On 7/27/23, The Gutter Gorilla came to my home and provided a recommendation for gutter installation, including where on the home gutters were needed. I accepted all of The Gutter Gorilla's recommendations and agreed to their quote price of $3,163. On August 16, 2023 The Gutter Gorilla installed gutters on my home. On September 15, 2023 I had a home inspection. The home inspection report, received on 9/28/23, noted deficiencies in the gutter installation, specifically 1) The roof gutters were installed without proper clearance at the ends from the fibercement siding and 2) Downspout for upper roof gutter discharged directly onto the asphalt shingle surfaces, which the inspector noted is not permitted by most shingle manufactures per GAF Technical Bulletin. In addition, the inspector noted that while discharging gutter downspouts on to metal roof coverings, does not cause roof leaks, the erosion and degradation of asphalt shingle roof coverings from direct downspout discharge is a violation of IRC Section 904.2. I contacted Erika, who told me she was the owner of the Gutter Gorilla on 10/10/23, by phone. I shared the inspection findings and I told her I could email her the inspection results. She provided her email address and told me The Gutter Gorilla would be in touch. I emailed the information on 10/10/23 to the email address she provided and have not received any follow up from The Gutter Gorilla.

      To Whom it May Concern:

We have reviewed the information that Ms. ***** submitted and reached out to the inspection company.  After a somewhat detailed conversation with Bob it became clear that he was actually a friend of the family.  The modifications that he passed on were actually not gutter recommendations, but those of the siding manufacturer.  William, did pose a concern to Bob regarding the flashing and if we cut the gutter back per his recommendation water could go behind the gutter.  Bob didn’t anticipate that happening and asked us to go ahead with his recommendations.
A couple of days later we let Ms. ***** know that we have spoken to the inspection company and can follow his recommendations and that we would take care of the adjustments in the next couple of weeks.
On 12/07/2023 we are completing this service to the inspector’s recommendations and against our recommendations and standard installation procedure.  The gutters are being cut back.  Prior to this service the gutters are functioning properly without concern.  Customer has been notified that performance issues as a result of this change will not be warrantied without cost.
I believe this will take care of your concerns, but if you have any further questions, please let me know.

      Sincerely,
      Erika F*****

      Customer response

      12/12/2023

I’ve heard from the business and they state that they made the changes the licensed South Carolina home inspector and structural engineer identified. However, I would like the complaint to remain open until the follow up inspection, when we can verify that the issues have been resolved.
