If I could give AP&L negative one thousand stars, I would do that. I don’t know how they sleep at night charging the rate they charge. I realize that they are unregulated so short of moving, my only option is to deal with it. I wish that I had known how this company operated before I moved into my apartment complex. Just beware and ask the question before you move in. If the electric supplier is AP&L, look for another apartment. Most electric companies are charging between 6 and 7 cents per kilowatt hour right now. AP&L is currently charging 23 cents per kilowatt hour. My apartment complex signed a 91 year lease. I couldn’t be any more disappointed than I am. I have contacted PUCO as well as the attorney general and nobody can do anything because the company is unregulated. Shame on them for stealing from the American public.Review from chantel s

I live by myself and my latest bill is $350. Absolutely ridiculous and completely inaccurate. I feel like I’m being robbed and something needs to be done. It’s not just me either. They also say they don’t own the equipment at the apartment so they refuse to come out to look at the meters to make sure we are being charged accordingly. How can you provide electric but not own the meter and refuse to ensure you are charging accurately?Review from Eli G

We have been receiving an insanely high electric bill for the last two months which is giving us a lot of concern. The electric company is APL. Our November bill was $370 (usage 1727 kwh) and we were out of the country for the first two weeks of November, nothing was turned on or connected. We called the power Utility company to complain, off course they weren't helpful. The ladies i had talked to on the phone we’re pretty much useless and clearly didn’t know what she was talking about. we keep our heat at 68 degrees every day, we use our washer and dryer once a week, we use our dish washer once a week. We don't keep light on all over the apartment. We don’t have unnecessary things plugged into the wall. We don't have anything in the apartment drawing excessive power usage (this was confirmed by our electric maintenance team at the apartment). Our bill for December recently arrived and our bill is $490 with a usage of 2049 kwh. This is absolutely insane to receive such a high bill and high usage amount for a 1111 sqft apartment with standard all electric appliances (energy efficiency). Something unethical is going on and it isn't right. They are unethically billing people outrages sumes of money for electric. APL are thieves and a scam. Run from any apartment that uses APL. It’s unfortunate that Puco is just as useless as APL for allowing this foolishness to take place in the state on Ohio. What a joke.Review from Ufuoma K

My experience, as detailed below, suggests a serious discrepancy in billing practices that may affect numerous consumers. I am a resident of a two-bedroom apartment, where I have lived for approximately one month. For two weeks within this period, I was out of town, visiting Atlanta and Houston. During this absence, the use of electrical appliances and heating in my apartment was negligible. Despite the above circumstances, I was astounded to receive an electricity bill from APL stating that I had consumed 2133 kWh, leading to a charge of $474.76. This consumption level is highly implausible, given my limited presence in the apartment and the minimal usage of electrical appliances. Prior Attempts at Resolution: Upon receiving this unexpectedly high bill, I contacted APL’s customer service for clarification. Disappointingly, the response was inadequate, with the representative simply reiterating the billed amount and showing a lack of willingness to investigate the potential for a billing error. Further research into this issue revealed that several other APL customers have encountered similar overbilling scenarios. Alarmingly, in one instance, a customer reported a bill amount almost identical to mine, indicating a possible systemic issue within APL's billing processes. In light of these findings, I have filed a complaint requesting the Ohio Public Utility Commission's assistance in conducting a thorough investigation into this case and APL's broader billing practices. It is critical to determine whether these are isolated incidents or indicative of a larger, systemic problem.Review from Jak M

They deserve no stars. I have the same complaints as everyone else. Do not ever move into an apartment that they are the utility provider for. They have overly inflated prices that are astounding. It doesn't matter how much square footage you have or even if you barely have things plugged in, don't use heat or air you will be charged an astronomical price that should be illegal. They need to be regulated. Stay away from them. Do not live anywhere that they are a provider even if your rent is reasonable. By the time you factor in the electric - your rent has skyrocketed another $300 a month. As other reviwers stated their rates are absolutely ridiculous and they should be shut down.Review from Christopher L

My bill for November is 2793 kw/h @ 19 cent a kw or $530. My apartment is 685 sq ft and I never turn on the heat. This is absolutely criminal. My electronics are on surge strips which are shut off when I leave the house and I use a space heater when the cold is absolutely unbearable. I don't have $530 to fork out for 1 month. I will be forced to endure the dark with my dog because of APL. I'm gonna go to every news station in cbus to air this company out. Absolutely rotten criminals!Review from Andrew T

I am an AEP energy employee who is stuck on APL's rates due to an agreement within an apartment building. The current rate in my zip code is 11 cents per KWH, while APL is charging me 20.7 cens per KWH. To also put that in persepctive, my company AEP Energy, is only charging around 8 cents per KWH. I am also in a perdictament with them where I am being charged for energy usuage before I even took legal ownership of the property. They do not appear to be on apples to apples/ energy choice website so there's no doubt they are bad actors. I also forgot the $30 charge to "set up" an account with them. Something AEP Energy nor the base utility does in the State of Ohio.Review from Samantha H

My apartment complex uses this company unfortunately so I have no other choice than to voice my concern to them. They charge $.2023 per kWh used. The industry average for residential usage is $.1585. So how does my 800 square foot apartment have a $202 electric bill? I used roughly 900 kWh last month which is right around $183 for their absurd price point but my apartment tacks on an additional amount every single month for “common usage.” Why am I paying so the hallways have light is beyond me but here I am, paying $200 almost every single month for a 800 square foot apartment. Don’t rent an apartment that uses this company.
