Had the owner name **** at vip performance doing work on my car. He was supposed to install a aftermarket cluster and had already done work prior. His work is bad. He was getting frustrated and doesn't know what he is doing. Faulty install of car horn and installed my streeing wheel wrong twice that I had to fix myself. He took my car apart and had me come pick it up with out installing all the dash parts back. He has already gotten paid and hasn't finished the job. I asked him for my money back for the install and he refuses. So car didn't get fixed and I don't trust him to work on my car plus all the money I paid him for bad work that I already regret. Would like my money back for them not doing the job and felt threatened or unsafe around these guys in their business.Business response

I've done work on ****'s car for years and he has never complained about my work in the past. Now he is wanting a refund for work that was performed with no issues on my end. For the aftermarket cluster, he provided all the parts and the cluster harness was faulty as it has bad connections on the pins for the plugs, this is not due to an installation error. The cluster works, you can move the wires on the plugs by hand and it will turn on and off, that harness part he provided was faulty. I asked him to pick up the car so I did not have to store it for over 2 weeks while awaiting a replacement harness from him, and I did not put the cluster bezel surround piece back in as it all needs to come back out for the harness replacement. I fixed his horn issue no charge. I am a very honest business, and we always take care of our customers, but I do not feel a refund is warranted in this case.Customer response

Hello my names *************************. I put in a complaint on VIP Performance in ********. It shows that he responded and now you guys closed my complaint. The cluster wasn't installed and he has already gotten paid for it. He gave me my car back with the dash gutted and I had no tools. He is lying about finishing the work. He never adjusted the gas gage and never removed the srs light off the cluster. He charged me for the horn install and said he didn't charge me. He is lying. Please don't close my claim. I just paid him $3000.00 in work and now my car is over heating and the cluster doesn't work. He complains about stuff he can't do but before he does that he has you under the impression he can and will at a price that he will take from you and then start telling you it's more than he thought and keep charging you more money. He is a scam artist. My phone number is ************ I will send you some pictures of the charges so you know that I'm not lying. Please help me with this. Thank you.

I have attached the $210 invoice for the work performed in July 2024 for this customer. This invoice is for 1.5 hours of labor that was performed. The work billed was custom labor. We removed the stock civic cluster. Assembled S2000 cluster with brackets and carbon face. Installed jumper harness and installed cluster. Programmed Ktuned s2000 cluster conversion unit for ap2 cluster. And then we reassembled everything. Everything was working properly when the customer left the shop. This is proof that we performed the 1.5 hours of labor as we installed a completely different guage cluster on the dash of his vehicle, and it worked properly when he left our shop. To be clear - This labor was for removing the stock gauges in the dashboard of a vehicle and replacing them with fancier gauges from another vehicle and programming the car to properly function with these new gauges.
As you can see on the invoice, what was billed was ONLY labor. On the attached invoice it clearly states "Parts purchased outside of VIP Performance posses no labor warranty." We DO NOT warranty parts or labor to install those parts when they are purchased outside of VIP. The parts installed during this 1.5 hours of labor were purchased outside of VIP by the customer and brought to us to install.
A week after the customer had the car, the gauges stopped working, he brought it back to us and we diagnosed it for free. This entailed removing one plastic piece of trim held on by two screws. At that time we told him that the harness he had brought to us to install was faulty. After we told the customer that we would need to charge him to install yet another harness to replace the faulty one, he chose to open a claim with the BBB. We are a business and have to charge for our knowledge, expertise and labor. When we do actual labor by installing custom parts into a vehicle, our techs need to be paid. If the part we installed was purchased by VIP and then was faulty, that would have been a different story. Our invoice clearly states that there is no labor warranty for parts purchased outside of VIP.
The fact is, the cluster was installed properly with no issues with installation, the part to make the cluster function that the customer provided was faulty causing the cluster to turn on and off. We did install the parts provided to us, we diagnosed the issue over a week later for free. It is unfortunate that a complaint was opened over work that was completed, simply because we need to charge for labor that is performed multiple times due to customers bringing in faulty parts. Because of this exact issue we VERY RARELY install parts not purchased by us directly.Customer response

I am rejecting this response because: they don't care about doing a good job and finishing their work properly. Stold money from me and are straight out disrespectful!!
Sincerely,

Apologies for the late response I did not see the letters. To clarify, this engine swap and all the work to get it done was performed by VIP Motorsports, which is a seperate entity of VIP Performance Auto Repairs, my company as shown in the receipts he attached. What I provided to ***** was the Hondata Kpro and installation of it into an *** only, which I did and that part worked perfect as intended. When the *** was "fried" this was due to an electrical short in the car, not anything to do with my installation or the part itself. When the *** became damaged, this was the same day that ***** and his friend ***** attempted to work on the electrical components inside the car such as the components to get the digital dash working. The only way that the *** can get fried as it was is due to a shorted circuit and that that happened when they worked on the car, not us.
As far as the other work he is wanting done, he will be working this out with *** and his company VIP motorsports they are in communication. If there's anything else that needs clarification please let me know
Thanks, ****
