Jersey Pro movers quoted my move . Then we they got to my new location , They would not unload the truck until we paid them in cash , $1300 dollars . This put them way over their original estimate . Essentially extorted us .

      Business response

      10/11/2024

      Dear Mr. *********,

Thank you for sharing your concerns. We take all feedback seriously and want to address your experience in detail.

First, as per DOT regulations, the payment for your moving service must be completed before your items are unloaded. This policy is in place to protect both parties from potential misunderstandings or issues related to theft of service.

Regarding the final cost, while you were not present at the time of the move, your wife requested an additional $720 worth of packing services. This naturally increased the time it took for our team to pack the items and also added to the cost of packing supplies. When services or requests are added during the move, the original estimate is no longer applicable, as it does not reflect the updated services requested.

We want you to be satisfied with our service, and we’ve made multiple attempts to discuss the situation with you over the phone to clarify and resolve these concerns. Unfortunately, we have been unable to reach you directly.

Please feel free to contact us at your earliest convenience so that we can work toward a resolution that meets your expectations.

I hired Jersey Moving Pro, located at ******************************************** Ste ***********************************************. I moved back in November 2023 from ******, ** to *****, ** . When I moved the guy that was in charge noticed that the sofa bed was damaged and told me to put in a claim which I did through CSI which handles Jersey Moving Pro settlements, etc. CSI called me to inform me that Jersey Moving Pro will pay $120.00 for the damages of my sofa bed. It's been 4 months and I still have not received payment. I called CSI several time and they told me that the company was in the process of mailing the check as of Feb. 22nd, 2024 and still nothing yet.

Jersey Moving Pro damaged 90% of items we shipped with them. We are missing a jewelry box that was hidden in a box if clothes. The approximate value of the jewelry was $39,000.00. It has increased since the price of gold has gone up since the theft. Just a few things- destroyed antique mahogany painting frame, ***** in top of cherry buffet which is also missing a shelf. Glass in many picture and painting frames destroyed. Family art has damage. Even a container of costume jewelry is missing. Many expensive Christmas ornaments and antique ornaments smashed. Multiple frames scratched and much more. They messed up the day we were allowed in our new apartment. They wanted to deliver early and when we couldnt do that they held our property ****** for about $6,000 or we couldnt have it.

Hi *****, We are really surprised to hear that you are unhappy with your move since we have not heard from you since your delivery in June. I have reviewed all your paperwork and you even signed off that all items on your inventory were received. Please re- read the Valuation portion of our contract, which you signed

VALUATION: ********* carrier provides two valuation options: Limited liability and full replacement value (FVP). Both plans cover furniture and boxes packed/unpacked by carrier. We suggest you purchase third party insurance to protect your property. Please read carefully before making your selection. Subject to the minimum valuation of $0.60 per pound per article and in compliance with and subject to the provisions of 49 CFR Section 375.701(a), Carrier cannot control whether proper packing methods are used by shipper, therefore on boxes packed by the owner as well as pressed wood (particle board) furniture, fragile or brittle items such as glass, china, ornaments, etc.; liability is limited to $0.60 per pound per article. *******, or its representative, has the right to inspect and repair any alleged damage. Consumer shipper waives all claims against Jersey Moving Pro for any damage to the interior or exterior of any residence including, but not limited to walls, floors, ceilings, stairs, banisters, carpets, plumbing, doorways, driveways, walkways, landscaping, etc. In addition, customer agrees and is not permitted to move and we will not accept, transport, or store and have no liability whatsoever for firearms, jewelry, cash, bank notes, any financial instruments, hazardous materials, pets, plants, liquids or perishable items.

I will address each of your issues one by one
      1) You did pack all of your boxes, our crews are all full time employees and would not jeopardize their jobs nor do they have the time to rummage through all of your boxes to look for jewelry. Additionally, as it is stated in our contract we cannot be liable for Jewelry as it should not have been on the truck in the first place. If you have 39K worth of jewelry that should have stayed with you and not placed on a Semi trailer.

2)Per the Valuation..please contact our customer service department to put in a claim for any damages. You are covered for .60 per pound, per article.

3)And, finally, on a long distance move we are very clear with our customers about delivery windows.  We create a delivery window based on the information provided by the client.  Our clients give us the first available date they are able to receive their goods.  You gave us a date and when we contacted you that the items were ready for delivery you were not at the new home and would not be there for days.  As we have multiple moves on a truck and our customers expect their goods according to a schedule we had no choice but to put your items in storage so that our truck could stay on schedule. When items have to go into storage, the driver has to be paid more for unloading and offloading and we have to pay for the storage unit we have to place your items in. All of those costs have to be paid by you.
We make it very clear to our customers that they must be available during the delivery window (which is determined by customers availability)  in order to stay on a timely schedule.  It is unfortunate that you were not able to adhere to our instructions.

      Complaint: 20915009

I am rejecting this response because:

Nothing in the boxes I packed had anything in them except the ornaments which Ill take responsibility for. There was $39,000.00 in jewelry missing from one box.  All broken items were packed by them. The reason it took me awhile to file this complaint is because I have been differing from disease of 2 internal organs that became acute on the drive from ** and landed me in the hospital in 3 states. Two weeks after arrival a neurological disorder started and I couldnt walk let alone accept the shipment. I finally opened the last box this week. I have been very ill but am getting better.
You ruined so many sentimental family heirlooms and other things. My great grandmothers earrings are gone, my first pair of gold earrings that I received at 5 years old. My grandmothers gold bangle. Yes, there was a lot of gold jewelry that I used everyday but all the memories that were stolen make the theft that much worse. I guess I have to figure out the weight of the jewelry?

      Regards,

      *************************

*****, I am sorry that you are missing your family heirlooms / memories. The fact of the matter is, we are NOT ALLOWED to transport jewelry PER OUR CONTRACT and *** regulations for this reason alone. The Jewelry should not have been on the truck in the ******************** is your responsibility to move, not ours. We conduct over ***** moves a year and would clearly not be in business if we acted in an illegal matter nor do we have the time to rummage through our customers boxes in hopes to find valuable items that we can walk away with.
