The area light flickered and when I opened it to check the batteries, there was a white substance. I was not given enough information to take care of this issue. I followed your caution and after the substance happened, I must ask for my money back. I bought it at ******* in *********** **.Customer response

Hello, there should have been a warning about how the white substance would occur. My batteries were fresh and it lasted 3 months. I deserve my refund. I thought it was time to change the batteries. I didn't mix old batteries and I only used alkaline. I have photos of the batteries. They are all alkaline and D size.Business response

Hello,
I've review this information and show a warranty request (ID #: ******) in our system beginning on March 2nd, 2024. There was an addition made by the customer on March 5th. We have been VERY busy lately, so our response times have been delayed lately.
Our Agent responded on March 13th with the following message, explaining the origin of the substance, and some ways to prevent this from happening in future. They then offered a link for a Free replacement of the product.

Hi ******,
Thank you for contacting COAST!
The white debris that you are seeing is known as corrosion. While corrosion and battery leakage are not traditionally covered under our Lifetime Warranty, we do offer a one-time courtesy replacement for this issue. First, we do like to cover corrosion and battery leakage with people, as this can often be prevented.
Corrosion and battery leakage can take place with alkaline batteries, especially when the light is not in use. We do recommend that when storing our lights to do so with the batteries outside of the light in a Ziploc bag that can then be rubber banded to the flashlight. This way the batteries are there in a time of need, but also the batteries are outside of the light if corrosion or leakage takes place. Some other great ways to cut down on corrosion and battery leakage are replacing the batteries every 3-4 months and making sure that you are using batteries from the same original packaging.
For your courtesy replacement, please click on the below link to verify your replacement order. You will want to verify/edit your address and then provide payment for shipping. You will know you are done when you see a COAST order number on your screen:

Please let me know if you have any additional questions or if there is anything else I can help with.
All the best,
*****--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The link would then have led to a pre-built cart in our online store, and as soon as the customer completes this order, a new Lantern would be on the way. If this email just needs to be re-sent, that can absolutely be done.
Thank You,

Hello,
I still believe my situation merits a simple refund for the product. My mail information is current for the other suggestion of a replacement item. All the suggestions with ***** were gotten after the white substance happened. I still believe it would be best to put warning of the white substance on the box. It is clear to me that I don't have to participate in the app club, had I known, from my previous incident, had I recognized it, I wouldn't have bought the item at all. I bought two sets of batteries assuming it would not be needed.
Sincerely,
LaurenCustomer response

We are so sorry for any confusion around our warranty policy. We do reserve the right to request the product on any warranty claim be returned for inspection. As you have reported failures far exceeding our average defective rate, the product from your most recent claim does need to be returned for inspection prior to replacement. Your warranty claim has not been denied, it is simply on hold until the light has been returned. Our offer for a free return shipping label stands and we are still more than happy to replace the flashlight should you be able to recover and return it.Customer response

I am rejecting this response because:
Because this is only the third time I replace this flashlight cuz every one of them flickered when I first got them and I hate when companies say they reserve the right for how the customer sending it back when they haven't previously done it if you would have had me send my other one back I would have kept this one and sent it back I have no way of finding this flashlight I have no idea what my son did with it if you guys would have told me to send back the other flashlights then I can understand but I think it is very unfair for your customers to get warranty on stuff and then all of a sudden you want something makes no sense if you want something one time you should want it every time not pick and choose
Sincerely,
