per attachment, the RCV which is the amount the contractor is due when the job is completed, and the roof and gutters were completed, and to his satisfaction, see attached "screen-shots" the RCV for both of these along with permit cost totals $********* thereby the client owing Old World $** (this doesn't include the aforementioned additional costs)! This whole problem has been very stressful and Old World has done over 500 jobs in ******* over the last 10 years with pretty much a perfect record, and this client has been one of the tougher ones not only to please but to appreciate the losses Old World incurred to make him happy. This complaint should be null and void and an apology should be given!

I signed a contract with Old World Craftsman to replace roofing and gutters, paint the window trim, fascia, and garage door, and replace window screens. Old world craftsman did not paint my house or replace window screens and terminated my contract on May 11. They were paid for all of the work listed above.

The contract was for “damages to above residence for insurance proceeds.” Per the insurance adjuster’s report, which itemized the proceeds paid, $****** was allotted for fascia painting, $****** for painting/staining of windows and garage door, and $******** for window screens. The total of these items is $********, which Old World Craftsman should refund to me as they did not complete the work and were already paid for it.

I texted Mr. ******* after he terminated the contract that he owes us money for the work that was not performed. Additionally, I sent a letter to Old World Craftsman business address on May 15 stating the facts regarding the contract and requesting a refund for the work not performed. The letter was sent through certified mail and delivered on May 17. Please see attached letter.

If Old World incurred more costs for roofing and gutters than allotted by ******** ****** *********, then they can file supplemental claims with ******** ******.

I received a text message from Mr. ******* on September 26, 2022 where he admitted the wrong shingle was installed and admitted fault for ordering the incorrect shingle. He offered me $**** to keep the incorrect shingle or offered to replace it with the shingle we originally requested. See attached text message. This message will also be sent to ******** ****** *********.

I posted a 1 star review of Old World Craftsman on ****** around 9 pm on the evening of May 11.  Mr. ******* messaged me the following morning threatening me and claiming, “The 4 women that slandered me aren’t my clients and never have been. So yeah, it’s a bit difficult chasing them down but you’re easy to find.” My review was deleted the following morning around 8 am, causing no damage to the company. No other reviews have been left on any sites. Old World’s claim that I have been “all over the internet complaining about Old World and misstating the facts” is simply not true.

I had no issues with the final product for both the roofing and the gutters. Old World admitted fault on installing the incorrect shingle and is responsible for those costs.

Mr. ********* response to my BBB complaint is side stepping the main issue at hand, which is that Old World Craftsman was paid for services they did not perform. Old World owes me a refund in the amount of $******** for not painting or replacing window screens. Any costs for the roofing and gutters incurred above the amount allotted by ******** ****** ********* company can be taken up with them. These would not include costs for which Old World admitted fault to.

In this response, I agree, the primary issue is payment. Even though I've explained this to Mr.  *******, and I think it was touched on in our first response, here it is again: Mr. ******* gave Old World a check for $********* and this covered the RCV of the roof portion and the gutter portion of the claim; in fact, after the cost of the permit Mr. ******* actually owes us $**. I've explained this to him but he doesn't seem to get it, so I contacted his adjuster at ******** ****** and asked him to send me an email confirming that I was correct, Im including that email as an attachment, along with the page of his original claim that shows all of this is correct. I believe the permit attachment was in the last email. A ***** person who was never my client nor her 3 friends who "doxed" me on the internet, I think Mr. ******* saw this and he thought he'd jump on the bandwagon, but then removed his ****** complaint, hmm, I wonder why,if it was legitimate? My corporate attorneys said I have to show a loss regarding these lies and accusations. Well, we're down to 5 calls a month at Old World, I can prove this because I have an answering service  log all of our calls, when we were at 50 calls a month before all of this began, and who pays me for the countless hours I've spent dealing with this.  Mr. ******* along with these ******** that have been doxing me, I believe, are the sole cause of these losses. I demand an apology, and I demand Mr. ******* stop this ridiculous position he's taken. Again, I got the emails etc regarding the discontinued shingle style, I don't care what I texted or what was said, but again, he's asking for a refund that doesn't exist and I should invoice him for that second roof, which I now will, I think, since he's caused so trouble and losses. I don't really know what else to say, Mr. ******* and these other persons who are responsible for 100s of thousands of losses for Old World need to be held accountable!

      Complaint: ********

I am rejecting this response because:

Old World was given a check for $********* which can be found by taking the ACV, not RCV, of the roofing, gutters/downspouts, fascia, painting/staining, and window screens. The amounts are *********, ******, ******, ******, and ********, respectively. These total $*********. Old World completed the roofing and gutters and can collect the recoverable depreciation amounts from ******** ****** ********* for those two items. Old World was given $******** in ACV for fascia, painting, and window screens which they did not complete and should refund the amount to me.

Old World is claiming I gave them a check for the RCV of the roofing and gutters, which is not true. Those amounts total $*********, and the check was for $********* as exhibited above. ******** ******** payment to me was for the ACV of all items on the insurance adjuster's report, not the RCV. Old World can collect depreciation for the roofing and gutters since those items were completed.

Old World admitted fault to installing the incorrect shingle and is responsible for those costs. They were paid for work they did not perform and should refund me $********. If Old World incurred more costs for roofing and gutters than allotted by ******** ****** *********, they can sort it out with them.

      Sincerely,

      Grant *******
