My senior dog developed a sudden lameness issue with one of his hind legs and had a goopy eye. He was dead lame; non-weight-bearing with spasms. There was no known trauma and it being a Sunday, our regular vet was closed. Because he was clearly in distress, we opted to bring him to Stark County Vet Clinic for evaluation. The vet came in and asked what was going on with my dog. I had already informed the front desk of the issues, completed their paperwork AND they had my dog in the back. I then asked for her opinion. She listed a number of things it could be and noted that he was walking just fine, that he needs to lose weight and I should follow-up with my regular vet for additional tests. Not helpful. No diagnostics, no blood panel. Nada. Just some anti-inflammatories and a story of how her dog lost weight and how well it's doing. I'm not sure if that was supposed to motivate me to do more, as her story came after I already told her that we struggle to induce weight-loss for him. He has Cushing's, he's old, and already on RX food (prescribed by his vet) because of a very sensitive stomach. The bonus to this horrible experience was when I asked about his eye. That seemed to annoy her because she referenced back to his leg being the issue and that she did not evaulate his eye. Here is the line she spoke that prompted me to write this review: "I have two dying dogs in the back". Which was quickly followed up with "I care about your dog". I was dumbfounded. My emergency was not her emergency. I'm sure my dog was walking on all four legs. It's called white-glove syndrome and I'm also sure he was experiencing an adrenaline dump. It was very dismissive, rude, and unprofessional. I would not recommend doing business with this establishment.Review from Caitlyn B

I wouldn’t even rate them a 1 star vet. I recently had to take my cat into the ER vet. It being 10:30 on a Sunday night we rushed my female cat here being the closest vet that could take her. When she arrived she had a temp of 104.3, with having 2 seizures before getting to the vet. Once we got there she had 2 more seizures & they suggested keeping her overnight after blood work and x-rays came back completely normal. I called 3 times during the next day with the receptionist being extremely disrespectful. They would give you a bare minimum update & be interrupted when trying to ask questions regarding my pet. I was told “we are doing all we can we, treatment is fluid & monitoring” mind you her temp is now at 106 after it originally dropped so really what are you monitoring. Finally at 1:30am on Tuesday morning, a vet finally would talk to me about treatment for my girl. Now about 3:30 Tuesday afternoon they suggest putting my sweet girl down. Unfortunately she was to far gone & it was the best decision for her. Checking over the bill the next day seeing what all was done for her, we realize a charge for $954 for a bottle of clindamycin. They overcharged $954 when it could have given me answer why my girl is now dead. Perfectly healthy cat, good blood work, no leukemia, aids, heart worms. We do believe the seizures made her brain dead but to what caused the fever to begin with, we will never know. $954 that they would have NEVER said a word about. Who approves these charges? My fault for not checking the bill earlier but shame on them. Now my sweet girl is gone & we have absolutely no reason why. If you want to save your pet, please take them elsewhere. This place doesn’t care about your pet.Review from Corey M

Horrible vet techs. Came in with a pup that had parvo. Was told there's a 50/50 chance for $4-5k to get her on fluids. Or to put her down. Unfortunately we couldn't afford the outrageous amount they quoted. So we put her down. Called to ask about when to expect to her remains back and was told it's a common cremation and they animals are all cremated at same time and nobody gets remains back. Why should of we paid around 400 to have our dog cremated if we weren't getting her back. Wouldn't allow anyone to be with her in her last moments. They just took her and the payment n basically told us to leave without telling us to leave. No options for the cremation process no policy paper just a receipt.Review from David M

I filed a complaint about this business on 10/25/2023 after our poodle Lady had a series of strokes and had to be euthanized. To make matters I had them cremate her and asked for the remains to be returned. A snafu happened and the remains were sent to a pet cemetary and not returned. Of the 4 staff members at Stark County Vet I interacted with 3 of the 4 were very attentive, helpful, and compassionate but one staff member was not and her bedside demeanor was very poor considering the circumstances. So I wrote a letter to the Owners of this business, asked for a refund for the cremation portion of the bill, and mentioned the poor service in detail of one of their staff. A few weeks later the Director of this hospital called me and we had a very frank discussion. He refunded the cremation portion of the bill, told me that particular staffer had been removed, and they have changed their internal protocols as it relates to handling cremation requests as a result of our experience. He was very nice, informative, helpful and basically agreed to right the situation. He is fairly new to this position despite being in the animal health industry and said they were making changes to their business to improve their service to Stark County. Needless to say I was impressed with him and their actions taken. As to the sign on the door saying the lobby was "not open to the public", he explained originally this was for Covid but recently they had to keep the sign up due to an outbreak of Parvo-Virus which is highly contagious and deadly to pets, particularly dogs so they prefer you call in, if you can, so they can take steps in case your pet is NOT vaccinated so the disease is not transmitted to other animals in their facility. This was not explained to me either the day I was there when I called in and was left on hold while our dog was in distress.Review from Wendy G

I have taken two of my three dogs there . They are amazing !! Yes you have to wait in car give info and they get you in . But they are an emergency center and they take the most critical first . I had to have surgery on my little **** and everyone was great ! They had to keep him a couple of days - they let me come in and visit him for hours . They even brought him out to me in a blanket with his I-V. Yes the cost is more than your vet -- but they have staffing 24 hrs a day and expensive equipment your vet doesn't have . They were extremely reasonable for the services.!!Review from Sherry C

With all the veterinary hospitals in stark county I would suggest going anywhere but here!!!!!!! While on vacation our cat sitter was worried about our cat not eating or drinking so she brought her to this clinic. The veterinarian had concerns that the cat (Tia) wouldn't make it. After talking it over with my daughter, and our friend Madison who was watching Tia. We had all agreed to take Tia home and let her pass in the comfort of her own home. But this clinic refused to release Tia back to her care giver and would not allow Madison to go back to the room to be with Tia. I talked to the vet on the phone and she insisted on euthanizing the cat? I trusted her and agreed. As soon I hung up the phone I regretted my decision and called back only to find out that they had already euthanize the cat. I understand pets don't live forever. I am ok with letting go when necessary. What I am not ok with is the way they treated this situation I felt like I was force to make a decision I was not comfortable with, found out later that they treated Madison rudely and had no compassion to the situation. Basically I don't trust this clinic. Why wouldn't they release the cat back to us? Why wouldn't they let anyone back in the room with her? Read the reviews ! I am not the only one with a bad experience. If you want to have a say in your pets health take them somewhere else! Please learn from my bad experience.Review from kelly S

Took my baby here as she was super ill and not herself! Definitely something seriously wrong with her. It was a weekend and our vet wasn’t opened but my dog was suffering and so miserable I needed her to be seen now. Made the mistake to take her here… NEVER WILL I EVER DO THAT AGAIN! Not even to just start I had to wait in my car for 30 mins for them to come get her, fine I get it understood. Now they come get her and take her in the be examined. After 1 hour of waiting in the car I get a call, said her vitals were good, temp was good, workup looked good besides some tenderness under her ribs where her pancreas would be. The vet told us he would recommend X-rays and bloodwork, we asked for price estimates so we knew we had enough to cover, JUST FOR THOSE 2 THINGS he said shy of $800 now it would be more with treatment or medication like I am sorry but in this world today who the **** has over $1000 just laying around. NO ONE. So we asked what he would recommend if we only did one, what would be best to find out what’s wrong with my baby. He said X-rays. Okay agreed. Called back 2 mins later cause my husband had this gut feeling we needed to do blood work over the X-rays. Talked to the doctor and told him that we wanted to do the blood work over X-rays. He talked us out by telling us why the X-rays were better since her vitals and all were great. Okay fine do the X-rays. Another hour later get a call X-rays are clear, only thing he seen is some swelling in her small intestines, prescribed Anti diarrhea (when she didn’t even have diarrhea) anti nausea, and pain meds. 2 days later, she couldn’t even lift her head off the ground or walk. I got her into our vet and did the blood work, our vet read her chart from the er vet visit and said she was running a fever. Bloodwork came back with diabetes, pancreatitis, and she was in keto acidosis. With her age and so far gone, it was too late. Had to put her down. NOW if this er would’ve did the bloodwork, we could’ve saved herReview from Aubrey S.

DO NOT and I mean DO NOT even consider taking your pet to Stark County Veterinary Emergency Clinic. I brought my dog and once here, they don’t allow you to come in. You have to call and get entered into their system, then wait. They will come out on their time, not on your emergency time. Because Covid ? Right, because not one single person had a mask on, not even when they came to the car. They finally took her in and I waited for 30 minutes for them to just examine her. I get a call, they say her exam was relatively normal but would recommend blood work and X-rays to assess further. The reason they call is to determine if you can afford to pay. For those two things, $775. I’m sobbing into the phone about how high the prices are, she comes back with “I can just bring her back out and you can take her to your own vet, I’m not forcing you to be here.” Stunned. Absolutely stunned that when I’m so vulnerable that I’m crying to some stranger on the phone who has my sick dog who says I’m going to have to pay upwards of a grand to examine and treat my dog, with no guarantees mind you, follows it up with “I don’t need you to chastise me. You know I’m here at 11:45 on a Saturday night.” Almost like she’s doing me a favor by being so generously suggestive to take my dog, WHO IS VOMITING BLOOD, not eating, peeing and being lethargic, home. And oh, also reminding me that she’s here, DOING HER ******* JOB, on a Saturday night. I opted for bloodwork to begin and go from there. I then asked that they bring Blossom back out as results take upwards of an hour, no need for her to sit in some strange place, without me, period, let alone an hour. I was told they needed to ask “permission.” Permission for MY dog to sit with ME when they won’t let me in the building. They told me they were very busy at the moment and someone would bring her out as soon as they were able (assistant was busy doing nothing). They never brought her out until I paid. Worst customer service ever.Review from Michelle T

This place is a joke! All they care about is making you wait, taking your money and not answering their phone. We called ahead to take our cat there on a weekend and was told it was a 1 hour wait time. We arrive and call to check in and we were then told it was a 4 hour wait time because the vet was going into emergency surgery. We waited in our car for 4 hours and they finally came out to tell us they could take our cat in but it would be another 4 hours or so before he could be seen because the vet was going into surgery. I said We were told the vet was going into surgery 4 hours ago. She stumbled on her words and said well the vet got held up. Our cat ended up having to spend 3 days there and having surgery. It was the worst 3 days trying to get ahold of these people. I spent a straight 3 hours trying to call them for an update and the phone rang busy the entire time. Once they did answer the phone the staff was rude and all they worried about was making sure they told you the cost of the bill so far and getting payment right then and there over the phone. They have no compassion for the pet owner and the trauma ourselves and our cat were going through. Not to mention the cost of the bill was over $3,600. Once our cat was ready to come home they told us to call before we got there to make sure he was ready. We called before we left for an hour drive there and ended up still waiting almost 2 hours for them to bring him out. They said in 10-14 days to bring him back to have his staples removed. We did so and they kept telling us they were to busy for that to call back tomorrow. Very unprofessional and just an all around horrible place! I will NEVER take another one of my pets there and I don't recommend anyone to go there! I wouldn't even give this place 1 star!Review from Jonathan V

Extremely unprofessional staff that obviously have no regard for the reputation of their employer and hold zero passion for helping animals in need. We were given a 2 to 3 hour time frame before they would see our dog (which is fine). After 4 hours of waiting, it took going inside and demanding that our dog be checked to see if he is critical, for them to finally come to the car to get him After another hour and half (5.5 hours total) we called for an update and were with obvious annoyance from the staff and told our dog hasn’t even been checked by the vet yet. Fed up with the unprofessionalism, we demanded our dog be brought to our car, and they threatened to call the POLICE because they, and I quote “didn’t like our attitude” When we said the wait time was excessive, a random vet tech jumped in and said “and you were told 5 hours” when in fact we were not. So 5.5 hours were spent without a single professional assessing our dog, and their excuse was that they had 1 dog in critical care and 1 dog that passed away. We were also told multiple times that our dog was listed as a “person injury” which is completely false and not what the receptionist was told. I strongly urge anyone to review the almost 300 reviews on ******, where you can find hundreds of other experiences that mirror ours. Mid-diagnosis, horrible professionalism, incorrect wait times being quoted, and flat out community wide extremely poor service.
