We are responding to complaint number ********, involving Ms. ******* ******. Ms. ****** contacted
our consumer team on 4/30/2024 with an allegation involving Mazuri® Alpaca+Llama Maintenance Diet
that was purchased through Chewy.com. We were informed by Ms. ****** that her two llamas were
being fed one cup twice a day and free choice grass hay for 6-8 months when suddenly, the 6 year old
llama experienced a mortality. Ms. ****** stated that she “tossed it out so the goats would not eat it”
and called the consumer team to report the incident after following up with Chewy and a veterinarian.
As an animal nutrition business, we take all claims seriously. The lot code was asked for and not
provided. With multiple manufacturing facilities delivering to many of Chewy’s DCs, we are not able to
track and trace lots once it leaves our facilities. Therefore, we don’t have visibility to what Chewy sends.
Moreover, the feeding directions on the bags direct animal owners to feed 0.5% of body weight which is
more than two cups per day. Knowing this, our representative offered an alternative to meet Ms.
******’s surviving llama’s nutritional needs. No veterinarian has followed up with us to confirm Ms.
      ******’s claim.
Attached is the letter that was sent to Ms. ****** which states that without a lot code, we are not able
to move forward with an investigation without knowing where the product was manufactured or when.
If you have any additional questions, please reach out to me
