On May 27th, 2022 my father passed away. My father has an account with Wafd bank where he is the owner and his mother is listed on his account as representative payee for his social security payments. Days after my fathers death the bank allowed family members occumpanied by my dads mother to go in and withdraw $26,354.26 from his account that was not associated with any social security payments, the leftover ssi payments had already been withdrawn by social security. I made contact with the manager Valerie, I brought in the paperwork to prove that I was indeed the representative of his estate and she continued to withhold information about the transactions with me until I let her know that the money my dad had deposited came from a loan I was a co-signer on and I asked to speak to someone above her to find out where our money went. Finally she said they allowed family members to clean out my dads account because my grandmother was present and she was representative payee on the account. I had her confirm that rep payee was for ssi and confirm that ssi was already withdrawn, she agreed. I told her representative payee is only associated with ssi and it expires upon death and the account should have been frozen and left untouched until the Respresentative of the estate came forward to distribute the assets. Valerie feels as though she made the right decision to allow transactions on a deceased persons account and refuses to allow me to dispute or receive provisional credits while this situation is looked into. She also froze the account now that it’s at a zero balance & it has a legal representative to handle it. How ironic. My fathers house is at risk of foreclosure because Wafd bank allowed our money to be taken from the account in a way that breaches their policy. I don’t care what Valerie believes was right since she’s friends with my dads mother, I care that our money was illegally taken and Wafd bank should be held accountable.
