I am writing this review to warn others that *** have their homeowners or renters insurance through this company. More than eight weeks ago, gigantic perfectly healthy, three-story high pine tree fell on our house, crushing one entire room, an upper deck. And roofing. Weve been paying this insurance company for over 20 years and not made a single claim when we made this claim instead of an adjuster they sent out a contractor with a contracting company who came with contracts that he wanted us to sign so they could do the work Before they even knew what the work was going to be this contractor promised to help move the pool table that was in the way to help pay for the packing material to help pay for a place for us to move all of the items that needed to be moved in order to repair the room He was very helpful until we informed him that we had our own contractor and everything changed. We had to wait for them to send out an adjuster and wait for an engineer he told us that it would take 2 to 3 weeks for him to draw plans. Meanwhile, we have huge holes in our roof , no one has offered to help with anything. We had to rip off the roof rip off the walls and underneath the ceiling so the engineer could look at the damage. This is all in my backyard in the middle of the summer. They have an offer to get a dumpster they have an offer to buy a tarp to put over the holes. They have an offer to repay us for the contractor that we had come out to rip off the ceiling that they needed to have ripped off . IWere going on eight weeks now and not one thing has been done. Their website they state it is a quick stress free process- its a flat lie! *********************Bear River Mutual Insurance Company Response

Thank you for your inquiry on behalf of our customer's son, ********************* regarding a claim for damage to her home in *****, ****, reported as caused by a fallen tree. The date of loss was reported as 06/25/2024. I have reviewed the claim and am happy to respond. First, let me express our intent to investigate and provide coverage for all damages covered under the policy. We appreciate the cooperation of **************** as we sought coverage for their damage and investigated their claim. ****************' mother is a valued customer of Bear *********************************************. We find that the claim reflects timely response to the claim report, inspection and consideration of all evidence and opinions presented as the coverage investigation progressed. This claim was reported on 6/25/2024. Bear River Mutual attempted to contact **************** on 6/25/2024 and 6/26/2024. A representative of Bear River Mutual spoke with **************** on 7/8/204. A Senior Property Claims Adjuster inspected the home on 7/9/2024. Due to the extensive damage from the fallen tree, it was determined that an engineer was needed to detail the repairs needed to indemnify the dwelling. CKR Engineering has not yet completed their report. Our Senior Property Claims Adjuster has followed up with CKR several times requesting their report. He will continue his efforts to obtain their report and will then write an estimate of repairs to indemnity the property to its preloss condition. Engineering is a crucial step to ensure the home is repair to a structural standard that aligns with todays building code. We too are anxious to move forward with repairs as soon as feasibly possible and will work with the Hommes family to conclusion of their claim. If you have any additional questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to me directly.Review from Chad G

Got insured through them, they cancelled the insurance a couple weeks later because of an open accident claim from several years ago with another where I was not at fault legally or in the other insurance company's records. I provided a letter of experience from the insurance company I was with, but they cancelled regardless because the claim is open (regardless of it not being at fault for me). Sketchy business practices bordering on illegalReview from Lindsey C

Bear River provides a service that is great at a low cost UNTIL you have a claim to file with them. We are still working through a personal property claim on a house fire a year past the date of a fire. The contents company they hired on our behalf was expensive and provided a low quality of work. Upon receiving our contents inventory back from insurance we found a HUGE margin on error on quantity times the payout ACV. This is unacceptable and we have spent COUNTLESS hours doing revisions to submit for further compensation.Bear River Mutual Insurance Company Response

From our Adjuster - "The claim was extensive and included not just one policy, but the policies of two households. Together there were over ***** items determined to be non-salvageable. To inventory each and every item as well as gather information on pricing, ages and other details is bound to take time. The inventory was performed by a trusted company with whom we have never had any concerns raised. We did not see anything in prior emails where there were any issues mentioned until the complaint was filed. The pricing for the type of work performed is in line with industry standard. It is a specialty type of construction that few companies provide.Regarding the concern with error of the quantities of items, this is the first we have heard of it. We are working with the appraisal company to re-review the original documentation provided and compare to the final list. Once it has been reviewed we would be happy to discuss and correct any discrepancies in quantity.Review from Jeannette B

I filed a claim on my roof, I live in *********** and we got hit in June with a crazy hail storm. The roofer I had come out used a drone and sent the info to EagleView. EagleView produced a report showing many areas throughout the roof identified as hail damage. When I filed my claim, I submitted that report. When the adjuster contacted me, he said he wanted to bring out a roofer. He and the roofer were up there 15 minutes and came back down to tell me that there was no or little hail damage and that his roofer could replace my missing shingle and whatnot for $350. Is this for real??? I have a hail damaged roof with winter coming and an adjuster that is working for and with roofers??? To turn down my claim and then offer up services from his roofer. Seemed shady. When I asked about the hail damage I had seen on the report, he told me that he has not looked at the report I sent in!!! When he started looking at the report on his phone, he decided they needed to go back up there. So what did they look at the first go around or did they just go to to glance around because he had already decided to turn down the claim? Then as he was leaving, he said he needs to review the report and might need to come back out but he does not see hail damage and they needed to leave because they had another appointment. So this insurance adjuster is bringing along a roofer to his inspections and getting him work instead of really doing his own job and reviewing info submitted and taking a good look at things. Sounds like his job is to turn down claims and shut the customer up by getting his roofer to just bandaid things. Claim filed - 10/13/23. #******* I have had insurance with them 6 1/2 years home and auto with 0 claims so when I have a claim and submit info to back it, I expect that it would be taken seriously. Waiting to see what happens to see if I need to shop insurance and let my friend know to do the same. I have seen bad reviews, hoping they are wrong.Bear River Mutual Insurance Company Response

We have reviewed the complaint filed by our customer and appreciate the opportunity to respond. Our Property Field Claims Adjuster was assigned to inspect and address the damage caused by the hail event of 6/3/2023. The Property Field Claims Adjuster performed an inspection of ****************** roof on 10/17/2023. The Adjuster identified and documented significant damage consistent with wear and tear to ****************** 23-year-old roof. No hail induced damage was identified to ****************** roof. Our Adjuster had asked a local roofer to accompany him on his inspection. The local roofer had agreed with the Adjusters assessment. The Claims Adjuster and the local roofer then dismounted the roof and reported their inspection findings to ****************. She then asked the Adjuster if he had considered the drone report completed by her roofer and forwarded to the Adjuster on Friday, 10/13. He retrieved the roofers report from his phone and mounted ****************** roof a second time to address the specific marks identified by the roofers drone report as hail induced damage. The Adjuster inspected and felt the spots on the shingles shown by the Roofers drone report as damaged by hail strikes. He correctly identified these areas of missing graduals as damage consistent with wear and tear. Certain Bear River Claims Adjusters have been licensed to operates drones for the purpose of identifying damage claimed by our customers to their roofs. Our drone uses artificial intelligence to identify possible hail and wind damage. The artificial intelligence used by many drones have setting that can be adjusted by the end user to identify all irregularities or only marks that can be confidently identified as either hail or wind induced damage. The artificial intelligence also learn from the identification of prior hail or wind damage by the user would operates the specific drone. Artificial Intelligence does not replace the need for skilled and properly professionals to inspect and identify damage. The Claims Manager has since reached out to **************** to address her concerns listed in her complaint. He has offered to pay for an engineer to provide an additional inspection and provide a detailed report of his findings. Bear River will rely on his expertise and base our decision on his recommendations. Please contact us if you have any questions regarding our response. Thanks,Review from Taylor P

I've been with Bear River for almost 15 years and they've been fantastic! I know this year everyone has taken significant rate increases, Bear River included, but when shopping it out, they still came out on top. We've had a couple of claims with them and have not had any complaints. One time, we got the payment approved in full the same day! I'm so glad I've entrusted my home and car insurance to be with a great company!Review from Ruthie P

So disappointed Bear River raised my rate over $300 due to "inflation". No accidents or claims an an older driver and no explanation other that "inflation". Inflation rate was 11% not 30% it's really just corporate greed. Stop putting corporate earnings over customers and care about and communicate with them.Bear River Mutual Insurance Company Response

Bear River Mutual Insurance has implemented a rate increase across all policies for all insureds to help offset inflation costs. As the cost to repair vehicles and homes has increased significantly, we have had to make these changes to ensure we are still able to help provide the coverage promised by our policy. We encourage **** to reach out to her current agent to discuss any potential cost saving adjustments she might be able to make to her current policy.Review from Ryan H

Beware of doing business with ********************* Bear River Mutual in ************* (uness you can afford 50% premium increases each year!). Rates go up every year for home and auto, but ****** in one year is over the top for anyone and far beyond the national average of 15% -20% increases. ****** average increase this year was 17% We have had no claims or changes to our policies. Our home and cars are paid for. Our credit rating is 830. They increased our premiums 53% in one year (from 2022- 2023)! That is higher than any state including ****** at a 40% increase.Review from Michael G

We were in the 2023 catastrophic ****** hail storm. Our house got damaged all over the roof and the front face. The trim, vinyl, windows and cars got damaged. We filed a claim the next day. The adjuster ************ didn't call us until 19 days later (phone records). They sent out *** with Intermountain Claims who we were told, has a well established reputation among contractors as being dishonest and underbids actual cost values on claims. Sure enough he underbid our cost of damages by almost 50% less of several contractor bids and left several damaged items out of his estimate. Bear River only wants to cover the front shingles on our roof, completely disregarding the evidence of damage on the rear, especially the rear west slope that has matching damages with the front west slopes. We have an ITEL report that our shingles are discontinued and that Bear Rivers position to only cover the front roof would violate several codes including R908.5, R903.1 and manufactures requirements to have overlaps in underlayment requiring removal of old shingles which cannot be reinstalled according to **** code. This would also violate rule ********** creating an unreasonable and non-uniform appearance devaluing our house. From the get go they have treated us like criminals and do not act in good faith. As of today we have been fighting with them for 43 days and have zero repairs or replacements. Our agent *** is not calling us back despite numerous attempts with the office. We are uploading a ******* video review documentary of this deplorable experience so be sure to check it out. The channel name is "MakeItMike"Bear River Mutual Insurance Company Response

On September 7th the Bear River Mutual Insurance Adjuster send ********************************* an email advising him that we would be covering the cost of the estimate that was included with the email. We believe this will cover all of the roof damage that ******* requested. The adjuster asked ******* to let us know if he had other concerns. We have not heard back from him yet.Review from Christian A

Absolute dishonest company they have an adjuster named ***************** that is paid to deny claims. He gets a commission Based on saving loss ratios. They said he was coming out to at a specific time then have a different company that wasnt him show up that obviously are on their payroll. Because every other contractor giving us bids were 2x higher. And of course why they bid was less than my deductible. They are cheap insurance for a reason, so rude and not helpful. I will never do business with them again!!!! Run as fast as you can!Bear River Mutual Insurance Company Response

Unfortunately, we do not have enough information from the comment section to determine what policy or claim they are referring to. We are more than happy to look into this matter if we are provided with the claim number referenced. The policy number or name of the primary insured will also work. Thank you.
