I live in Houston Tx and get a call from my sister who lives alone in Dayton Oh that one of the AC units was not functioning and she called Butler Heating & Airconditioning who originally installed the unit 8 years ago. Having retired from the Military with an air-conditioning certification I still know a bit about how they work. I asked my sister to facetime with me and let me observe the unit. After going outside the condenser fan was spinning and compressor was running but cool air was coming out of the condenser. Butler Heating and Airconditioning (BHA) technician was very polite however, he replaced the start-up capacitor and the TXV value that were both under warranty. It was obvious to me that he was replacing warranty parts just to run up $250 and hour cost. After replacing those parts, the technician decided to replace the compressor. At that time, my wife and I packed up and drove 20 straight hours to Dayton, Oh on Sunday 6/21/24 before the technician showed up on Tuesday with the compressor. I performed an electrical verification of the entire system and check the resistance of the existing compressor windings, and they were balls on based on the industry specifications. BHA would not provide an itemized list of services being provided, when asked he stated, “We don’t do that”. He quoted $1893.00 as a starting place and never indicated what the actual issue was based on the amount quoted. I called the manager at butler and discussed my dissatisfaction with their service and my sister was not going to pay them a dime for the replacement of warranty parts at $250 an hour and not fix the unit and BHA and I agreed to part ways. Totally unsatisfactory and the reason many companies like BHA get a bad reputation for taking advantage of single or divorced women with children. We got the job done for less than $600, most of the cost was freon. I had more to write but couldn't get it all in. Horrible Company. Strongly recommend NOT using this company.Butler Heating and Air Conditioning Response

Teresa has been a great customer for over 20 years. Just like any other customer, she's never been taken advantage of. It is unfortunate that Teresa's compressor failed on an 8 year old air conditioner. Anything could have caused that, even a power outage. Because we register the equipment we install with the manufacturer, the cost of the TXV and compressor were covered under warranty. Refrigerant, unfortunately, is not covered by any manufacturer warranty, and refrigerant is not cheap. We use new refrigerant on a new compressor, and never reuse the old refrigerant to save cost. The old refrigerant is burnt, just like the compressor, and compromised. It's also typical that residual refrigerant is left in the coil which is why we clean the refrigerant system with dry nitrogen and install a suction drier for a year. We also replace the filter drier so that anything in the refrigerant system that could be compromised is replaced. These additional steps do add cost, but any trained professional with HVAC industry experience will confirm that this is the RIGHT way to perform a compressor replacement. We've had a great reputation for 75 years because we do things the right way. Our reputation has never been the cheap company that cuts corners to save money. We feel good about that.Review from J. Had workmanship issues on startup, cardboard left in resistance coils resulting in a fire, smoke; electrical knock out plugs in fan squirrel cage resulting in a lot of noise, scaring of cage, excessive discharge of freon during testing mode connections. Biggest concern is poor soldering of copper lines resulting in small leaks over time resulting in large cost of freon replacement and proper brazing required. This is a time bomb that won't be realized until later non warranty periods. Bypass this group.Butler Heating and Air Conditioning Response

We installed a system for Mr. H****** in 2017. We provided maintenance for that system for 2.5 years. During this time, there were no issues with the system's operation. Mr. H****** decided to work with a different service provider over the past 4+ years. Mr. H****** asked us to return in June of 2024, 7 years after the installation, to fix some issues that were most likely caused by the other provider's work. We would have been happy to do so, but Mr. H****** wanted it done for free. We declined to do the work for free, and then received this review.Customer Response

Note only Buther did installation and the preventive maintenance per the original order. Only repairs made outside of installation issues was the last group that repaired the four poorly soldered copper lines. Have photos showing the concerns being raised. Appears from our service group that all four lines were soldered and not brazed per Lennox brazing specs. The heart burn was the soldered lines slowly developed fatigue resulting is slow leaks that over time reduced the efficiency and finally failed. I find it odd that four different copper lines had same leaks. I was expecting someone from Butler would want to come out to see these connections and discus, which didn't happen, as they expected to be paid. The four lines are repaired and pleased with the new service group. Note I am a retired Plant Engineer from a large paper mill with 48 years industrial experience. With the early experience of instillation and these poor soldered lines, I rated Butler a poor rating.Review from James C

Had a mini split added in a wing of the house near the end of the existing house A/C and heating runs to keep the temperature more even over the year. The quoting process was handled professionally and in a manner that allowed us to explore our options with no pressure to upsell anything. The work was performed by an experienced father and son team. We are happy with the results and the look and performance so far and have no reservations about recommending Butler to anyone.Butler Heating and Air Conditioning Response

I had a furnace, hot water heater and also roofing work done. The service that I received was great. The technicians were on time, explaining everything that was being done. The technicians cleaned up afterwards I didn’t have to go back and straighten out anything. I recommend them highly.Butler Heating and Air Conditioning Response

Butler HVAC installed a complete HVAC system for me in November 2023. The installation was flawless and the personnel working the job were very professional and attentive. I would recommend Butler to anyone wanting to replace their system. Price was very competitive. Paul J. WestcottButler Heating and Air Conditioning Response

Butler was able to send a technician on the same day I called for assistance with a faulty furnace. They were able to work with my schedule to get my new furnace, humidifier and thermostat installed. Butler found issues along the way that were not visible before pulling the old unit out. The crew explained the issues to me and made the needed repairs without increasing the price. The crew was very professional and cleaned up everything nicely after the completion of the job.Butler Heating and Air Conditioning Response

In October 2023, the furnace stopped working in our new condo. We have always called Butler and have worked with them for about 37 years. They came out, determined what we needed and installed the new system. As always, they were great. They answered our questions, cleaned up and were very professional. During the install they discovered a water pipe problem and had a team that repaired it. We cannot recommend Butler more highly especially as we age. As a 81 year old senior living alone, I discovered,on Nov 13, 2023, the furnace would try to re-light itself while it was still running. My furnace was cutting on and off. I placed a service call to Butler Heating & Air Conditioning stating I possibly needed a gas valve replaced . I discovered the gas valve was defective. When the techs arrived on Nov 13th, they agreed that my gas valve did in fact need replacing. The tech insisted that I should replace the furnace.. I told them no. I was only interested in replacing the faulty gas valve. I requested an itemized bill. I was charged $1000 for the new gas valve. I was charged $344 for the repair that took 30 minutes. I was never given a written estimate or a fair price. I was overcharged for the part & this job. I paid the bill in full. I expressed my concerns regarding the costs. I complain Nov 14 shoddy workmanship (the gas valve was installed crooked) I was given an apology for the poor workmanship plus the fact no shoe coverings were worn throughout my carpeted house. On Nov 22, 2023, I had a visitor notice the smell of gas in my home. I immediately called 911. The Trotwood Fire Department came, evacuated my residence and discovered a gas leak in my home from the newly installed gas valve which had been present for eight days and shut off the gas valve until a repair could be made. I immediately called Butler. After some hesitation from Butler, they decided to send a tech out to re-repair the gas valve, replace two pipes and a couple of valves. I believe I am owed compensatory damages for the fact my health and life was jeopardized as a result of their defective workmanship. I believe I am owed money from Butler for labor in the amount of $1000. Butler has issued $250 check which I have not cashed as I expect compensatory damages of an additional $750 for pain and suffering from the gas leaks. I have experienced no further problems.Butler Heating and Air Conditioning Response

We do not agree with the facts as you have presented them. When I spoke to our technician he disputes that he ever insisted that you should replace your furnace. Instead, he merely asked if due to the age (26 years) you would like to consider a free estimate on a new furnace due to the costly nature of the repair. We do not have or give out itemized bills. All work is quoted and accepted by the customer before we proceed with any repair so you were given an estimate. We do discuss pricing as fair or not we present the price and leave to yourself to either accept or decline. The gas valve was not installed crooked, on your furnace the design was to have it slanted slightly. That is the way we found the old valve and the way we installed the new one. We find it very odd that if we left your home with a gas leak it would take eight days for your to smell gas. We never hesitated to come back and see where the gas was leaking from. It was not from the new gas valve, the leak was located at a union fitting. We repaired the union and did this under warranty. We believe this is 100% a pricing issue and feel the $250.00 refund is more than fair given the actual facts of the case.Review from Bo G

We hired Butler heating and air to completely re-do our HVAC system including ductwork at our new property in Oakwood, OH. Keith, who has 30+ years of experience designed a system to account for the entire main floor including the addition, the upstairs of our 1950 cape cod. They included good suggestions to assure our comfort in the home while improving the overall efficiency. Our general contractor could not have been more complimentary of Keith and his experienced installation crews. I would recommend Butler without hesitation.Butler Heating and Air Conditioning Response
