Contracted to build a garage April. Gave the company $****. Was told the job would begin late summer. All materials were available. When asked for a time frame all we got were excuses. Finally got a rude email saying if we couldn’t be patient we could pick another builder. Company tried to have the permit voided. County would not allow. All I got was **** trusses and *** permit. Charged me **** for 2 visits to my house and office fees. I asked for **** back which left them **** for their time which I thought was fair. Have not received a dime back. Will seek arbitration to recover ****. Still willing to take ****. I have a copy of the ride email.

      BBB Case#: ******** – Outdoor Building Concepts
      Customer: Adam ******

      To Whom it May Concern:

There was a contract signed in April 2022, to build a garage for the above customer, Mr. ******. This contract offers a 72 hour period to cancel, from the date of signing.
After meeting with Mr. ******, we did inform him, in many ways of communication, via text message and verbally, that the garage would not begin late summer, as he states.  We had just started on building a garage with an attached car port and screened porch in the city of Richmond, for a customer who had been on schedule pre Covid pandemic.  Plus any other additional contracts we had going on at the time.  I have these messages saved on my phone.
Mr. ****** paid $7000, please see my invoice attached.  The invoice is itemized, per the request of Mr. ******.   All material had been ordered but were not available nor was the material delivered to the job site.
Mr. ****** continued to question a time frame for his project.  We explained that we are gathering all the information needed and getting with the subcontractors.  Even though we were not able to start his project immediately, we feel we continued to do our due diligence throughout this process and tried to have everything lined up and ready, for when we were able to start.  Mr. ******’s constant comparison of us to his friend and neighbors, who were having a garage built also, didn’t understand that we will get to that point, but there is a process and the turnaround time for certain things, can be longer than we were used to.  There was no satisfying the client.  His accusation of us trying to have the permits voided, is not accurate.  The county supported our request to not release the permit until the new builder submitted his own plans and drawings, in his name.  We simply did not want another business working under our permit on Mr. ******’s garage.  This is documented in the county records.
Mr. ****** constantly questioned and compared my business to the builder performing work on his neighbor’s garage.  He told me, via text message, the neighbor had his permit in 2 weeks, and he questioned me as to why his permit was taking so long.  I’m not sure if the rush was to have a garage before his neighbor, but I do know my reply email was to only inform him that if he was more satisfied with the neighbor’s builder, maybe he should talk with them about building his garage.

The $**** in material that Mr. ****** has, is a great start for his new builder.  We did all the processing, submitting, scheduling to only have to then turn around and return and cancel items that had been ordered.  We spent numerous office hours searching for a garage door to match the existing garage door, per the HOA demands.  Mr. ****** feels the $**** is for only 2 visits to his home.  The contractor on site, many times.  First we had to meet regarding the tree removal.  Next was to prep the site to level the ground and get it ready for construction.  Then poured foundation, which during this time, the homeowner, Mr. ****** was still living in New Jersey.  The contractor then met with Mr. ****** to discuss all the details and Mr. ****** informed the contractor, of how much the job should cost, and talked down the price.
I believe, we at Outdoor Building Concepts, did everything we could to keep Mr. ****** informed. Unfortunately, we couldn’t please Mr. ****** in any effort we tried.  His constant questioning, comparisons and now this.  We feel that allowing Mr. ****** to breech the contract 4 months later, should suffice enough and we can call this job complete!

      Better Business Bureau:

I have reviewed the offer and/or response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.

This response was full of untruths. I mentioned my neighbor once. I received no invoice for the trusses so I have no idea what they paid. There were no attempts made by the builder to get the job underway. When I did confront the company I got the nasty response which I attached. They knew they had my money and made every attempt to get me to move on. A shameful tactic. I continue to request a very fair $**** to close the matter. I will pursue  full redemption in court if necessary. Builders are taking advantage of customers in this post Covid climate. I refuse to have my money stolen.

      Adam and Susan ******

      Adam ******
