My husband and I are seniors (he is in failing health}. We have moved home three times in the past 2 years to accommodate his needs, each time using the company Senior Transitions. The first two moves went well so we arranged for our third and final move in March of 2022. The company quoted us $50 per hour and arrangements were made for the move. Before work began, **** (Their manager) asked for a deposit of ***** dollars (which was double what we had paid before) when I asked why it was so much, **** told me that it was just policy and besides, we would be getting our deposit back. Hope and another women arrived on March 30th and worked for 5 hours. The following day the same workers worked for 8 hours. Total hours worked was 13 hours. (13 hours at 50 dollars per hour is 850 dollars}. The cheque made out to Senior Transitions was from Austin Telco dated March 30th, 2022. cheque number ****. When completed, I asked **** for my deposit back and waited while she phoned ****. {the owner). Hope seemed excited for me telling me I should get a sizeable amount back. they talked for a few minutes and then **** told me that the owner said we didn't get any deposit back as they had used their own "boxes" to move us and that took all of our deposit. I need to say that **** looked very uncomfortable as she told me this. I was so stunned that I couldn't speak. **** then reminded me that she only asked us for ***** deposit but that I gave her *****. I asked her why she didn't ask me to change the amount and she just shrugged her shoulders. My husband is very ill and needs round the clock care. I am his sole caregiver. I've waited this long hoping that the owner would have a shame attack and return my deposit. This is unjust and unfair to steal from 80 year olds. The owner originally told me that she loved working with seniors. At that time, I thought how nice that was. Now I want to tell all seniors to beware of this business.Business response

Business response to complaint:
We have moved ******* and *********************** three times within two years.
For their last move, we met with them in March, 2022. We discussed the time it will take to pack, unpack, and set up their new space. We estimated their move would be around $2600. ****** signed the contract dated March 25th, 2022, agreeing to $70 an hour, plus drivetime, and supplies costs.
On the pack day, ****** accidentally wrote a $2000 deposit, rather than a $1000. When we caught it, we explained that this deposit goes toward her balance due when the move is completed.
The final bill totaled $2185.00. We had two staff members work 14 hours each at $70 an hour, plus the supplies cost of $125.00, and a drivetime totaling $100. She had a balance due of $185. We told ****** to not worry about the $185 since she is a repeat customer.
Hope, our team lead, did get excited for ****** simply because her final bill was $600 less than what was estimated.
We have an extraordinary reputation as being an honest, caring business that takes pride in our work with seniors.
Thank you,
