Around the beginning of April or so, I contacted George's P&H about some pipes I needed moved in my basement/rec room area. Eventually an employee came over and looked at what I wanted done and advised me the job would cost about $600 and said that was on the high side and it could be less. I agreed to have the work done and on 5/19/22 the gentleman came over and dropped off some materials, drilled some holes, and basically set up the job for a future date. On 7/13/22 two men came to do the work and the work was completed to my satisfaction. Today I received a bill for $1,593.70. When I called and complained I was told about some extra work they did. First of all, the extra work they did would not have cost anywhere near $1,000 and second of all, I was never even remotely informed the extra work would be another $1,000. I have no issues paying for work done at my home as I have used George's P&H for going on 30 years, but this bill is ridiculous. If the work was going to cost me an additional $1,000 I should have been informed of that ahead of time. I really feel that I was taken advantage of on this job. This job should not have cost even $1,000, let alone $1,593.70

We received your letter dated July 29, 2022. I would like to start by telling you that I had a conversation with ** ****** prior to receiving your letter. It was my opinion, that he wasn't' happy with the bill, but I thought he understood the extra work that had been done, and that the bill was justified. He said he was going to pay the bill.
Obviously with that not being the case, I will list the following:

3/25/22 We gave a "ballpark" verbal quote to replace approx: 60' of pipe and fittings to change a water line. He was quoted 3-4 hours work and about $ 600.00
We have been extremely busy and therefore we didn't get to the job right away. We even went so far as to ask if we could do it "piece meal" to get it done. They agreed.
As we went to do the job, it was discussed with my guy that there was lots more pipe that needed to be replaced. Again he agreed. His words to Jerry (my guy) were. "Go ahead, good idea". Also when Jerry told him he doesn't figure pricing, he said "I won't hold you to it" It was time and material.

The owner said he was going to put a finished ceiling in the basement, so my guys suggested to replace everything above the ceiling and behind the paneling. *** ****** was to remove the paneling, which it turned out he did not, so we had to run the pipes in a different manner, taking more time.

Mr Snyder was there, he was asked, and made aware of the additional pipe, fittings, and labor to do the job correctly. He agreed, he knew additional work was being done. More work, more parts, more labor = more costs.

We have included an itemized bill of the work performed. As you will see, it was almost double the pipe and lots of fittings to complete the installation.
I see no reason to concede any amount on this bill. We did it right, he agreed, the first quote was for a minimal repair. Nothing was done that ** ****** wasn't there and agreed to.

If you would like to meet at his residence with my men and discuss and show you the work performed, and what was not done by him as promised, we would welcome the opportunity.

      Sincerely,

      William ** G*****
