My orthopedic surgeon's office told me they wanted me to use a cryo brace for therapy after my knee replacement surgery. They told me there would be no cost to me. I received the brace from Darah Medical sometime in late June or early July (2024). On August 2nd, Darah sent me a bill for $136.16. I contacted them, and they eventually put me in touch with the sales **** ***********************. ****** eventually called me (on Aug 6th) to tell me that they were required to send me the bill, but I didn't have to pay it. Furthermore, ****** reassured me that I wouldn't get another bill. On September 3rd, I received another bill from Darah Medical, stating that I still owed $136.16 and I was now ***** days past due. I called *********************** on September 3rd at 2:52 pm, and left a message asking him to call me. I called him again on September 4th at 2:02 pm, and left another message asking him to call me. He has not returned my calls. I called Darah Medical's main office on September 4th, and left a message for ***********************, who is apparently the manager. She has not returned my call.I am concerned about my credit rating if they keep sending me bills. I want them to stop sending me bills, and remove the amount they say that I owe. If they are unwilling to do that, I want them to take back the cryo brace they sent me, and notify my insurance company that I returned the brace to them.

I am very sorry that you were not contacted in a timely fashion from our company.  Your question was forwarded to the correct managing contact by ****.  Your physician's office was incorrect in stating that you would owe nothing.  Your medical insurance has a co-insurance that would apply to your medical equipment.  Please contact me directly at ***************** so I can help with this issue.

      Better Business Bureau:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me.  We have come to an agreement on the bill they sent to me.  No further action is needed.

My spine specialist at the Cleveland Clinic prescribed a home traction machine for me for my neck. On or about September 15, 2021 I purchased the unit from DARAH MEDICAL EQUIPMENT AND SUPPLIES LLC, but sought to have my ***** Medicare insurance pay for 80% of the cost as per my Evidence of Coverage contract. Darah REFUSED to file the claim and wait for the reimbursement because they claimed ***** would not pay the claim. They forced me to pay the full $599.00 before they would ship me the unit, and they said they would refund the money to my credit card IF ***** paid. I have learned from ***** TODAY (2/18/2022) that they paid Darah $479.20 for the original $599 claim (the 80% that is *****'s responsibility), but in addition Darah has been billing them $60 for September, October, November, December of 2021 and $63.05 for January 2022. ***** has paid the 2021 claims IN ERROR at $48 per month, so Darah has collected $479.20 + $192 =$671.20 for a $599 claim and continues to FRAUDULENTLY collect more! I have not been refunded one penny even though I have demanded that in writing as per the attached documentation. Darah owes me $479.20 to be credited to my credit card or refunded to me by check. They owe ***** $192 for the overcharges, plus they should cease and desist AT ONCE any further billing to ***** and retract the January bill that has not yet been paid.

**** ******* According to my legal Evidence of Coverage Document from *****, they cover 80% of the $599 and I cover 20%, so as far as I know I am only entitled to $479.20 as I said before. I don't know how you came up with your number, but I want my $479.20 and I would like to get it now rather than later. I will let you, *****, the Ohio Attorney General, and Medicare.gov sort out your billing practices. I desire no further communication with you other than a refund check or credit to my credit card account. As per the directions from my spine specialist, I use the traction unit every other day and likely will for the rest of my life.

      ****,

***** is paying your unit as a 13-month rental. We have billed 6 months so far. We bill ***** $60 per month. That did increase in January as their fee schedule increased.

I agree that ***** should have gotten back to you. We had not received the EOB's from ***** in December but did call yesterday to clear that up. ***** is paying for your device so we can partially reimburse you for what you paid us in the beginning. I have attached the ***** Medical Policy. They do deem the cervical traction unit experimental. That is why we had you pay up front because we did not think that ***** would pay us and instead deny your coverage.

We actually owe you $539.38. Since you did have the equipment since September, we can't void our claim to insurance. If you would like us to stop billing if you are no longer using your cervical traction unit, please let me know.

We are not double billing. I understand that you think Medicare or the Attorney General will view how we bill as fraudulent, but I can assure you that we have done nothing wrong other than not get back to you about your refund.

Please let me know if this is an acceptable amount to refund. Also, if you are no longer using your cervical traction device, let me know so I can stop billing ***** and let you know how you can return your unit. I will also update your physician that you are no longer using your unit as well.

Subject: Re: Traction Unit - Darah Medical

According to *****, they sent you a lump reimbursement for 80% of the cost. In addition, you have been billing them $60 per month since September, but increased it to $63.05 in January for the same device. So you are double billing them. I have reported this to them and will be reporting it to the Ohio Attorney General and Medicare today. As of now, you have been paid fully by me, 80% by *****, plus the partial overbilling payments and yet ***** completely sloughed me off when I asked for the refund THAT I HAD BEEN PROMISED IN WRITING! I want my check or a credit to my credit card account for the 80% ( $479.20) that ***** has paid you. I want you to refund all the money to ***** that you have received from your monthly billing. And then you can deal with the authorities concerning your business practices. You ignored me before, and so I want nothing to do with you. I have informed the Cleveland Clinic of your practices and suggested that they find a new supplier to replace you.

I just wanted to reach out to you again about your cervical traction unit. I did leave you a message yesterday as well. Please contact me so we can discuss.
