Shame on you Adams Heating & Cooling - Quality work but at what cost? The service technician from Adams Heating & Cooling diagnosed that two of my Amana PT air conditioning units had faulty circuit boards. Dave, the technician, was very professional and knowledgeable. He left saying someone would get back to me with the repair cost. A week later the service manager called and said the repair cost would be $700 per unit ($1,400 total) which included parts and labor. At this excessive price I did some research and found the replacement circuit boards (made by Amana) cost $120 each. A transformer which Adams suggested replacing was not needed. I ordered the boards and replaced them myself in a half hour (using a screwdriver and simple directions provided). Both units have been working fine since 7/13. Assuming Adams could get the Amana circuit boards for the same price I paid, Adams is charging over $1,100 for a half hour of labor. I contacted the general manager about this offensive repair cost and he said someone would get back to me; that was over a week ago. Shame on you Adams! Quality work does not necessarily mean integrity!Adams Heating & Cooling Co, Inc. Response

*******, We are sorry you are not happy with the way this transaction went but we were operating off information given to us by the manufacturer. We did not and do not install this brand equipment, so our procedure is always to call the manufacture tech support line. Unfortunately, there was a lapse in the response time of the manufacturer in getting back to us. At which they walked us through some of the diagnostic that we did and gave us a part number for a “kit”, because according to the manufacturer, Amana, they do not sell that board as a singular item, only as a kit. So in addition to the extra pieces in the parts kit, there was also the cost to overnight them in from Texas. When estimating labor on replacing a control board, transformer, etc., we cannot plan and budget that it will only take 30min for 2 separate units. So, when we factor a price, we must factor cost of the goods, the Next Day Air to promptly get the part, travel, labor, tax, mark up, etc. There are plenty of other factors we incur as an operating profitable business that cannot compete with the DIY homeowner with no overhead. Thus is how we determined our repair cost. We are glad you found an alternative option, but our policy remains to follow the recommendations of the manufacturer’s tech support. Mind you, from the moment you called, we also have time and effort involved researching the part and taking the time to call Amana, who build the unit, factory tech support. To which, we did supply you with the part/kit number that your purchased thru the internet and/or third party supplier that you decided to repair yourself. Thank youReview from Robert L.

Adams Heating and Cooling misled me to believe that all costs would be covered under warranty and that I would be reimbursed in full. Jan 2022- I had no heat in bathroom and bedroom. Service men come to house and stated I need a new part on a brand new furnace. I submitted the warranty that state all parts AND labor are covered. Several Emails asking for clarification of costs. These emails go answered. Finally it is explained to me that "once we submit the part and get reimbursed then we will reimburse you" . I paid upfront. At no point was it explained that I would need pay for labor. I asked to schedule repair. No response. Feb 2022- Scheduled Repair...two weeks later with no heat. Feb 2022- Repair made. Service men were polite, professional, and timely. Jun 2022- Email sent asking when I can expect full reimbursement July 2022- Another email asking for reimbursement July 2022- Received check for less than 1/6 of total costs. July 2022-Sent email to Abel asking for explanation. No response. July 2022-Called Spoke with Amber. She will look into it. No call back August 2022-Called Spoke with Amber. Waiting to hear from Joe. No call back. August 2022-Called Spoke with Tanya. August 2022- Tanya called back to inform me Joe the owner would call me. No one ever called. August 2022- Received another check. Again for 1/6 total cost. No explanation. August 2022-Called Spoke with Amber. She stated Joe would call. No one ever called. August 2022- Was forced to go to office. Met with Joe and Abel. I explained the situation and showed him the warranty and emails. Joe said I should take it up with the manufacturer and that they don't cover labor. I showed him how Adams mislead me. He suggested I get an attorney. Adams Heating and Cooling made deceived and doesn't have the integrity to fix it. Joe cowardly avoided me until I showed up at his office. They took advantage of me during the winter with no heat. Customer service sucks! AVOID THIS COMPANY!!!Adams Heating & Cooling Co, Inc. Response

We did not install this equipment and do not warranty somebody else's work. Mr. ****** called into our office early January as stated to which we set him up for a Diagnostic to see what the issue was causing this zone to have no heat..there was heat in the rest of the house. Mind you…we DID NOT INSTALL THIS NEW FURNACE that was installed a few months earlier and his installing contractor was not responding or could not get there. We explained there was a diagnostic fee to which he did pay for the 01/11/22 call at which time it was found a part on the previously mentioned installation from another company, was faulty. Once the part was available from the vendor, we proceeded to schedule with Mr. ****** on February 3, 2022. Before which, the discussion/email was that we would charge him a fee of $560 plus tax plus a standard fee of $50 to process the warranty for the part we did not originally install. He was told “Once we submit the part and get reimbursed, then we will reimburse you at our cost”. We submitted the part for warranty, and due to delays in staffing with vendor and manufacturer and everywhere you see, there was a delay in getting a credit for the part…unfortunately, that is out of our control. We finally received a credit from the vendor on 06/27/22 and shortly after issued a refund at the cost of the part on 07/11/22 in the amount of $124.31 which was stated…’at our cost’. On 07/20/22, Mr. ****** emailed our Service Manager who he has been working with that he was expecting a full refund. We are not in the business, nor is anyone, to warranty someone else’s work. Mr. Lankau claims we ‘never told him the labor wouldn’t be refunded’, but we never told him it would, and have no idea why anyone would think that. Again, we are not the original installing contractor, and were trying to assist him when the installing contractor was not taking care of their own warranty. Any claims on labor should be taken up between Mr. Lankau and that contractor. At this point, it was brought to my attention and, as a company decided as a courtesy, to refund half the agreed upon cost of $560…Less the amount already refunded, even though in email it was stated “Once we submit the part and get reimbursed, then we will reimburse you at our cost” The cost was originally reimbursed in the $124.31 payment, and he was mailed a second check for $178.09 with a copy of the breakdown. ($560.00 plus tax, $44.80…total, $604.80. Half is $302.40 less already refunded $124.31…issued payment of $178.09) I don’t know of any company that would warranty somebody else’s labor and cannot understand why Mr. ****** would even think that. It is unfortunate that he was expecting that and mis-understood, but we stated the part would be refunded at our cost once we received credit…to which we did, and then some. As to his statement of ‘no response’, each email was responded to in a timely manor. the delay in the credit from manufacturer is out of our control. Unfortunately, after receiving the second check, he called in on Monday, 08/15/22 when I was in a meeting as I was most the morning Tuesday, and was still when he showed up, and he showed up at my office before I could call back.Customer Response

Excuses, excuses.... Let's be clear, I'm not asking for a refund, I'm asking for re-imbursement as I was promised by the service guys at my house, and by Abel (more like un-Abel) the service manager. The warranty states "All parts and labor to complete repairs". You should have submitted paper work to the manufacturer to be compensated for labor but instead you mislead me when I had no heat. It's one thing to have a company policy to charge for labor and its a WHOLE OTHER thing to never let your client know. You claim you offered a "courtesy refund on the agreed upon price", yet no one called or emailed to explain this...the check just arrived in the mail with no clarity, likely because you know you are wrong. Furthermore, THERE WAS NO AGREEMENT. I never signed a contract nor a service agreement. When asked for a breakdown in pricing I was denied stating its a flat fee. It is your duty to ensure your clients understand pricing upfront. A mistake was made on your part and you simply have no integrity to fix it. I stand by my statement that emails were not responded to nor did anyone call me back except once. This could have been avoided with better communication. "Mr. ****** claims we ‘never told him the labor wouldn’t be refunded’, but we never told him it would" This pretty much sums it up. You chose not to explain it, and allowed me to think so. I repeat.....AVOID THIS COMPANY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Adams Heating and Cooling Co, Inc is nefarious an unprofessional.
