      ******************, sole proprietor of McKean Flooring, gave us a verbal quote to refinish our wood floors based on square footage, and asked for a deposit. We gave him $900 deposit on April 28th, 2024, to do the work. We did not sign a contract. As we got closer to the agreed date (week of August 5th) we tried to contact him because we were worried about the condition of the floor. We were cut off during our conversation and then we subsequently found out that his phone had been disconnected. Via email, we communicated that we had changed our mind about refinishing the floor and requested our deposit back. After initially responding to the email, he has not responded to our efforts to have him return our deposit.

      We contracted with ***** on Feb 13, 2024 for polyaspartic coating on our garage floor. He gave us a bid of $4,200 + tax. He told us he needed a 50% deposit immediately so he could order materials, so we paid him $2,800 via Venmo on 2/13/24. We offered a 7 day span to have the service done, and he scheduled to come out to the work on 2/22/24. Since this is our vacation home, it required a special trip by us via air for this service with ***** and another contractor. On 2/21/24, the night before the appointment, I attempted to confirm with ***** for the next day. He texted to say he was sick and wasn't coming. I offered to extend my trip by three days so that we could get this done. He told me he was "booked up" and couldn't do it. He rescheduled with us for 4/12/24 with a promise that he'd be there. I confirmed this appt 3/25/24 and 4/5/24. On 4/11/24 I tried to confirm our appointment with *****. I received no response to my three texts. ***** finally texted at 5pm on 4/12/24 (the day he was scheduled to do the work) to tell me he was sick again. By this point, I was fed up with him and started researching his reviews only to find several complaints of the same nature (not showing up to do the work), and other customers saying the work he did do was of very poor quality. In addition, I found records of a violent criminal history and no longer felt safe having him at our home. I told ***** that we were done trying to work with him and needed our deposit back. He tried to get me to take the materials he "purchased for our job", but I told him no since I have no way of completing the floor process myself. He told us he would still come out to do the job and blamed me for having a "limited timeframe", instead of taking responsibility for his no shows (twice). I declined his offer based upon his lack of professionalism and negative reviews. He agreed to refund us by 4/27, but that hasn't happened. He now says he doesn't have the money. I don't believe him.

      I'm wondering how long the business has to respond to this complaint.  The business owner still has not provided me with the refund he agreed to on 4/20/24.

      On January 12, 2024 I had a gentleman come to my house and look at my deck. It needs to be refinished. He said he would email me an estimate. A couple of hours later I got an email estimate with a request for down payment. I sent the down payment of $1244. A few hours later I got an estimate from the company who had ACTUALLY come to my house and looked at the deck. I had sent the money to the wrong company. ************************* from McKean flooring had submitted the estimate without looking at the deck. I called him and explained the situation. He agreed to send my money back. I have emailed him several times and am getting no response. He has not returned my money. I have attempted to call but have not been able to connect with him. I really need this money and have done everything I know to do to get it back. Any help is appreciated.

      I requested McKean Flooring to re-finish my garage's concrete floor. McKean flooring requested 60% of the cost ahead of doing the work to order material, which I paid. The work was supposed to start on Tuesday after labor day. However, it only started on Thursday that week as the contractor realized when arriving that he needed a different tool than what he prepared. The contractor then promised to come on Friday at 9am to continue. At 12pm he called to say he'd be here at 2, and at 3:30pm he said he is not coming due to traffic. This is causing a 3+ days delay and inability to use the garage, extended rent of a pod to store the content of the garage, dust and noise.

      Hello,

      Following my complaint with the BBB the business owner has become more responsive and completed the work.  I do not require refund anymore.

      The work, however, was of low quality and I needed another contractor to complete and improve it, at a cost of another $750.

      Moreocer, the way McKean Flooring did the work, damaged my HVAC unit, which cost me $480 to repair (covered by McKean Flooring).  The communication, timeliness and quality of work by McKean Flooring is very poor.
