1/14/2023 Exterior Innovation's owner gave us proposal, which we did not sign, but thought sounded good for job of installing metal roof. Down payment of $13,300, a balance of $5,200, for job totaling $18,500. No formal start or completion date was set. Work started week of June 5 and finished 7/12 at which time we were presented with an invoice for extra and exhorbitant fees we had no prior knowledge of, totaling $9,500 on top of the agreed upon $5,200. We refused to pay and were threatened with a law suit and lien against home. Part of extra cost was for purlins, aka wood furring strips, which are a standard part of installing a metal roof over an existing shingle roof. We assumed they were included, but found there was no intention of using them. Screwing metal panels to roof minus purlins caused dents at every screw (told this was 'read through' not dents) stopped the work, demanded purlins and the troubles began. A vent cover was removed and we were told it wasn't attached to anything-it went to my stove- and its removal caused asphalt grit to fall onto stove. This was pointed out and it was repaired at the same time as purlins were added, but this should not have happened in first place. some of the panels are missing screws, allowing for water to get under metal. A leak from a vent pipe in rear of house necessitated replacement of exhaust fixture and painting of ceiling stain. No plywood under metal where attic fan removed. 7/4 an overhanging and unattached ridge cap over front porch blew off. Repeated requests for proof of insurance have not been granted. Outside faucet for hose left on when crew was washing house. Hose blew, water continued to run until well dry and pump sucked sand and sediment through whole house. Luckily well settled down and lines able to clear. Fearful of damage to pump, again requested insurance info. Implication was made that we did something shady, but hose was replacedInitial Complaint

I gave a deposit of $8000.00 on May 4,2023. I cancelled the job because my friend had the same contractor doing his metal roof and it was terrible workmanship. He agreed to give me the deposit back but has not as of this date (July 10,2023). I am 81 years old and need this deposit to hire a reliable roofer. I have a copy of my check(both sides) and the job estimate sheet on which he acknowledged receiving my down payment check.
