Payed half on 2/13/24 and the remaining on 4/17/23. I had to have them cam back out a number of times. To fix stuff and they fix it but the siding keep popping off of the house. The last time they came out the was supposed to replace the back and side of the house siding but just repaired it. Not to mention some spots dont have insulation under the siding. Some of the stuff that I was charged for that was not installed. I just like for the house to be completely redone or give them my money back so I can pay someone else to do it for the siding and cutters. Not to mention, I ripped off an awning due to them telling me that was the reason Water was getting behind the siding And its still doing it after the fact of being removed so I have to pay someone to install a new roof over my back porch.

Where to start? For starters, they charged me $7400 for a 1200 square foot ranch with nine windows. I didn't know any better in the beginning, but I have learned a lot through this process. The second issue is that the guy, Doug, ordered replacement windows instead of new construction windows, when he KNEW there was going to be no siding. More importantly, he says that "new construction windows are *****" Ask him. Third, since he knew that he would not be doing the siding, they installed the windows so that they are recessed over an inch in from the plywood on the inside of the house. For those of you who don't know, this created more work for the siding people and makes his job super easy on the inside. Forth, he framed in two of the windows with a 2x4 and left no room for the window to be finished on the inside. I sent pictures to the manufacturer, **** ******* ** ****** ******, and he said the windows were not installed correctly. He said they were not water-tight. I thought "check and mate!" The manufacturer said it, so let's see if Doug will listen now. He said that the manufacturer was in the warranty department and doesn't have a clue what he is talking about. I created a ******** page for others who have been screwed by this terrible company. It's called, "Columbus Windows and Siding Fails." Please join and share your horror stories so others do go through the same thing My main reason for this complaint is that the company should have installed new construction windows. The caulking WILL fail and there did not need to be caulking where it is most likely going to fail. Basically, the way the windows were installed causes a maintenance issue that would not have needed to be an issue with the proper window. I had to agree to whatever they wanted to get the windows at least installed, I paid them, and I am forced to finish the siding this weekend. I had to do both of these things because it has been pouring down rain lately and the house has been getting wet

We have attached the original contract to show the “full story.” Columbus Windows & Siding Company ordered and delivered 9 replacement windows, When we arrived at the job site for installation, the homeowner incorrectly removed 2 of the 9 windows, which required more work and materials by the installation crew to ensure correct installation. At the customer’s request, we placed Tyvek around the sealed windows.  used spray foam insulation to fill in any gaps, and then applied 100% silicone caulk around the windows to seal them. The Agreement was for “the customer to finish the outside.” and it clearly states (Replacement Windows)

Regarding the assessment by the manufacturer’s customer service representative, we doubt that he was provided with the agreement which indicates the exterior finish was to be completed by the customer. The representative’s comments were based on incomplete information.

We strive to make every customer happy and in this case, we performed more work than the original agreement. It is disappointing that this customer believes we fell short since we went above and beyond to help him with this project.

I do not accept their response. They sent a copy of a communication where I had to agree the work was done after they finished the outside. I had to agree to that because if I didn’t, the next time it rained it was going to cause large amounts of water damage. They had already fought me the entire time about the windows they chose, which is my largest complain and they didn’t even acknowledge it. New construction windows should have been used. They used replacement windows but did not use the nail fins that should be used when using a replacement window, causing me to have to maintain a line of caulk. More than that, when this caulk fails, water will go straight to the sheeting on the outside of the house because they did not make the windows opening water tight before installing the window.

The combination of incorrect window and inability to make the opening water tight is the reason I had to replace the windows on the first place. I did not want the same mistake to happen again.

We have sent documentation of the contract where it clealy states replacement windows are being installed. Not a new construction window.A new contruction has a nailing fin.  Mr. Topper is somehow mistaken. He was also given the brochure containing specifications and pictures of the window. With the extra work incurred from Mr. Topper tearing out the windows we more than fulfillied our contract. He then paid us the balance for the job.

He stated that I knew they would use replacement windows. When this job started I knew nothing about putting in windows; I was trusting that the company I hired would know what needed to be done. Later I learned that replacement windows should not have been used, but if they were, nail fins should have also been used. The person who told me that was the MANUFACTURE OF THE WINDOWS THAT WAS INSTALLED. The manufacturer said that they were installed incorrectly. Even the guy from Columbus Windows who installed the windows said that they should have used new construction windows.

The latest response from Columbus Windows and Siding also failed to mention the fact that the opening for the window was not water tight before the windows were installed, this insuring that when the caulking they put on the window ultimately fails. The water will rot the sheeting under the siding and cause the same issue that I was fixing in the beginning of this renovation.

Lastly, Columbus Windows and Siding said in the contract that they would “finish the windows on the inside.” What they did was push the window all the way flush with the inside drywall, making their job easier and the siding guy’s job much harder. That is not how the windows were before. That cause three issues: There is no longer a window sill, I cannot install blinds unless I install them on the drywall over the window, and my siding guy was going to charge me $2000 to install the flashing that was now needed to finish the outside of the window, where as before he wasn’t going to charge me anything. Columbus windows and siding did eventually finish the outside too, but that does not resolve the problem with the nail fin, and that problem makes the $7,400.00 completely pointless. I could have just left the windows that were already installed in there.
