I had a surgery in December of 2020 at Adirondack Medical Center. I had a subsequent bill from charges that were not covered by my insurance company. I contacted Adirondack Medical Center regarding the bill and setup a contract to make a $63 payment each month. Beginning in 2021 to current i have paid all my payments to uphold the contract. On 2-14-2022 i received a letter/bill from a debt collector stating that Adirondack Medical Center had sent my account to collections for non-payment in regards to my procedure on December 2020. Adirondack Medical Center did not contact me nor did they send me any statements that clearly showed i had a balance on another account that was related to the surgery that i have paid each month under the contract they had me sign and return. If they would have called me and stated i had another account with an outstanding balance i would have gladly added it to my current contract and paid it on time each month as i have since the procedure in late 2020. Instead they decided to send this other account to collections when i am in good standing with making payments with them, this should have never happened had they contacted me and clearly sent or stated that i had an outstanding balance on an account that differed from my contracted account. When i contacted AMC about the collections bill i was directed to Pam in billing who did not understand the error AMC has made and did not offer any assistance in the matter. I would like the collections removed and remaining balance added to my current contract, AFTER i receive a call from someone at AMC stating this and a copy of the new contract sent to me for review. Thank you for your consideration.Business response

Per our electronic records, patient should have received 3 statements from Adirondack Health regarding the balance on the account in question: 6/25/21, 7/26/21 and 9/1/21. Balances are not automatically added to a contract account without the express verbal consent of the patient as the amount could impact the monthly balance owed. Patient made a $63.00 payment on the account on 10/23/21 and then no other payments on this account and we did not receive any communication from the patient that he would like this balance combines with his contract account. Phone call attempted on 12/6/21 with no return call. Per our policy, this account met the criteria for sending to bad debt. The account has since been removed from the agency and added to his contract account with Adirondack Health.
