On 5/7/23 we signed a contract with this company to construct two overhangs on our property. At that point we put down half the price of the project as a down payment ($7000). After a few months I’d the project being delayed by the builder, it was decided that our down payment would be returned and we would plan to complete the project the following year. The contractor returned $4500 on 7/18, due to him stating he had to return the materials prior to the rest being returned. At that time we ask the name of the company the supplies were purchased from or the cost. He was sun able to provide either piece of information. He then agreed to pay $500 each month to us until the full amount was returned. He made one payment of $500 on 8/31 and has not paid back any more of the remaining balance of $2000. Since then we have tried contacting him multiple times and have not had any phone calls, text, or emails.Business response

I had Jeffers lawn innovations out in august of 2020 to add on a back porch overhang over my existing patio. Corey came out and walked through the design with me and cost. He did the install about 4 weeks later. Since then, the support beams are now bowing and cannot support the weight of the roof and I am incurring additional fees to pay for the structural engineer to make a plan to fix the roof before it falls off of the house, and then I will have to pay for the structural beams to be replaced in the ground to the correct permitted depth (that Corey’s team didn’t do) and use the proper 8x8 beams to support the large size of the roof rather than the 4x6’s originally used in the very shallow depth. I’m now out thousands of dollars additionally to correct his errors.Business response

Good evening,
I got a letter pertaining to a project completed over 2 years ago for ***** *****.
This project was permitted through the city a set of plans was submitted to the city and their plans examiner approved the plans.
***** ***** was warned that the existing roof we were tying into was in poor shape when we built the roof. If there is damage to her roof I would imagine that damage was caused from the other roof not being sealed as the shingles were 30+ years old.
I am not willing to return her money it has been over two years since the project was built and the plans were inspected and approved by the building department, which means the way it was built met the building codes outlined in the Ohio revised code starting with section 150.1.
If I had to guess ***** saw the other complaints and saw people were getting refunds, so she figured she would throw her pitchfork in the fire as well.
We will not be giving ***** a refund or any type of compensation.
She never once tried reaching out or contacting me before filing this report.

Hello.
I called the central office because I could not get the form to go through online
in response to this update. She suggested that I could just email you the documents. I am rejecting the information sent by the business and will include my statement below and the attachments I was trying to include on the online document.
I am rejecting the information because:
When I booked Corey J****** of Jeffers Innovations, I found him on ********. He has since deleted all of his information on ******** for both the company and himself personally. I attempted to contact to reach out to him directly. My issue at hand has nothing to do with the quoted "old roof" as the roof adheres to the structure just fine, it's the bowing of the support beams that are concerning which is what made me reach out. There are multiple things that were not followed per the sketch that he turned in with the permit. There is no double beam as quoted, nor is there an overhang on the East side of the property. The wood is being rotted out on one of the cross beams because treated wood wasn't used, and the structure didn't protect it from rainfall.
The beams were not this crooked when installed, the weight of the roof is making them bow out and crack, so I couldn't immediately contact Corey to correct them. One of the beams doesn't even fully go to the roof which is also an issue when comparing the sketch with the permit. The beams need to be replaced now so we don't lose the structure, and the cross beam will need to be replaced as well and then reconstructed to protect the wood from the water runoff that was created by the installation onto the garage roof. I had no idea that Mr. J****** was experiencing other issues with other patrons, but now that makes me more concerned for issues others are having. We spend a lot of time out here and over the last few months have become increasingly concerned about the beams on the east side of the structure that we then called in others to assess the structure, since I couldn't find contact info for Corey. As you will see in the images I provided, there are two beams on one side of the building. I used the grids in my photo app to show a straight line and then used a level to take the image. You can see how much the center of the beams is bowing and is cracked since the installation. Again, this has nothing to do with the age of the shingles at the top of my house as nothing was attached to them. The only thing touching the "old shingles/roof" is the flashing that he tucked underneath them to divert water on top of the roof he installed. One has nothing to do with the other. I have also included a video zip file that walks the property and shows all the different areas of concern. I paid $8,800 for a roof that is going to fall down in one corner. It's not structurally sound and I think a building structure should be built to last more than 2 years!
I did try and contact Mr. J****** before filing.
The age of my roof shingles has nothing to do with your beam structures bowing under the weight. Where the structure attaches to my house seems intact. It's fully your structure that is having issues, and nothing to do with the existing house you tied it into.
The permit wasn't followed.

the Stand alone post pictures does not prove support to the structure at all, she asked that I add that post because she wanted to build a slat wall, as she did on the other side. It is not bowing from the weight of the roof it’s drying out and in the drying out process lumber bows. That stand alone post is also NOT included in the plans submitted to the city.
there is a double beam you can clearly see that in the picture, she has her terminology incorrect, a double beam is what’s holding the roof up. That non structural post that’s bowing could be removed and there would be no structural issues.
The front post that may have a slight bow, I can’t tell because a hand drawn line doesn’t show anything may have a slight bow. Bowing and cracking is the natural part of the wood drying process. especially if not painted, stained, or sealed.
I can clearly see in this picture that the wood was not stained, painted, or maintained in any way shape or form. All wood has to be at the very minimum sealed or it will turn grey and could bow or crack.
There is nothing further that I will be doing for this project, if she’s that concerned about the structure she should have an engineer come and look at it and let them tell her that it’s structurally sound.
the roof is built exactly as the plans submitted to the city showed, and the city passed the inspections.
there is no refund due this this customer, and she will not be receiving one.
I would highly recommend hiring an engineer before you spend the money to replace the structure, because replacing the structure would be a mistake, as it’s structurally sound and built correctly. And before it’s asked of me, no I will not hire an engineer.. I did my part I had plans drawn.. then turned those plans into
the city and they’re engineer okayed them.

The support beams were stained and sealed as he directed, as you can see in the images. The plans were not followed as now HIGHLIGHTED in his drawings. The two beams on one side are bowing. You are saying that one isn't weight-bearing and decorative, except you needed the one on the other side to support the roof, but one is weight-bearing and the other is not? That makes zero sense. The two on one side have bowed, and you can see from the photo using a level it's impacting the roof.
The image included in the last update had grid lines to clearly show the curvature of the wood.

Again the posts on the sides of the roof are not on the plans. You’re using a 1’ long level to level a long run.
I suggest you call an engineer.
the drawings match what as built. The one foot overhang on the beam
there’s clearly overhang on that beam.
im not doing the back and fourth with your you’re clearly wrong, you’re not getting a refund.
send me an engineers report that says that roof is not structurally sound and then we can talk. You’re not a builder. You own a tape measure and a 1’ level. You don’t know how to read plans, you’re making assumptions that are false. I’m sorry but you’re not getting any money from me unless you provide me an engineered report showing that the roof isn’t structurally sound.
because it’s built to what I submitted to the city and signed off on by the city.
have a good day!

I went into Contract on 12.01.2022 for a deck, front porch, shiplap installation and base boards in whole first level of home to be installed. I was told at time of contract it would likely be Spring 2022 to start. I wasnt in a hurry in the winter to have it done and said that was fine. On March 6th I reached out to follow up and get possible ETA of project starting. I didnt hear back for several days so I called him and was able to get April as date to start. On April 20th I reached out again as I needed drawings to submit for permit to city and still had not received them yet. I was told on April 22nd I would have them by the end of the week. On May 5th I reached out again about Drawings no response, Reached out May 7th again and received response that he was working on a fence and I am next on the projects to start offered because of weather that if he needed indoor jobs he could install my shiplap and base boards while we were waiting on permits. He indicated to me it is easier to complete jobs at one time. On May 16th I reached out again because still no drawings no response, Reached out May 17th no response, reached out May 19th, May 20th and May 21st no responses. One May 24th I received a response he had an out of town emergency and hadnt forgotten about me he was just buried with work and short staffed. I explained that I understood but this wasnt honestly my concern and that I needed drawings for permits to get this started and needed them ASAP. Received the drawings on May 26th after another email requesting them and they were very vague and I was told to apply for permit online. On June 2nd I heard back from City and more information was needed so I sent information to Corey to review . No response till June 15th and still needed more information. On July 21st I was told that he would have plot plan information over to me to complete permit never received. I requested a refund on 8/7/2022 as I have had no response and still not responding to request.Business response

Corey J****** quoted me to do a pole barn build in September of 2021. He stated that the work could be started in the winter of 21/2022. Once I had funding secured and and contract signed for him he was quick to get the first bank draw of funds on November 9, 2021 and said that work would begin as soon as he finished 2 other small pole buildings. March 27th, 2022 work was supposed to start the following week. No show. Excuse of the lift needed for the job not being in service. Went a couple more months and he stated he was contracting the project to another contactor. That contractor showed up June 21 and started work for a couple days and the work was all wrong. Mr. J****** then showed up with his few guys and pulled all the work that the other guy started and framed the building enough to get the 2nd bank draw payment and then has not made an effort to show up from that point. That was on June 29th, 2022. I have messaged him multiple times for the last 40 days with little to no response. He cannot give me a date when they will complete work or move on to the next step. I have asked him to just refund me my money minus the material he has in the job that is still usable. At this point there is a lot of material that has been sitting out in the elements and now it is not usable. I just want this to be rectified asap so I can move on and get my building done. As of now I have paid Corey $48,666.Initial Complaint

We agreed to engage Corey to provide various services at our residential property, notably, completion of a deck and a fence. He came well regarded in our neighborhood, but based on recent BBB complaints, there appears to be a consistent pattern of Corey collecting money and not performing work as agreed. Corey was quick to give us an estimate and come to our house to collect a deposit of $5,350 (which he cashed same day) – but that’s where the communication stopped. We contracted in March 2022 and were told we were near the top of his list, with the work to begin in early April. Since we paid, we have had to initiate all communications, often met with no response or an untimely response, an excuse, and delay. We were strung along for several months when he finally gave us a firm date. Nobody showed. My husband reached out to inquire about status and Corey indicated he couldn’t get ahold of his crew lead but that they were probably loading up their trucks. He also stated he was out of town on an anniversary trip – likely in an attempt to get us to leave him alone that day. That’s the last we’ve heard from him. Our agreement was conditioned on Corey securing the necessary permits from the City of Worthington. When asked toward the end of June if he secured the permits per the contract, he indicated that he forgot, but that he would get his “staff” right on it. He failed to do so, and inquiry with the Auditor revealed that no permit requests had been submitted. Here we are with no deck as promised, down over $5k, and we took down our existing fence in reliance on Corey replacing it – we have a corner lot and our property is now completely open. I sent Corey a notice of termination and demand for repayment of the $5,350 deposit we paid, but have not heard anything since. I know he received it, as I sent it via certified mail to his residence, and it was accepted. We are very disappointed and frustrated - Corey was very likable and we trusted him.Initial Complaint

The contractor (Corey J******) came to our property Wednesday August 4, 2021 to talk about a porch build. He took measurements and pulled up a contract on his phone. My father (***** ******* gave Corey permission over the phone to work with me because he works out of town and I can make the decisions. I signed the contract (with my father's permission and Corey acknowledging that I can sign) on Wednesday August 4, 2021. I went into the house and gave Corey a check my father originally signed for this project. Later that day my father decided he wanted a concrete foundation for the porch instead of wood and Corey obliged and changed the contract to the concrete foundation. We had to pay $1,200 more. We gave that amount in a cashiers check from ***** bank. In total the company received $8,450 from my father. I have been contacting Corey on when the project should start and he's told me of a couple of unforeseen events that occurred and delayed the project. We were very patient. On Friday, November 19, 2021, Corey started to not respond to my text messages as he had previously. December 8, 2021, Corey responded to my text message and informed me he was wrapping up on another project and we were next, communication ceased on his end until March 28, 2022 he gave us the start date which was April 19, 2022. On the April 19, 2022, Corey responded to my text message informing me that work could not be done due to rain and if we no longer wanted to wait we can get a refund. My father told me to go ahead and just get the refund. Informed Corey we'll take the refund and he said he had to return materials and give him 21 days to provide us with a refund. I gave him more than 21 business days and reached out to him again May 25, 2022; no response. I have emailed Corey, called the two phone numbers that I had to reach him and no response still. The voicemail box was and still is full. I would just like our refund of $8,450.00. I don't want to keep chasing anyone for our refund.Business response

March 20th 2022 Corey J****** and I signed into contract for building shell of cabin with roof and decking. Corey was paid initial down payment of $20,000. (I have contract and receipts) The understanding was he would start my work after completing a mutual friend’s job around end of 4/22 to beginning of 5/22. Excuses started that due to weather he would be behind start time. 5/16/22 no work had been started and Corey quit responding via calls or texts. My girlfriend started looking into Corey and found numerous complaints on the BBB, **** ******** ******* ****** *** ******* Due to the lack of communication my girlfriend reached to him on FB and she was blocked immediately. Corey then messaged me and said he would mail a refund check out in 2 weeks for $20,000 once he returned the materials. Beginning of June no check had arrived and he was messaged, Corey sent a picture of a check and assured it was in mail. ** ****** ** **** ******* *** *** ******** A complaint was filed with our local sheriff and Corey’s response was he would have money paid back before the complaint hit the prosecutor’s desk. Corey told the Sheriff he would wire transfer the refund of $20,000 by the end of week. Today is now 6-9-22 and no money has been received. I believe Corey took my money with no intentions of ever completing the work and used the money to payback another disgruntled customer. I am asking for immediate assistance in my refund and urge anyone to NOT conduct business with Corey J******. He has blocked me so now I can’t contact him to get this resolved.Business response

We signed a contract and made a down payment (half of the amount for work which was 7500 dollars). While the start date was not clearly defined we were expecting to start in one to two months. At first we were told that we were third on their list. We followed up in January of 2022 and got no follow up or response from the owner. I have callled, texted, and left voice mails but only have been able to contact him once. He did say he would get back to us but he has not. We would like to have our money back and hope that this complaint helps other people not have the same experience as us.Initial Complaint

DO not do business with Corey. He is a compulsive liar and I do not know how he sleeps at night. Dragged his feet for 8 months and did not start the job at all. Took my money and has yet to return my 20,000. Has not shown any proof of lumber. Now is saying he needs 3000 to cover restocking fee. The lumber was never delivered to my house. He’s the biggest scammer I have ever met and I hope he rots for this. He’s a thief and taking innocent peoples money. This is ridiculous. I called this guy a friend. Complete scum.Business response
