On 31 July 2024, we contracted Cantey Foundation Specialists to repair a foundation concern, install a new dehumidifier, and relocate and rewire electrical for the dehumidifier. On 16 August 2024, their subcontracted electrician finally came to do the electrical portion. They had to access the breaker box and did some rewiring. We lost power to the left side of our garage, sprinkler system, and a security camera. We didn’t know until the back up battery on the camera died that there was no longer power. I’ve reached out to Cantey for weeks now. The Spires Electric person called once, said he would come and has since ignored my phone calls. Cantey is now ignoring my phone calls. I have never experienced such dishonest business practices. It was around 18,000 total with the dehumidifier, pumps, and related electric being 13,532.33.Business response

First Consult: 5/31/24 First job was done on June 13, 2024. Issue reassessed on July 30, 2024. The second job or "fix" was done Sep. 9, 2024. I have pictures and videos to show results. I asked Cantey if they could prevent water from entering through a doorway into my basement. They said they could and I hired them. When it rains I still have water coming into my basement in large amounts . After their initial installment they were very hard to reach and slow to respond. When they came out to "fix" the issue, I was told by "Zach" that the initial job was not completed properly. They reworked the area. Second rain came. Water still floods into my basement. I've reached out to the company asking for a refund. I paid and have NO result. I'd also like to mention that the sales rep, Bo Armfield, admitted that upon my first consultation, he never looked in my crawl space and therefore he didn't supply me with all the accurate options for repair. Mr. Armfield came out to reassess after the first job when I complained, and told me only at that time that I also had water under my crawl space. So, now I have invested over $5 thousand dollars, still have water flowing into my basement and also have a crawl space issue that was not addressed initially that will also need repair. I would like a refund so I can find a capable company and crew to address ALL my issues correctly. Thank youBusiness response

We hired Cantey to repair a concrete walk. As part of their service they offered to clean and seal all the concrete in front of my home. The cleaning was not the best. I was not present so I’m not sure if the concrete was sealed. When they came a week later to repair the walk I pointed the bad job out to the crew leader. He offered a discount but I declined. It wasn’t that bad and the work on the concrete was done well. After some rain I started getting stains on my walk and driveway and they continue to get worse. I don’t believe any sealer was ever put on the concrete. I called twice and asked for someone to come look. I sent an email demanding my money back and was told someone would come look. A man named Chase said he would have the local manager call and set up an appointment to come look. That was a week ago. I am contacting you because they claim that they are listed by the BBB.Business response

On July 18th 2024, I had Sullivan from Cantey Foundation Specialist come to do a free estimate on my Foundation. The total figure came out to a very large sum, and I told him that I would need time to think about it. He was very insistent that I leave a deposit on the same day, and that doing so would give me a 10% discount. I agreed. After speaking with some trusted associates, I came to realize that I had made a mistake in making the deposit, and requested the deposit be returned the next day. He agreed, but once again pushed me to sign another contract giving me most of the deposit back, but they would keep some and I would retain the discount. It has been over a month and I have yet to receive my funds. I am no longer interested in doing business with this company given how slow they have been in returning my money. I have contacted Sullivan multiple times, and he tells me that "It will be fixed soon". The amount owed to me totals $1919.69. That's almost a mortgage payment!Business response

I hired them to repair termite damage in 2017 and again in 2022 to replace and repair sub floors and install sump pump, water barrier and to install a dehumidifier. This was the time frame when Bob took his final turn and then passed in Sept 2021. I had no way to check behind this company so had no idea that they did not do what was expected for these repairs. I kept finding things wrong inside the house and had them out multiple times to check on it and make repairs. Things kept getting worse. I had to have new surface floors and baseboards at a cost of close to 25k because they removed everything. The termite damage was 29k in 2017 and the subfloors were 47k in 2022. The new floors started to come up and the baseboards are popping off. The floors have hills and valleys. There are cracks in the walls. I could go on and on. I have called multiple times and they come out and more damage is done. The first part of May I had a new kitchen put in. The carpenters could not get the cabinets level so they went under the house to find out why. They came back with HORRIBLE pictures and could not continue till Cantey came back out. The amount of damage they did under this house is unimaginable. I had no way of knowing anything was wrong because I can't get under the house. I hired a home inspector to do a complete home inspection. IT FAILED. I then had another company out for an estimate for repairs and the estimate was right at 50K. I pulled the building permits and the "repairs" in 2017 FAILED. The repairs in 2022 were not inspected. I contacted the state LLR and they can not get involved because they can only go 12 months back.Business response

I am rejecting this response because: There is to much damage under the house for it to be repaired. This house did not pass a home inspection because of the damage still under this house. The home inspection was done on May 1st 2024 . I do not trust Cantey to do anything else to this house. I have no faith they are able to do any repair work on this house. They have been here since 2017 and each time work has been done it has made the house worse. The floors have been over elevated causing hills and valleys and the jacks used are not or no longer allowed by building standards. The surface floors are popping up and baseboards are coming off the walls due to the shoddy work that has been done. I do not trust Cantey or have any faith they can do a quality job. 8/3/2023.

In January of 2023 I contacted Ryan Way concerning problems I was seeing with baseboards popping loose from the walls. Also, my kitchen stove could not be kept level. It wobbled regardless of what it was doing or by adjusting the legs. Also, a crack under a window.
Ryan W** came and inspected and said he thought the house might be settling and said the moisture level was good. He came back 3 months later to see if anything else was going on and checked the moisture again. He said it was dry and the moisture level was good.
On August 2, Chase L****** came out because I had a complaint about my new laminate floors separating and included pictures of the area. He went under the house to inspect it. When he started talking his first words were it is not good, the wood is as bad now as it was before if not worse. He insisted on trying to sell encapsulation and a dehumidifier. He claimed the water barrier that was installed needed to be replaced. Now mind you it had just been done a few years before. He claimed if I don’t do this all the money I have spent will be wasted because it is all bad under there. Also, everything under the house had been removed down to the dirt, I have pics that show the ground, meaning a new water barrier was put down or put back.
According to Chase L****** the wood is in horrible condition now and all this work needs to be done. Where is the warranty? If the wood is as he said it must be replaced which is going to include the laminate throughout the house because the sub floor is popping it up.
Chase L****** wanted to blame the old water barrier (only 2 years old) for the problem but how could that be the problem when it was removed during construction and a new replacement was installed. Can’t blame it on something that no longer exist.

Since,the Upstate has been experiencing an increasing amount of rain in the past couple of years.We noticed that the side and the back of the house were developing POOLS of water.This was concerning to both of us.We tried regrading the lawn "NO GOOD".We even tried to get FLOOD INSURANCE, but we were not ALLOWED. So,we decided to go with a"FRENCH DRAIN" we went with CANTEY from commercials and a friend used them and she said they were good. On Feb. 12, 2024 Kane Taylor came out to our house and did an inspection along with an estimate.CANTEY was to contact 811 and have them come out to mark all the lines (gas,water & utilities).Work began on or around April 1st and took 1 & 1/2 days to complete.We called them and told them that only the gas line was marked.They came out anyway and started. When they came to the side of the house I was there and I saw the crew leader CUT MY PHONE LINE.No we do not use the house phone BUT,we always had a dial tone for emergencies.He also cut a line at my mailbox that was part of the same line.Like the line leading to my house.So it is cut on two ends.WE STILL DO NOT HAVE A DIAL TONE!!!The CREW LEADER made a suggestion to use that we should have a "SUMP-PUMP" installed since we had so much water pooling on the side of the house.And if the pump didn’t work the drain would still work NOPE. We also went with the EVERLAST DRAIN (20 year warranty).So we get a rain and we are out of town we figured the drains worked GREAT NOPE THEY DID NOT. Neighbors told us about the pooling.The next rain the OUTLET OUTSIDE IS FLASHING I HAVE TO OPEN IT IN THE STORM TO RESET IT FOR IT TO WORK AND I HAVE TO DO THIS CONSTANTLY.Now it’s a fire hazard.My dad who is an electrical mechanical engineer said there’s moisture in the outlet and it’s not safe. I’ve told them called them texted them.But no one gives a crap about it.When the drain was installed on one side there’s a LUMP where it was flat now my mower get stuck.I have more but I’m out of room.Business response

Yes, I need them to know that they NEED TO ONLY TALK TO ME NOT MY PARTNER **** ** *****. He is dealing with some neurological/brain issues and he has been seen by a neurologist in Greenville and is now being seen by doctors at MUSC and in September he has an appointment at DUKE. I have asked them NOT TO but they still do. PLEASE MAKE SURE THAT THEY DO NOT CALL ****, he will get upset confused and it will just make it harder for me and my sister who will be staying while I am in Charleston.
They can call TOMORROW BETWEEN 9:00 AND 11:00AM, but after that I will be driving and will not answer the phone.
Tomorrow I leave for MUSC for my neurological appointment followed by my injections for migraines. I had emergency brain surgery 10 years ago when three (3) subarachnoid aneurysms ruptured simultaneously. I will return Friday afternoon around 4:00.

It’s 4:30pm and Cantey said earlier in the week after I sent this to the BBB that someone would be here today to REDO/REPAIR/FIX/RELOCATE or whatever, BUT PER USUAL ON THEIR END. I did NOT RECEIVE ANYTHING TELLING ME ANY DIFFERENT. So I changed ALL OF MY PLANS FOR TODAY TO ACCOMMODATE THEM AS USUAL. This is what they do to me and I am SICK OF IT. I have been more than lenient with them. I will not lie they had us try to do the leg work about the phone line and we couldn’t find out who had it. They tried to repair it themselves but TELEPHONE LINE/WIRE PEOPLE THEY ARE NOT. So, initially we were going to let it slide. But with ****’s health the way it is and with T-Mobile service on my side of the street iffy during a storm I need that line, which we had before they cut it, for emergencies. As you know you don’t have to have a paying phone line but a dial tone will let you get 911 for emergencies and we had that before and I want that NO I need that again. I’m not asking for anything that I did not have BEFORE THEY WERE HERE.

This is my Third attempt to contact you. I stated yesterday morning after I received the letter from you stating that CANTEY wanted to discuss what they were going to do TODAY (Thursday). First I personally think any company/business should give the consumer more than 24 hours notice as to when they want to discuss options. Lord knows I tried for weeks and they did not care. Be that as it may I digress. I am leaving in about 1.5 hours to go to Charleston, SC for my neurological appointments and I will return around 4:00 pm on Friday and I do not want to be talking while I am driving. Nor do I want **** to handle this because he is not able to do so because he is having some brain issues and I might have to take him to DUKE if MUSC can’t figure it out. **** can not do the call because he has good days and bad days and if you catch him he might say it’s all working fine when it’s not. I have someone watching over him while I am away. But anyway what I am saying is I AM WILLING TO DISCUSS SOLVING THE ISSUES WITH THEM BUT I CAN NOT DO IT TODAY.

Purchase Date: August 25, 2022 Services Purchased: Rim Joist Repair, Gutter System Total Cost for Job: $15,349. Gutter Cost: $10,000 Had Gutters installed in September of 22 Initial Crew Installed the gutter system incorrectly, Leaks, downspout parallel to foundation, my 23 year old gutters never had issues 100s of sheet metal screws/sharp metal pieces around house Again, Gutters continued to leak escalate put in contact with Luke McNair, he came out once to review, saw the issues needed. Repaired again Gutters started leaking, Luke was unreachable - he was no longer with Cantey Original install crew was also not with Cantey We have had Cantey to our house 5 times to repair. This gets escalated to a manager; arrives and sees the that the front needs to be pulled down and reinstalled Original crew had not stopped water from leaking into second story window; I will need to replace now they had not screwed in the appropriate section - this was finally fixed on 8/5/24 Original crew removed facia board on front of house, with Cantey 'not knowing why'. we are waiting on a 'special' tool to resolve 8/5/24 Cantey finally removes and reinstalls gutters in front of house. This new install leaks again. Everyone we have talked to is very nice, for the expense of this install, paid in cash, we should not need the company out here five times. New Re-install is leaking the day they left. 'working' with a manager, and am now getting 'we offered you another downspout'. This would exit the water through a flower bed and run down the sidewalk to my entryway. They should not be selling gutter systems, as they do not work, get installed properly, or remediated. Leaking window is specifically called out in contract, the frame is now destroyed Only wanted the back of the house done, Jan explained we should replace the front. so we did. Nightmare. I am rejecting this response because: Per BBB rules, i must within 5 days since contact.
team came out on the 10th as planned. walked around the house, showing the issues - they saw what i was needing and agreed.
being in the South, the heat was already at 100 degrees, with extreme heat warning stating the heat continuing to go up.
Being nice, i explained they could come back when it was not as hot, to which they were thankful, and was told by the installer they would be here today, August 12th.
I was here at my house, and did talk to the crew. Somehow reported back that i was not here, when i talked to Alberto and another gentleman
Currently rescheduled for this coming Saturday the 17th.
I will make my updates after they come back, and this is completed to our satisfaction
Not sure what the communication issues are at Cantey. Everyone has been nice that i have dealt with, there is just a break down between install crews and management.
I want to be able to give a positive review, but this work must be completed.

I met with Sullivan B***, a Salesman and Representative of Cantey Foundation Specialist on July 3rd, 2024 at my residential home in Charlotte, NC. A Contract Proposal was drawn up by Mr. B***, and required a $1,200.00 Cash Deposit. During the initial meeting, Mr. B*** did not explain the "Cancellation Policy" with his company. The main reasons for cancelling the proposed contract was two CRITICAL AREAS in my home, which were NOT included to be waterproofed by Cantey Foundation Specialist. I submitted two Emails regarding this oversight to Mr. B*** and his designated Site Coordinator; Mark Scott, which conveyed the message that I was cancelling the proposed contract. I CANCELLED WITHIN THREE BUSINESS DAYS, INCLUDING THE JULY 4th, Holiday. I also phoned the Charlotte, NC Office and left a message. Please investigate my complaint. Thank You.Business response

A refund for the full deposit is being returned. Our RM in Chlt sent an email and left a voice mail for the customer. Checks are cut and mailed on Friday so they should expect to receive the refund the first part of next week. We apologize for any misunderstanding on our end. Thank you.

Cantey was hired to help with some foundation settling and to help mitigate water that was collecting in the crawl space. Bo, the sales agent came out and worked up a proposal to help solve several issues with leveling inside the home and for the water mitigation. The original crew came out and completed the work, or so I was advised. A few months another contractor was hired to help run a gas line and advised me that there was pooling water. It was later found out that the second of two sump pumps has been placed, but the electrical contractor they hired did not run a line to is, resulting in the pooling water. Additionally, a service door they replaced was found to be faulty. Dustin from Cantey came out to address the issues. They claimed that the work they did was up to far and that it was the electrical contractor who was sent out that failed. I rebutted that they hired them, not me, and therefore they were responsible for auditing that work, which was never completed. During this time I also shared about the indoor leveling issues and Dustin admitted the support beams were not placed correctly. A new crew was sent out to re-work the access door and level issues as well as verify the pump was working. This firm was rather confrontational to work with as well, Dusitn criticized the access door, not realizing his firm installed it, he had to be shown by me they had done that work. They advised me additional visits were going to be needed and that the leveling would take time. It has now been two years. Alex from their team has been out twice, and each time we have spoken about the poor results inside. On the last trip a few months back he stated that he would not have ran the beams as they were and would work with Dustin to figure out a solution, I have not heard back since. This repair is not been completed, the indoor leaving appears to be worse now then when we started and this firm does not seem intent to help.Business response

We have yet to meet to receive the matter, as 5 days is less than the date the RM is scheduled to meet, I advise we retain the open status until that meeting.
This system seems limited in that I al neither accepting or rejecting the effort, simply not ready to close the files until actions are completed.

11 May 2024 I contracted with Cantey to repair cracks in my driveway and garage floor. When they completed the job the cracks had been dramatically enlarged, and NOT repaired./filled. They responded by telling me there was a misunderstanding in the expected result. My understanding was that I hired them to fill in/ remove cracks in the flooring…..not increase the size of the cracks. I’m requesting either a refund or a resurfacing of my garage floor. I spoke with the concrete division manager Chase and he informed me that he met with the customer on Wednesday and that Cantey is refunding him 10% of the job cost. The check was sent out on Friday May 17th. Please let me know if I can be of any other assistance.
