Today, November 2nd, 2024, a man in a yellow and orange construction safety jacket knocked on my door at 3:30pm. He told me that because I had not responded to a letter I received in the mail designating a preferred electricity supplier, he was required to stop by my residence and enroll me in a different supplier than my current one, ***. I responded by telling him I must have missed it by accident. He then asked to see my *** account and information and told me that two of the monthly charges would be reduced significantly if I signed up for Alpha Gas and Electric, which was also written on a sheet of paper with handwriting as simply Alpha Energy in addition to other information.He called a number and instructed me to say yes to all of the questions. I did so, and when prompted for my email I gave it to him. After the call, the man who knocked on my door informed me that there was no cancellation fee, that I could cancel at any time, that after 12 months my highest bill would be refunded, and that the account would simply cancel on its own along with my electric bill once I change addresses / have the *** account for my current residence *********** the time he left, I felt nervous that I had been scammed. After looking up the company, numerous complaints popped up in the search results. I do not want an account with ******************** and I do not want to change my energy supplier from ***. The phone call was recorded, so I am nervous they will use my agreements with their terms against me should I try and call to cancel. Another person who has attempted to cancel with the company was unable to reach them, so Im nervous I wont cancel in time before any scam fees incur. The man was seemingly honest and so I felt at ease, but I was caught so off guard by the encounter that I believed everything I was told. I would like to have my affiliation of mind with Alpha Gas and Electric terminated and if possible for them to get rid of my info.Business response

The account enrollment was pending and we have terminated the enrollment so the customer has never been enrolled with **********************. We have emailed him to let him know that he is not enrolled. An internal investigation is being set up to look into the activities alleged by the complainant.

August 6th 2024,Two months ago a woman knocked on my door and forced herself in on my couch. She was very manipulative and I did not understand what she was saying. She told me by signing up, my bill electricity bill will decrease. Thats all I understood. I did not know that two months after, my bill would increase double its usual amount. I would like these charges to be removed from my account as I have not agreed to them. I do not even know what these charges are for. This is extremely unprofessional and unfair to go to peoples homes and take advantage of them and take their money for unknown reasons. Please return my money and de-enroll me with any charges.Initial Complaint

On April 15, 2024, a man knocked on my door and said that he is with the building management and that they're in charge of electricity. He said that I was wrongly overcharged and that he was there to fix it. He requested to see my bill to confirm. He then proceeded to say that needed to switch to a green energy. When he sensed that I was a bit reticent, he said that I will be required by *** law to switch by ******************************************************************************************************************************************** addition I would save on my electricity bills. I asked him who he was with, and he said PowerYourWay, and hastily pointed to my bill to show it to me. I looked at the bill and saw the name. So I further eased up. After manipulating me by falsely claiming that he is with the building management, and that I was required by law to switched in a few months and lied about who is working with, I was convinced. then he said that I need to speak someone on the phone to confirm a few things and told me to just answer Yes to every questions expect for one so I can get it done quick. As I was a talking to this person on the phone I started to notice that the name of the company is different than what the man has told me. so I asked him right after the phone call to say the name of the company he is with. Now he says Alpha Gas Electricity after I signed up now I was suspicious again. I immediately went online to verify. And found countless previous victims of the **** and warning. So I tried to call the number I was giving but it doesn't work. It doesn't ring or go to voicemail and says busy. I went out speak to the man and he said there is nothing he can and that I need to call the next day. I have tried over 100 times. so there is no way of contacting them and cancelling. These people have scammed me into signing up. I would like for them to cancel immediately. I DO NOT want to be part of it.Customer response

To whom it may concern,I believe I was subject to nefarious business practices tonight around 7:45 PM, March 19, 2024. I received an aggressive knock on my door and when I opened, the man said he was with the electric company and needed to verify my electric bill. I thought he was an official with AES and needed information to collect data or make a repair so I showed him my bill. He then proceeded to **** me off onto his trainee who within minutes was having me sign an agreement with Alpha Gas and Electric to switch my supplier. It felt incredibly shady and I felt manipulated and lied to and ill used. And upon reviewing the contract that was sent, it turns out that it is a total lie that there are no cancellation fees at any time. I have within three days to cancel without being charged.I do not want my bill to change, I do not want Alpha Gas and Electric to be my supplier, I want to cancel my account with them. A representative from alpha gas and electric showed up at my door claiming to be connected to ConEd and hastily had me sign up for a new contract with them guaranteeing lowered energy costs. The representative had me complete a verification phone call on his phone where he talked through the questions that were being asked and urged me to only provide yes answers. Everything happened very quickly. Then after the representative left, I looked up the company and realized that this was a solicitation tactic to push me into getting a new contract. I do not want to be enrolled in a contract with Alpha. I do not want any changes made to my energy bill.Business response

There has not been any flow with Alpha so no charges will be incurred by the customer.

A salesperson showed up at our door on November 9, 2023 and told us he would be saving us money on our utility bills and signed us up for this service without providing adequate information. We subsequently discovered that this service does not necessarily save money, in fact it can be more costly. We were especially deterred by the numerous complaints filed against this company. We would like to cancel our request for service as soon as possible.Business response

To whom it may concern,
Customer Care Representative spoke with customer the day after he signed up and he said he changed his mind and wanted to withdraw his enrollment. Representative promptly withdrew his pending enrollment and he never received any supply from Alpha. Customer is not, and has never ended up being, a customer of **********************.
As an aside, ********************************* is no longer with Alpha and I have assumed his role. Please update your system to make that change. My contact information is below.

Today I had someone knock at my door who is related to alpha gas and electricity. I was fooled into these services and I am now seeing reviews for this company and would now like to see how to cancel this service and prevent my account from seeing fraudulent charges or a spike in the bill. My complaint is against two entities: ALPHA GAS AND ELECTRIC, LLC (herein after referred to as ALPHA, located at **************************************************. Account # *******, phone # ************) and NATIONAL GRID because of fraudulent information and authorization allegedly given by me to have ALPHA as my gas supplier. I never gave authorization to ALPHA to be my gas supplier. NATIONAL GRID never informed me of this alleged change to this supplier. It appears that this change transpired on or about January 31, 2020. COVID-19 came, and everything was shut down. After perusing our bills, my spouse, Yonon ****** who is the person that handles the accounts of both of our homes started to notice the monthly bills for gas escalating in a disturbing manner. He reached out to NATIONAL GRID, and was unable to get answers to his questions, they couldn't even tell him the name of our gas supplier. On April 28, 2022, he cancelled the alleged gas services being rendered by ALPHA without our authorization. Today, after research my spouse called ALPHA and explained the situation and they were not helpful at all, my spouse requested a sign authorization of who authorized them to be our gas supplier, yet they told him that they did not have such a paper. National Grid is passing the bucket to ALPHA and at this point I feel that I am not getting anywhere with this and ask for your assistance in this matter. My account # with NATIONAL GRID IS ***********. The address in question is: **********************************************************. I am seeking for a refund for all the time that they were charging me a lot of money for the gas services without my authorization. NATIONAL GRID for not letting me know what was going on. Two men entered my apartment building and rang my doorbell at 8:30 PM at night, insisting that they were from Con ******* Never at any point did the representative, ****** state that he was from Alpha Gas and Electric. Red Flag # 1. He pointed out that I was being overcharged on my gas and electric bills for ESCO costs, a total of maybe $9 or 10 per ****. He insisted on seeing both of my bills and taking down my account numbers. Red Flag # 2. He called and had me speak to a woman on the phone who insisted I was only allowed to say respond with a yes or no to her questions. Red Flag # 3. The entire time, ***** was nodding along to encourage me to say yes to her line of questioning. Let it be known that I did not sign anything. He spoke so fast that I barely had time to process what he was telling me. Before I knew it, he had signed me up for an energy supplier I knew literally nothing about. This is deliberate fraudulent misrepresentation. I want my account cancelled and reverted back to my original supplier immediately. This kind of aggressive door-to-door sales will be really detrimental to vulnerable or confused elderly people. Shameful.Business response

This company switched my electricity provider to themselves without ever speaking to me let alone receiving any authorization to do so. Their charge per kWh is twice what **** was charging me. I would like a refund for the difference in cost since the time they fraudulently switched my service to their company.Business response

We tried attempted to contact the customer multiple times and the customer did not respond to our requests. The customers accounts have been cancelled.
