  My son owns a 2005 Ford truck with an after-market Cummins diesel engine. Truck aficionados call this a "Fummins." My son called several mechanics before selecting Milard's, based on the owner seeming knowledgeable about Fummins trucks and saying he could get the work done in about two months, while other shops were estimating six months. That was spring of 2022. The truck was towed to Milard's Diesel in Millfield on June 23, 2022. On July 13, after the shop examined the truck, I sent a check for $12,000 for parts. Later, the owner reported some supply-chain delays. By September, he told us it would be done in two weeks. Through fall and winter, we were repeatedly told, "a couple weeks." Sometime this past spring, he found a leak, said that the truck needed a part rebuilt by another shop. We waited. Finally, he texted, May 23, 2023, saying we could pick up the truck "tomorrow." Hours later, he found a fuel injection problem. The truck didn't run.. More parts needed. More delays. It's now August of 2023. We visited his shop twice over the past year to check progress. Over the past 13 months, the owner has blamed delays on: supply chains; illness; labor shortages, family emergencies; and other difficulties. We have been understanding, but he is running a business and needs to complete work for customers or else tell us that he cannot do it. He complains that the Cummins engine didn't belong in this truck--but he knew about that engine before he accepted the work. This week, he is avoiding our calls and ignoring texts. We need the truck! He claims he wants it to be perfect. We just want it running or at least back in our possession, immediately. Months ago, he offered to discount his labor costs and to put on a new set of tires, at cost, as compensation for our months of waiting. I expect him to honor that.
