I bought a car at ******** on October 12, 2022. I paid $2,000 down with 16 payments of $250 each remaining. On the first day the brake lights would not shut off, even with the car turned off, so it started killing the battery. The next day, going through a green light, the car shut off completely in the intersection and I had to put the car in neutral to try and start it again. By the time I got it started the light had turned red, putting me in danger of getting hit, but I got it out of the way. It shut off a couple more times on the way home, and left me afraid to drive it again. When I bought the car, the dealer had said that everything worked on it, but later I discovered that the heater and air conditioner did not work. It became evident that the car was already having too many problems to have to deal with, and who knows how many problems would pop up after that. I was worried and scared about losing all my money and didn't know what to do. People had told me that since I had signed a contract there was nothing I could do. I was never given a copy of the contract. As soon as I could, the following Friday, I got a ride to BBL and gave them the keys and said I didn't want the car, and for them to come get it because it wouldn't start. They said to bring the car in and they would fix it. I told them I didn't want the car anymore because it was too dangerous to drive. We couldn't boost the battery so they picked it up. Since then, my mom has given me a ride to ******** six times, to try to get the owner to at least give me some of my money back and void the contract. The first day they said he was not there. Next he told me he's too busy, to come back another day, and then on that day he was out of the office. Another day I went I was told he was at the hospital. My mom called him and he was rude to her and hung up. Yesterday he said "My lawyer told me I don't have to give you your car or money back", and I can charge you $250, 16 more times".

      Business response

      11/25/2022

We are responding to a complaint made by a customer who purchased a vehicle from ** on 10/12/22.  At the time of the sale the customer refused to test drive the vehicle. We asked him several times to drive the vehicle to make sure it was the right

car for him but he said he just wanted to buy it because he had to make a  trip to ******* that night.  He came into our office about 10 days later and handed us the keys and said he no longer wanted the car because he was having problems with the car.   He did

not have the car with him and said the car was at his house and we would have to tow it.  At this time we offered to fix any problems he was having with the vehicle but he refused the offer stating he didn't want  anything to do with the car any

longer.  He did not ask for a refund at that time he just wanted to be done with the car.  We sent a tow truck to his house to get the vehicle, assuming it was broke down.  However, the vehicle started right up and our employee drove it back to the car lot.

Regarding this customers allegation that he did not receive a copy of his contract, that is absolutely not true.  He was given a copy of every paper he signed.  He was given money to reimburse him for his gas coming to the office.  He was not told that

our lawyer said anything because we never spoke to our attorney about any of this.  This customer does not owe us anything.  Because he said he no longer wanted the car we did a Voluntary Repossession which cancels out any debt on the vehicle.  He did

not come in here six times trying to get any money back.  In conclusion, this person is not being honest with the BBB.

I was late one payment but had been paying extra every month. I had to fix the ac costing approximately $400 and the front end wheel system that was $2000. On oct 28, 2022 I got home around 9pm and went to sleep. I woke up at 6am oct 29, 2022 and the vehicle was gone. My lights were on and my son was awake. There was no towing truck involved but now bbl has sent me a bill for $1551.98 which $600 of it is a towing fee. I almost have the vehicle paid off and only missed one payment of $225. I am a single parent and use my vehicle for work. My work laptop and work key are both in the vehicle along with my print card and my sons football equipment. All of that is expensive gear. I did contact bbl before regarding a late payment and got that in order. Being a single parent with 8 kids and a family member with severe illness -brain and heart issues has taken a toll on my family. BBL could have at least offered to let me get my stuff out of the vehicle but instead has sent me a bill I cannot afford including charging me $54 a day for storage. This is wrong and I paid almost the same amount in repairs that they charged for the vehicle. I also tried to get the vehicle insured through my work but found out through my work insurance it is a salvaged title so I could not insure it through them. BBL did not disclose this and it does not say that on the registration, I believe that would only be disclosed on the title which BBL Autosales still has since I was making payments.
