In the third week of December, I was solicited by Writers Digest University to sign up for one of their online writing workshops. Having subscribed to the magazine in the past and because they offered 10% off, I registered, paying with a credit card. Once I began the course and saw how unprofessional and badly designed their writing workshop website was, I requested a refund. They took out a small amount and refunded the rest. The problem I have with them is they sold my email address which also happens to be my ***** ID and so I can't change my email address. I was deluged with up to 20 spam/phishing attempts a day after Writer's Digest University refunded my money. I did a screen share with an ***** Advisor who looked at some of what I was getting and told me that not only was it spam, but it was a phishing attempt. I had to report these to phishing at Apple. Some of these now come to my junk folder, but in the very beginning, they were coming to my inbox. I am confident that it was AIM Media (Writer's Digest) who sold my email address as I don't sign up for anything on other websites and do all my online shopping with ******. Some of these emails were from someone calling themselves Everyday Writer trying to get me to buy their services. The sale of my email address has compromised my email account and taken up quite a bit of my time blocking the sender emails and reporting them as phishing to Apple. Some of the emails border on pornographic inviting me to get a product to improve my sexual performance.
