I hired Wm. C. Rott to redo my roof in December 2022. As per their contract they were to have it completed by April 14, 2023. As of today April 26,2023 they have not even scheduled a date or submitted the required information to my insurance company. I asked JAmes to send the information to me twice for me to submitt to my insurance and as of today still have not received it. I asked them to refund my deposit and was deniedBusiness response

To whom it may concern, We have been in contact with *****, and have been in pursuit of helping her dealing with her insurance company. At this point she is no longer asking for her job to be canceled or down payment returned. She is looking to have us do the job, assuming things can be worked out regarding the insurance company. I signed a contract to have a new roof membrane installed on one section of my roof by Wm.C.Rott & Son. Planned for spring of 2023 when weather permitted. Rott & Son called me December 2022 to say there was going to be a week of unseasonably warm weather. January- 2nd to Jan 6, 2023 and they would like to put my new roof on. I was very surprised and said to them no way you can put a roof on a house in the winter in Buffalo NY! I was told by Rott that with years of roofing experience they could do it in 4 days. They started my roof project the first week of January and stopped one day after removing my existing roof .. They said my roof had unexpected material and would need to charge me an additional $4,180.00. I felt pressure to agree as it was winter and my roof was exposed. They did not work on my house until Monday January 9th . By then the weather had changed to rain etc.. The nice weather of January 5, 6 & 7th were days they did not complete the job as promised. They did not work on the roof the next week due to weather. My house was covered in a tarp which blew off many times. We had to call Rott often to have it secured. January 19th my house experienced water damage in 5 rooms from the exposed roof.. Water leaked into the ceiling in living room , kitchen, hallway & office. Regardless of weather conditions and unexpected material on my roof the job could have been completed without extensive damage to my house. If the roof crew properly covered my roof and properly secured the tarp, checked on the cover often & during changing weather. If they were extremely careful and professional my house would not have been damaged. They said they could do it in 4 days, it took over 4 weeks, I would pay the full price if I had a completely successful roofing job. They guaranteed to keep my roof dry during the process and did not keep their word. They only offered a discount of $1,000.00 I have paid a $12,000 deposit and $20,619.00 for the roof.Business response

To whom it may concern,
We have received the complaint from ***** ***** and her request.
It is an accurate thing to say that during the progress of the job that we ended up having a leak. We did have things tarped off and sealed, but the wind and rain was of such severity that it got past what we had done. We got the job completed as quickly as possible after that (just under two weeks total, not four, Even with the additional work and the weather delays.) We agreed without question to pay for any remedial work necessary inside from the leak. We even offered an additional thousand dollars for the trouble experienced during the job past the needed repair cost.
We feel that this is fair, at least.
In progress there was a need for a change order because how things were built and that caused the delay in getting the work done, that ended up putting us in harms way of the storm that came.
We did, and do apologize to *****.
We also feel we have done the reasonable things to make things right.
If an insurance company had been involved, they wouldn’t have paid any more than fixing the damage.
We initially offered additional thousand dollars, and in order to come to a conclusion are offering an additional $762.00 leaving $2000 still due.
We do feel we did the honorable thing with paying for the remedial work along with the additional reductions offered.
Please let us know your thoughts on the matter, and if you feel we should take any other steps. Thank you for your consideration!

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID 19880987, and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.
In an effort to end this extremely offensive and aggressive request for money on a job not well done, I would be willing to pay an additional $1,000.00.
Only if they agree to stop harassing me for money.
