Cornelius Petroleum Inc, PO Box 459, Kellyville, OK 74039 sent to my deceased wife, ****** ** ****, a Division Order for her to sign/return (postmarked 28 December 2021). I informed them via emails that she passed away on 21 July 2015. As the surviving spouse, I am unable to sign the Division Order as written. Then to complicate matters, Cornelius Petroleum Inc submitted a check to my deceased wife dated 31 December 2021 for royalties on the same property shown on the Division Order that they had requested she sign. In addition, a 1099 - MISC for the royalties in 2021 was provided with the check without a Recipient's SSN. The envelope that these documents were in was postmarked 20 January 2022. Why would Cornelius submit a Division Order and request it be signed/witnessed when they turned around and sent a check (ten days after the date of the Division Order) is beyond me. No doubt the check was backdated to 31 December 2021. I had sent two emails (dated 31 December 2021 & 22 January 2022) to Cornelius and a letter on 25 Jan 22 asking for an explanation. They did not respond to the emails or the letter. Since they failed to respond, I sent another letter (certified/return receipt) on 22 February 2022 returning the unsigned Division Order, the check and the 1099. I question their actions as well as their integrity/ethics in the way they handled this transaction. Furthermore, I know of one family member who has mineral rights on this same property who was not notified by Cornelius or for that matter the previous holders. Since I am unable to explain their actions to my CPA and my attorney, Cornelius Petroleum Inc needs to respond in writing and provide a detailed explanation on why they handled this transaction the way they did. I am sure the IRS will also want to eventually know why.

Consumer Response /* (2000, 9, 2022/03/27) */ Cornelius Petroleum Inc has since responded to me directly and has made corrections to the documentation originally submitted. Even though it has taken additional effort on my part to accomplish this, their response to my complaint, even though there are some unanswered questions, is considered satisfactory.
