We decided that we wanted to update our entry hall and stairs. We decided not to do this work ourselves because we wanted to make sure that it didn’t look DIY and that this looked nice and professionally done. So we searched for awhile to find someone who had good reviews both online and was BBB Accredited. We went with Mac's Professional Services based on his A+ BBB rating and great reviews on ********. I felt assured that we had found someone that would do a nice professional job or would tell us when something was not in his wheelhouse. Items we wanted to have done: 1- Remove existing newel post and replace with new purchased oak post and cap. 2- Stain banister/rails and step tread 3- bathroom exhaust fan replaced Is the new newel post installed? Yes. Does it look professional in any way? No. Extra cuts on my stairs. Connection holes look awful. Are the stairs and banister railings painted? Mostly – along with some of my walls, trim and carpet, but I do think that I could have done better. Mac came out the day before and reviewed stairs, railings, the gel stain, and coating we purchased (was also present at time of quote). He took off the old newel post and installed new one and then proceeded to paint the top of the rails (he did not paint the bottom of the rails), the parts of the steps, and the new newel post. They did a very quick sand and then thickly the stain gel was painted on as opposed to the instructions on the can. There were multiple areas where the stain got onto our carpet, spots that were missed being painted completely on the newel post, and marks on walls and other areas from the gel stain being splattered or not kept in lines. I was told that the two exhaust fans I that had purchased (and Mac had seen in person the day before) would not work. My wife had to rush out to ***** and buy a new fan. We went from a 60 CFM fan to a 150 CFM fan, has poor suction. May be the fan itself but would have to pay to have looked at.

8/15/2022, BBB spoke to William M******* on the phone. He said that he wants to schedule a day to return to consumer's home to complete work/repairs. Mr. M******* is requesting the consumer call him ###-###-#### to arrange a date and time that works for consumer.

Vendor came to house and this issue could not be resolved. He was not willing to take any responsibility for his (lack of) craftsmanship. I will have to install new carpeting or pay someone to get the paint out of my carpets. I will have to pay someone to fix his "install" of my newell post. I will have to hire someone to fix all of his painting that is "outside the lines" and in places where paint was "missed". I asked for him to refund the portion attributable to his poor painting and I would east the cost of hiring a carpenter and carpet cleaning - and he said no.

First off, ******** **** is not the customer that contracted Mac's Professional Services for hire on this project. Secondly, I returned to the home on September 1st to remedy the concerns. I walked into the house to two combative individuals that were aggressive and argumentative.  After I gave my proposed resolution, the two homeowners rejected my resolution and continued to give insults in regard to the labor. I informed the homeowners that the stain product they gave me to use for the rail stain was not of my own and was not guaranteed as they purchased all the materials from a different source and ***** ************ ******** just performed the labor. Because no resolution could be met, I excused myself from the home.

I am rejecting this response because: Mac came out to discuss corrective work.   He did not see that there was any issue with the work performed.  He mentioned that since we provided the materials (stain and newel post) he didn't have experience with the stain - so, he clearly felt that was the justification for the incorrect way in which the work was completed.  When asked why he didn't follow the instructions on back, he just stated that we should have complained when he was here instead of asking him to come back.  He also felt that the only thing required to fix all of the issues brought up would be to "touch up some paint".  This would not have fixed 1 - the poor drilling on the newel post. He did not see an issue with the way that the holes are rough/uneven/unfinished.  He did not have a satisfactory solution to make the holes look better.  2 - He was not willing to fix the stain correctly how we wanted the intended stain to look - and it would not have corrected the stain that was on our carpet. We are still in a situation where we had to pay for carpet cleaning, we have a newel post that is ruined (and purchased by us), and we are going to have to pay to have someone to undo his mistakes and do the work correctly.  All pictures from original complaint are still valid.

      Regards,

      ******** ****
