We are reaching out about our adopted kitten (Scout). We first spoke to the shelter on 7/26/23 about adopting him. We picked him up the cat that day. Upon pick up, Scout sneezed while the lady was holding him. She assured me that she had just given Scout a shot that would take care of that. We were sent home with vaccination papers and the kitten. No other medical papers showing he had received anything else. That evening Scout was playful, but we could hear the congestion in his nose, the sneezing continued, as well as watery eyes. 7/27/23, we called the vet to get an appointment scheduled for him. 7/28/23, we called the shelter to see if he had been chipped, so we could have it done if not. We were informed that it could have been done upon request for $20. We asked when the first time they had noticed Scout had current symptoms. We were then told he had actually completed a full round of antibiotics the week before we picked him up. Again, we were not told about this prior to adoption, nor were we given any type of medical records for our reference or to take to our vet. Scout had his appointment with our vet. Scout has a virus picked up from the shelter and was not fully vaccinated to date. He is on antibiotics, though that can only treat any bacterial issues, not the virus that he carried home. Additionally, after Scout's stool sample returned, we were informed by the Vet that he had worms. The Vet prescribed additional medication that he is on for that. We would like reimbursed for the $205.19 for Scouts vet bills. We absolutely adore Scout, and just want him well. We are very fortunate we didn't have any other cats at home he could have infected. We contacted the shelter via email on 8/1/23 with this information and copies of receipts after leaving multiple voice mails. There was no follow up to resolve the matter. We sent another email on 8/3/23 stating that we would be in contact with the BBB for a resolution.Customer response

Hello,
We have an amendment for complaint ID 20477870. On 8/21/23 we had another vet visit to address Scout's sickness. He received a new treatment for his ears (sticky discharge leaking) as on-set from his sickness with a cost of $207.25. The vet prescribed additional medicines that we have to also apply to his ears now, as well as the ongoing eye medicines. Please see the attached receipt that we would like to add to this now running total of $412.44 that we have incurred treating Scout.
