I'm contacting you on behalf of my parents ******* and ***************************. Approximately 1 year ago they hired Lewis Construction to do some repairs on their garage and driveway. After a few months we noticed cracks in their drive way. They reported the cracks in spring of 2022 and were told it had a warranty. According to Lewis Construction, whoever they contracted the concrete through is not following up. We would be open to either a repair or a full refund of the concrete portion of the original job.Customer response

Hi ******, Lewis Construction did not provide a written warranty, it was verbal when they came and inspected the cracks in the driveway.Business response

************************* (my project manager), ************************* (concrete sub-contractor) and I met with ******* and *************************** Monday evening, October 3, 2022. We examined the concrete that is clearly cracked through four of the eight slabs we poured. Our sub-contractor believes there is excess water draining under this concrete and is concerned that if he re-pours the concrete, it will crack again. An adjacent slab (that is decades old) has a crack in the same general area. The ********* disagree with that assessment. They and I believe there is not excessive water in this low-lying area so my opinion is the sub surface must be the problem. We installed 4-6" slag under the 4" concrete slab. Assuming it was compacted correctly, the area beneath the slag may be the problem.
The meeting was cordial. I asked if they would like a cash allowance (not a full refund) or if they want to have the slabs replaced. Based on our experience with this location, we cannot guarantee it not cracking again. They said they will think about it and possibly wait until the winter to see if it gets worse next year.
So, we are on a holding pattern pending whether they want to wait until spring or accept a cash settlement and live with the cracks.
******************* also said she had no intention of calling BBB and she plans to withdraw this complaint. We have done other work for them which they have always been pleased with.
