On 4/27/3024, I purchased a leather sofa from Consign Home Couture for $697.00 + tax, Both the sales receipt and the price tag indicated the word leather. After 2 weeks in my home the sofa began to show unusual signs of creasing, cracking and peeling. I am a senior citizen living alone . I contacted Susan ***** the Proprietor via email with pictures expressing my concerns that this may not be a leather sofa. She answered my promptly indicating it was a bonded leather material and included a detailed explanation of the process to make bonded leather. She expressed sympathy for my situation and offered me a store credit for the balance of this year to purchase another sofa. She also hinted that I should have known by the price that it was not a real leather as the price tag on that would have been closer to $2000. I declined her offer. I loved this sofa for its style and comfort, but I expected leather as her presentation of the product indicated. After 6 weeks in my home I discovered extensive peeling of the bonded leather between the cushions and more cracking. I emailed her again, with pictures, showing the amount of damage to the sofa and asked if she thought this would be acceptable after only 6 weeks. I can guarantee you that she would not present a sofa with this much damage on her sales floor. I then researched bonded leather online and discovered that bonded leather is inclined to peel after exposure to severe heat, humidity and sunlight. It's like adopting rescue animal, there was no history on this sofa and now that it is exhibiting signs of exponential wear and tear, it's my lone problem. Ms. ***** and her consignment client got their payout and I'm stuck with a compromised piece of furniture. Is this fair? Can she honestly represent bonded leather as leather? I this an acceptable business practice?? I would appreciate some actual financial consideration and not a store credit. Thank you for your time and consideration.Business response
