I have required two tows for a vehicle that was a lemon the day I bought it! AMA customer support was friendly and efficient. ************* was sent both times and both tow truck drivers provided professional services. Thank you to ******* and ***** for your kindness and care.AMA Response

Once again I can see why AMA is not accredited with BBB - they would fail miserably! Called the number to make my insurance payment as they don't let you pay online with a credit card (come on AMA - get with the 21st century!) I can call in and pay with a credit card though except no one will answer my call - again - And when it did sound like someone was going to answer, the call was disconnected. I know they don't care but AMA is going to lose all my insurance business. If I could give less than one star, I would.AMA Response

We greatly appreciate Ms. ******* patience as our insurance team experiences extremely high call volumes. Our advisors are working to help members as quickly as they can, but we understand her frustration. We also appreciate her feedback on our available online services. We reviewed Ms. ******** billing history and confirmed that both her auto and property policies are paid in full and an advisor was able to confirm that with her on September 16.Review from Mesael J

AMA MyPace auto insurance is a joke. I got it hoping to save on premium if you are a low mileage driver. They are not sending out monthly billing statement but only text message and email of your monthly bill. Theres no computation of how they arrive at such amounts and sometimes with extra charge not clearly stated in the contract.AMA Response

Thank you for providing this feedback. As this type of insurance is billed largely based on the number of kilometres the vehicle is driven, the billed amount varies month-to-month. For this reason, and to ensure our policyholders have adequate notice of their next payment amount, we must notify them of their bill electronically rather than by mail. To accommodate this short timeframe, we notify our AMA MyPace customers of their next payment through multiple methods including email, text message, and their MyAMA online account.In addition to the per-kilometre charge, there are fixed monthly costs for things like theft and hail, and an initial sign-up fee. These amounts are included in the policy documents sent with every new and renewing AMA MyPace policy. We understand this could be made more clear and we apologize if there was any confusion around Mr. ******* recent payment amounts. We have since connected with him by email to ensure he has a detailed summary of his last bill. We are also reviewing our processes to provide a better customer experience in the future.Review from Chantell B

I have spent hours on hold trying to get someone in insurance to change our coverage. Why bother having a phone number if no one will answer. At first we got the 'we will call you back' so confirmed my number and waited. No call back. Call again and that option is no longer even available. Waited on hold. Called the local office to no avail - I was told I should come in person instead. I said I could not do that. Then I went online and found where I could ask for changes to my policy. I got an email saying someone would contact me within 8 hours. No contact to this day. Next my husband called, on hold again for an hour until he decided to go down there. AMA, I guess you don't care, but you are going to lose my business. No wonder your rating is so lowReview from Tyson P

I was with AMA for 15+ years. Recently, I changed my checking account to tie into my LOC. This caused and NSF charge for my monthly insurance payment. No courtesy call or a check in for a long term client to make me aware of what had happened. I got a letter in the mail, unfortunately it was delayed due to a re-direct.Some unfortunate events that resulted in some pretty innocent mistakes?After receiving the letter in the mail and realizing what happened, paid the due amount within 24hrs but it was already too little too late. They had cancelled my policy (this current policy has probably been running since 2012ish?) and could not re-open for roughly two weeks because they have guidelines to follow. No way to expediate this, no way to help out a long term customer.I've never been late on a payment. I've never had a claim. I've used AMA for my house, my vehicles, my toys, only to be treated like a *** after a simple mistake. Our business has concluded today, which is extremely unfortunate after almost two decades. I was told my best bet is to go find insurance elsewhere. That was word for word from their manager after a courtesy call to tell me there was nothing they could do for me. She then told me how much courage it took for her to call me and that I should appreciate that, at least. Another manager actually gave me another insurance company to go to, which was much appreciated. I'm disgusted with their business. I admit this was my mistake, but to have zero flexibility for something so innocent is terrible. AMA is not worth your time. You can build a relationship after years and you are still a nobody to them. Find a smaller guy that will treat you like you are somewhat valuable to them. They harass me to renew my membership but can't call me to tell me a payment wasn't received due to a banking change that I was unaware of after not missing a payment for 15+ years? Shame on me for thinking I was a valued customer.AMA Response

We appreciate the opportunity to address this concern.After Mr. ******* payment that was due April 30, 2024 did not clear his account, we sent a registered letter to his address on file, informing him of the missed payment. The letter also clearly indicated his policy would be cancelled in 15 days if we didnt receive his payment. This letter was returned to us marked moved/unknown, so we then contacted **************** by email to advise him of his missed payment and requested that he contact us. Unfortunately, we did not hear back from **************** until June 5, so his policy was cancelled on May 28, 2024. Once cancelled, a policy cant be reinstatedinstead, a new policy must be purchased. **************** was also offered the option to escalate his concerns further within our complaint resolution process, but declined that offer. If he chooses, he would still be welcome to contact us to continue that conversation.Review from Becki K

Do not spend the extra money for drivers education through AMA. One would think that a well known organization like AMA who is known for their roadside assistance and knowledge in the vehicle industry would provide top-notch service and teaching. But that was not our experience. After signing up in February to do lessons we FINALLY finished the required hours at the end of May. I put required in quotation marks as the instructor dropped my son off ***** minutes early each time, so over the 5 appointments we lost almost 2 of the 10 required hours. On top of that there were skills that were over-looked such as hill parking, proper approaches to intersections and right-shoulder checking that were not being done properly. When the instructor told my son he was a good driver and was ready to go for his drivers test, we signed him up to take the test and he lost almost double the allowable points, just on basic stuff that should have been caught by the instructor. Find a different driving school. Save your money. Do not do driving lessons from AMA.AMA Response

Extreme cold of beginning of 2024. Battery they sold me and was still under warranty failed. 96 hour wait for roadside assistance. I ended up paying around $150 to get the battery diagnosed as it had failed. Days later they came to my house, ****** gave me a lecture saying that my mechanic probably didn't know what they were talking about, I asked them a few times to test the battery, their test showed it had failed and was warranty replaceable. Then the driver told me they were doing me a favor accepting the replacement. Fine whatever. Was a crazy time. Still c*** service but I don't need the white glove treatment.A few months later I change banks. EQ Bank. Their Insurance service does not accept EQ bank as a chequing account as it is a hybrid chequing/savings account. There only justification is they don't consider them a chequing account. Every other one of my billers accepts it for direct debit. I ask them to give me some information that I can tell my bank so maybe they can work it out. They stall. Old bank account drained. Auto withdrawl bounces. They send me warning letter about canceling my insurance. I pay them ... THROUGH EQ BANK AS A SELECTED ******... They still aren't interested in helping with resolving this (AMA ONLY) refusal to use my bank. Will accept full payment of premiums by credit card. when I've always paid monthly. What a joke. I even went into their sunridge ******* location and was told they would have a supervisor call me back the following day. Never heard from them again. Its important to us that our members feel that we have their back, so we appreciate receiving feedback to have an opportunity to address it. Our roadside and insurance teams have reached out to ************** to resolve those concerns shared. Our Roadside Assistance team was able to connect with **************. He understood the challenges of extreme cold and had no further concerns regarding his experience with this service. Our Insurance team also contacted ************** to speak specifically about those concerns, and explained that his EQ bank account is a high interest savings account and as part of our agreement with our own financial institution, we can only accept chequing accounts. The refund cheques for both his auto and home policy have been mailed out to the address on file. ************** said he understood and had no further questions.Review from Evelyn B

DO NOT USE AMA FOR ANYTHING....Let me tell you a story about a veteran with a voice disability and needed to get a battery replacement on April 13th. I called to get an AMA Membership from AMA Sunridge *******, I told them I probably needed a new battery and to be sure they brought one with them. My Car had totally died even the keys wouldn't open the door. The AMA driver came and didn't bring the new battery but did give me a boost. I asked him about the battery and he said they were still looking for one for my year and make of vehicle and told me he would be back at 3PM that day to replace it. I waited until 3PM and then he texted me at 5PM saying that they didn't have any batteries and that he was sorry. They charged me $60 extra in charges for that service because my membership only started that day but the boost worked and I was able to use my vehicle that day. The next day which was Sunday I woke up and went to use my vehicle and it didn't start again. I was so mad but I had the drivers number because he had texted me and he said he would get me the battery at Canadian tire and install it for $60 so I thought what the heck its his own time and as long as that is done I will pay him under the table. (I have the text msg's to prove it). So my neighbor had told me to make sure he checks the alternator to ensure that wasn't the problem. When the AMA guy on his own time came over he said he checked and it wasn't the alternator. Today I have the same problem my car wont start and indeed it is the alternator. I called AMA to get a tow. Only to be told I have a basic membership and that the tow would cost more. I knew the tow would cost more but really it was all about upselling and the fact that they didn't evaluate my car properly in the first place they should be charging me additional funds. They has mislead me so much on this I can only see that they are already being dragged through the mud on this BBB review page. STAY AWAY from AMA.AMA Response

Please, Please go with another insurance Company. This Company was the most scummy Insurance company I have ever had and honestly if I could have afforded a lawyer to *** the c*** out of them I would have. Insanely long story over the course of 5+ years but TLDR:I had a loan for a $60,000 car and took it on and off parking insurance for the winter ( it was a nice car and I only drove it in the ************* you have a loan it is REQUIRED you have full insurance if you drive it.Spring time I had requested them to put my car back on full insurance in person.The person who assisted me made an error and gave me BASIC INSURANCE.(I STILL TO THIS DAY DON'T EVEN KNOW HOW THAT IS POSSIBLE ON A CAR WITH A LOAN)I obviously have an accident a short while after that (within the month) and I go to claim my insurance (cause I obviously thought I was on full insurance, they denied because I only had basic).They stole MY documents with my signature on them when I went in person to talk to them about this to try and hide the evidence. They kicked me out and refused to give me my documents (WHICH HAD MY WRITING ON IT AND I HAD BROUGHT IN)A short while later they Emailed the documents to me which were clearly crumpled up and thrown in the trash.An absolute unbelievable experience dealing with them regardless of the outcome. To take documents that I BROUGHT IN and KICK ME OUT without giving me my stuff back is INSANE. And to also not take the fault for messing up and giving me the wrong insurance and basically saying F**k off is just insanity, I obviously was out all the money I put into the car, and also out all the money I paid for FULL INSURANCE UP UNTIL THAT POINT.(Which I have proof of obviously)I have brushed over a lot of other stuff that occurred but I HIGHLY suggest you look elsewhere for insurance. :)AMA Response

Thank you for bringing this to our attention and we regret any confusion ****************** may have experienced. Following the denial of Mr. ******** claim in 2016, we carefully reviewed all the correspondence and transactions related to his insurance policy and determined he knowingly declined to purchase collision and comprehensive insurance for his vehicle. We provided our final decision on the matter by letter on Dec. 1, 2016. At this time ****************** was informed he could engage the dispute resolution service that all insurers put in place as required by the Government of Alberta. He did not partake in these channels to resolve the dispute and we consider this matter concluded.Review from Conrad P

Absolute rip off. Charged $1,647 for Ultimate driver education package (coursework + 10 car sessions). Took online coursework. Forced to wait 3 months for a driver trainer, then got 3 lessons over a 6-week period. ****** scheduling done within 24 h of actual ******* so re-scheduling cost $50 due to insufficient notice. Constant pressure from instructor to change session days and take road test early. English was instructor's third language, so communication was poor at best. Canceled after 3 lessons, refund was $487. Refund took twice the quoted time to process and required three phone calls. I did not receive $1200 worth of service or instruction from this business.AMA Response
