I am responding to the Complaint of *********************, Complaint ID No. ********. I represent T.J. Maxx ( TJX Companies ) in civil cases involving retail theft. On or about October 12, 2023, *************** employment as store associate with T.J. **** was terminated as a result of alleged merchandise theft. My 14 yr old daughter got a citation for shoplifting in ********. We got paperwork and a date from the officer to attend a court date in August. The officer didn't mention anything about getting a letter- just to appear in court. I received a letter from ******* *************** today saying that he represents the business she was accused of stealing from. (** ******) The letter is pretty explicitly saying we need to pay his law office $250 to satisfy the civil claim.I'd like to know if this is legit or ******** because it looks like ******** to me. Please let me know how to proceed.Business response

I am responding to Complaint #********, Complaint of *******************************, mother of *************************************. I represent **** ****** in cases involving retail theft (shoplifting) by customers and employee theft. On June 8, 2022, ************************* was apprehended by store security because she left the store without paying for Sephora lip gloss and gimme brow, items worth $48.00 and concealed in her purse. As a result of her shoplifting the merchandise, our client has a statutory civil claim under ******** law, in the amount of $250.00 as a civil penalty, in addition to the pending criminal charges. ************************* statutory civil claim is not a fake claim or scam.
