We put down a 50% deposit for the remodel of our bathroom, approximately $15,000 and have not had ANY WORK DONE. Joe will not call us back or return our money. He has taken our money and RAN

I've expressed to them what happened with the company and its partners, I told them that we are able to do the work and have the materials to complete everything accept the shower at the moment. Unfortunately, a refund is not an option and the 2 shower wall systems have been ordered waiting on it to arrive.

I am rejecting this response because:

      1. This is the first communication we have received since November. We have called and sent multiple texts with no response. I still have not received information from *** on anything. He refuses to call ** back.

      2. The city of *********** requires contractors to be licensed, bonded, and insured to perform work. He has not provided this information nor registered with the city to start any work. ******************************************************* and **********************************************************************************

      3. We will accept the materials that he has purchased, meet in the *********** police parking lot to receive them and subtract this from our deposit for a refund. We have filed a report with ***************************** - reference number: ********** so they are aware of this matter.

      4. Because *** refuses to call us back we cannot have him back in our home to perform any work. He is unreliable and we cannot trust that he will even perform this work correctly given the lack of information and follow through.

I've reached out and explained the reasoning and offered to do the work. A Better Bath is scheduled to go in to bankruptcy but I still offered to complete the job with a different company, and they are refusing. There is NO MONEY to give. We have offered work they refuse. I have messages for proof.

      Customer response

      12/16/2022

I am rejecting this response because:

      1. You have made no comment on us picking up materials. You claim to have them, but won't give them to us then?

      2. You made no comment in registering with the city as a contractor to perform work.

      3. You are untrustworthy. You clearly knew you were having issues but took our $15,355 deposit anyway knowing this would happen and now everything is now gone less than 3 months later. I don't understand how you can go into bankruptcy and then immediately start another company and start doing this to other people? I don't understand how you can be rated with the BBB when this company is dissolved??

Our bathroom remodeling project was set to begin August 18, 2022. The contractors were a no-call-no-show and then began the project August 19th. We were told the project would be two days and a partial installation of our bathrooms were completed by 8/23. On 8/23 I notified the owner there was damage to the new tub installed, our walls and ceilings, the toilet was shifted and the wrong shower panel installed. Dave was supposed to be on site 8/24 and was another no-call-no-show. On 8/29 the company made another withdraw of funds $3,515.09, the initial deposit was made on 8/22 for $4,015.09. The damage and incorrect panel are still incomplete. Multiple phone calls, emails and text messages have been made to the company with no response.

We paid 50% $4,642.47 on April 5th and second half of $4,642.47 paid on May 13th. Job was to demolish existing tub with surround and install a 34 x 60 walk in shower Bellla Stone Limestone textured wall system with bench under the magnetic shower head with barn style glass doors and two matching corner shower caddies. They installed a 32 x 60 base instead of the 34 x 60 of which we were NOT happy about but did not realize until after the job was done and we were able to actually get in the shower (my husband measured it). They did however reimburse us $186.94 once we brought that to their attention but we would have rather had the space because it is a small area and every inch matters! On the day that they “completed” the job (all except for the caddy that was to installed on the right hand side by the shower head) we signed the paperwork and *** wrote on that paperwork that they had the shower caddy on order and it would be installed by June 1st. There have been several text messages back and forth and after 2 months text *** that we felt we had been more then patient and felt our only recourse at this point was to put in a BBB complaint by the end of the week and we got no response what so ever. Also, after they completed the job we asked them to come back out because the shower doors would not stay closed and Dave adjusted them and when we asked Dave about why they would not stay closed he said “they are probably defective” so we said “then don’t you think you should replace them” and his response was “well there is no guarantee that the new ones will not also be defective” and left! At this point all we are wanting is what has been not only promised to us but that we also paid for which is the shower caddy installed which would complete the job!

A Better Bath started our bathroom March 7th, 2022. They claimed it would take about 7 days to complete. We put $6000 down and then were to pay the 2nd half after completion which they claim is $6,878.93. The quote needed revised because there were items that needed removed, as I provided them, and I asked multiple times and it was never revised. The unrevised quote also caused confusion/miscommunication to the workers because they didn't even know what they were supposed to be renovating. We had to keep asking why certain tasks weren't being renovated and then they rushed through the rest of the bathroom to meet their dead line and did a terrible job. They damaged our barn door, walls, sink and vanity and did such poor work that they kept having to come back and redo/fix things and still haven't finished. They even left stains in our driveway from cutting tiles. Mid April hit and they no called no showed again on April 14th so we were fed up. They had from March 7th to April 14th to correct their mistakes and they would not try and fit us into their schedule. They charged my credit card for the 2nd half of the payment before the job was even complete and we never knew when they were coming back to fix their mistakes as they wouldn't give us dates/times. They even no called no showed twice. We had a terrible time getting a hold of them and they rarely called/text/emailed us back. When they worked, it was mostly 2-4 hours at a time and at their own leisure and we never knew what time they were gonna show up. They are too unprofessional and untrustworthy to complete the job. We would like reimbursed for the unfinished work, damages, items we were charged for that we provided and items I didn't want. I attached a lot of info below, but have a ton more photos and pics of unanswered texts to add to this if needed. There is probably not enough room to attach it all.

This is our reply in regards to The **********

They claim that the provided copy of our quote is inaccurate. She feels just because there are photos on there that it suggests that the items were not removed. Those line items represent the scope of work and are changed internally to include or not include those materials. The bottom line is that the amount charged for the job reflects everything as it should with her including her own items. If this was a continued problem I have no clue why she would pay that full balance and sign a completion statement with the credit card information to charge, they later disputed the charges of $6,878.93 which were reversed and is in dispute so technically they have stolen $6,878.93 from our company for completed work. We also returned several different times for service calls to complete touch-ups that she was concerned about and every time my employee left she was happy to then follow up the next day saying it wasn't good enough. We are extremely short-handed and are doing our absolute best to keep up with the demand and lack of labor force at this time. We are only a company of 3 at this point and are over our heads with our work load currently.

I am rejecting this response because:

Exactly as he said they are shorthanded so they rushed through my bathroom to get the job done for their deadline. It was their miscommunications that got them behind in the first place. They miscommunicated between each other and didn’t even know what they were supposed to be working on. I signed the paper because I was under the impression that it was for the second payment. No one told me it was a completion of work paper so why would I not sign it? I always planned to pay the 2nd payment. And I only had a few minutes to look over the bathroom while being watched by the employee. And also I am not a contractor so I do not know what to look for. Later that day as I was cleaning up their mess because there was grout and dirt all over the walls is when I started finding all the mistakes and I immediately contacted the owner. And yes as I stated in my first complaint they did come back and fix some of it but all of it isn’t fixed. They still never finished any of the caulk or drywall work and there are still a bunch of tiles that should be replace. The spacing of the grout in between the floor tiles looks terrible. There are also still a bunch of defective tiles and crooked tiles. And none of this covers any of the damages. We verbally agreed that they were going to replace my barn door that they damaged when demoing. And they are so hard to get a hold of I couldn’t even tell them about the vanity damage. The couple times that they no call no showed they could’ve gotten some more mistakes fixed and we could’ve been able to communicate. I still think that I should be reimbursed for the unfinished work and the damages. I don’t care what you say I signed anyways, you should own up to your mistakes and not blame it on the customer just because you are too busy. Bottom line is you damaged my stuff and didn’t finish the bathroom and I should be reimbursed for it.

The business owner informed BBB that, to his knowledge, the $6,878.93 is still being disputed through the credit card company.  The consumer already signed a completion form stating that everything was done except the shower door.  The shower door has since been installed.  The business has been back to repair the tile, but the consumer was the one to provide the tile.  It is a cheap tile that is not good for floors.  It can be easily marred or broken.  The business has replaced and regrouted a number of tiles already for the consumer.  The consumer was also doing the painting work herself.  The business was not hired to do a total reinstall of the drywall, only to patch areas when requested by the consumer.  The business feels the only outstanding issue is the barn door.  The business is willing to reimburse the consumer the $389 to settle the matter.

      Customer response

I am rejecting this response because:

That is absolutely a lie the remaining balance is being disputed. We were charged the full amount and are making months payments as we speak. I can submit proof if needed. If the tile was so cheap why wasn’t I told while installing? I was told it was a little difficult to work with due to it being in 12x12 sheets and that it was no problem popping some out and replacing them. And as far as I know, Virginia Tile does not sell poor quality tile. They work with a ton of high end designers and contractors. WHERE WAS THE COMMUNICATION with the customer? You were supposed to be the expert. This is nothing but a bunch of excuses for the poor management of my bathroom remodel. The barn door was $500 so I will not accept $389. I also already submitted the receipt for the barn door. And again, that still doesn’t cover the rest of the unfinished work and damages.
