Jarrett Towing was called by Augusta County law enforcement to come tow a '96 toyota Camry from ** ***** **** ** ********* My boyfriend had my vehicle he had a capias. He had his license revoked. He was only two driveways from my home. I immediately called Jarrett's Towing to find out what I need to do to get my car back. I needed a release form from Augusta County Clerk's office, I went there and they said we don't do that anymore. The tow company did not have to hold the car for 30 days, unless it was a drug investagtion. I called Jarret's towing, and told him this. I was informed that I needed something from the clerk's office in writing. And I said "okay, How much is the bill?" He said $650 plus the tow charge. I asked him, why so much? He only had the car few a hours. His said it was $250 impound fee since a law enforcement called in in. And that he makes $75 an hour. So I told him I couldn't afford that kind of money. The car wasn't worth it that. I would just come get my personal belongings and my tags and he can keep the car. He then told me that I needed to bring the title to the vehicle, sign it over to him, and $75. Then he would let me have my tags and personal belongings. i asked him what's the $75? He said it is to open the gate because that is services rendered and he made $75 an hour. Then I told him that was outrageous! I called the Grottoes Police Department and spoke to the on duty officer. And I asked him if it was legal for Jarrett's to keep my DMV issued tags and my personal stuff? The police officer said that the towing companies are a jurisdiction onto their own and they could do what they want and set whatever prices they want. And there wasnt anything he could do about it. According to Virginia code 46. 2 - 118 Jarrett's Towing has broken the law.Business response

This complaint which was just submitted on 02/13/2024 was from a law enforcement directed impound that occurred last year on 10/01/2023. The vehicle was placed on a 30 day hold which is done when a repeated offender’s license is revoked due to either a drug or alcohol related offense. The “customer” was jailed after she was caught on camera cutting the fence and illegally entering our storage facility. In our opinion, this complaint is retaliation because this customer is angry. Yet it was her poor decisions that lead to the confiscation of her vehicle and her unlawful actions that led to jail time. It is our hopes and prayers that she and her boyfriend get their lives straightened out.Customer response

I have reviewed the response offer made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below. The personal property that was inside of my car. The car is being held at their business lot, the owner now has a lien on the title, however, they can't do anything with the car until after 3/27/23. There is assorted powers tools, hand tools, lumber equipment, and mechanic tools inside the car. This is the whole reason I submitted the complaint to the BBB in the first place, because they refused to give me my stuff. According to Va code 46.2-118 section 19 they can not legally keep my items. Thank youBusiness response

The police called us for the tow. We offered her 2 opportunities to come get the car or her stuff. She didn't want the car so she could have brought the title to the car or come get anything in the car but there was a labor cost for me to send an employee to the lot to open the gate. She didn't want to pay the labor cost so she was caught cutting the fence and breaking into the lot. The DMV mailed them a notice and gave them a date of 11/9/2023 to get the stuff. Augusta County Police took an inventory of everything in the car, we don't go through them. Never saw any tools in the car.
