I wanted to purchase a VW ID.4 electric vehicle and get the $7,500 Federal tax rebate. I went to Garcia Volkswagen in Santa Fe, New Mexico, on 4/22/23 to buy the car. The car that was offered to me was a 2022 built in Germany, so it wasn't eligible for the tax rebate. I was told I could get $7,500 off the car if I leased it, and that I could convert it to a loan after 6 months. I'm 73 years old. I've never leased a car in my life. I don't understand car leases, and I told all that to the salesman, Sergio Heredia. Sergio told me that I had to make lease payments for 6 months, then I could buy the car. Sergio gave me $5,050 trade-in value for my car, undervalued I thought for a 2007 Porsche Boxster with less than 80,000 miles. I also paid a $12,000 downpayment. They told me they would also give me an additional $550 discount off the MSRP. I believed that after 6 months of payments, I would owe the balance: MSRP - ($7,500 + $5,050 + $12,000 + $550) = MSRP - ($25,100), which I thought would be in the range of $25,000. Yesterday, my wife and I were talking about the purchase, and I realized that I had been misled. I couldn't buy the car after 6 months for $25,000. It would be a lot more. I was lied to. It isn't credible that I would pay so much up front and get no value for it. I called the finance officer for Garcia Volkswagen, ****** (I don't know his last name), and told him this today (5/10/23). He said I could buy for the credits I paid (trade-in + downpayment = $5,050 + $12,000) and the $550 discount, but without the $7,500 rebate. He told me this would leave me a balance due between $31,000 and $32,000. I know there will charges for the window tinting and protective coating on the front of the vehicle, and tax, title, and license, but I don't want to see any penalties or bogus charges. They took advantage of an old man who tends to believe that people deal honestly and fairly.Business response
