In the May-June 2023 timeframe we had "a step above floors" replace carpet in our living room with wood flooring to "match" the wood flooring in other areas of our house. The company agreed to move furniture, remove old flooring, make minor repairs to subfloor, install sand and finish (with an oil base finish) the new flooring, install moulding, and remove and dispose of the old flooring material. While removing the old flooring the technician broke the electrical plate for one of the two floor outlets in the room. This would not have been a particular problem except when the floor was installed there was a large margin left around the electrical box counting on the large outlet cover to cover the gap. Initially, I was not concerned about the broken cover because I could get upgraded outlet covers to replace the broken one. What I didn't know was that the older outlet covers are no longer standard and we could not find new outlet covers big enough to cover the gap. Neither the broken covers or the smaller covers are acceptable to cover the holes that are there. The company by breaking the original cover and then leaving a large gap around the electrical box caused the problem. We would like the company to either find and replace the covers (and the electrical box if necessary) with covers that will cover the gap, or repair the flooring so that the smaller covers will be sufficient.

On Feb. 7, 2022, my wife **** and I agreed via email to hire A Step Above Flooring to install hardwood on our home’s first floor when we would be out of town Oct. 15-29. We accepted the pdf estimates provided Feb. 4 by A Step Above Flooring owner Marty D*******. On Oct. 6, we provided a down payment of $12,500 to D*******. We agreed to pay the balance of the $25,785.72 project upon successful completion on Oct. 29. D******* assured us verbally on multiple occasions that there would be no problem completing the project by our return date on Oct. 29. In addition, the company’s website states: “We will ensure you have an expert installation and provide on-time delivery” and “we guarantee to provide the highest quality, individualized service for your flooring experience.” Not only was the flooring far from completed on Oct. 29, but we returned to a safety hazard within our home. Upon entering from our garage, we walked into our laundry room to encounter our powder room toilet blocking the doorway, a big piece of equipment also blocking our way and our washer/dryer pushed out of place. When we walked to our stairs to carry our luggage to the second floor, boxes, equipment and plastic sheeting also blocked our way – creating a trip/fall danger. In addition, we found our newly renovated powder room damaged beyond reason. The vanity was scratched, there were multiple major drywall gouges, the light fixture was knocked out of place and there was evidence the crew was using our sink – as well as our new kitchen sink – to mix materials and clean their tools despite our request to D******* to instruct his workers to only use our basement utility tub. (This damage was in addition to multiple areas of minor wall damage throughout our first floor, which we understood would likely occur as part of the project. I repaired those areas with no complaint.) To read our full complaint, please see the attached ********** Complaint doc.
