Hello - I am seeking help dealing with a contractor who hasn't completed the project in my house and has literally disappeared now. My house was badly damaged in hurricane *** (Sep 1, 2021) and I had entrusted this contractor with fixing my basement as well as other repair work on the top floors. The total cost was $40,750 and I mistakenly gave him $37,750 after he kept asking for more and more advance. It's been 5 months since my first payment to him in Sept, 2021, and neither he nor his workers have showed up at my place since Dec 7, 2021. The basement remains unfinished and it's unlivable. I recently asked another contractor to provide his quote, and he quoted me an amount of $17, 066. I do not have the money to pay him an advance, so I am seeking your help in negotiating a refund from the previous contractor.
