I would advise steering well clear of Service Hydronic (formerly Northwest Hydronics) for any installation or service! The operator of this business was originally with NW Hydronic Heating in ******* (2.5 stars on Yelp, now out of business). He is now operating as Service Hydronic in *******, **, but using the same phone number that was listed for NW Hydronic Heating. After buying a home on ******, our hot water heater started making a lot of noise, and as it also supplies our in-floor radiant heating, we figured we better get it looked at. We called Service Hydronic because the former owner of our house said he had installed the system. My wife called him and he responded fairly quickly, letting her know he could come by the next day to assess it because he was going to be on ************* anyway. He did quickly identify the problem as being the power vent blower motor, but said the water heater should be replaced as well. I asked him about some of the other equipment serving the in-floor heating and he seemed confused by its setup. He said it must have been installed by a former partner of his. He checked the blower for debris, but it continued to make a lot of noise and he said we needed to replace the system right away because it could fail at any minute. We thanked him for his time, and he said no problem, because he was going to be on the island anyway. All seemed well until we heard back from him, giving us a quote of $6300 (!) to install a new replacement water heater (with factory installed new blower). I was shocked by the number and did an internet search for our **************************************************. That model was discontinued, but prices for the improved replacement, BW RG2PDV75H6N, ranged from $2127 to $2870, retail price. When I asked about this, he told me he must put a markup on equipment he sells. And he must load the equipment on the truck and take the ferry to ******. So, $6300 to install a $2500 water heater! We asked him about just replacing the blower and he said he couldnt find one, and it wouldnt be worth it because the water heater could fail at any time. While thinking that over, we received his **** for $346.75 for the initial visit! That included a previously undisclosed $169 service charge for taking the ferry to ******, after telling us he was going to be on the island anyway! He disclosed to my wife during that first visit that he was on the island to go on a date. Not too bad for him; $21 to cover the ferry, and $148 to spend on his date, plus $150 for less than an hour of his time. When I asked him to waive the $169 travel fee, he got mad and started yelling at me.So how does this story end? We had another contractor over to look at it, and this contractor identified it as a bad bearing in the blower motor, which he said would not fail immediately, but would continue to make noise. He said the water heater, although technically near end of life, was in good condition and should provide a few more years of service. We went online together and found a replacement blower motor for $412 tax and delivery included. I ordered that part and and he said he would come install it for $125. So $565 installed.
