We were supposed to move into one of their rental property in January, however on December 28, my fiances father passed away. My first phone call was to the company stating that we will not driving to ** anymore and staying in *******. They apologized and agreed to termination of the lease. It has been over a month since that time and they just informed us this morning that we will not be getting refunded the last month rent we paid nor the pet deposit. We in total paid them $1624 (500 secuirty deposit, 250 pet deposit, and 874 last month rent). They are saying we will get only $487 back because they stated deductions for $887 for 1/2 month rent and a $250 marketing fee. I believe this to be taking advantage of us while we are across the country mourning the loss of my Father in Law. I believe the amount of the deposit should include last month rent since we never arrived at the location and the ************************************************* the apartment therefore nullifying the pet deposit.
