When my wife and I first went to Allied Flooring, we explained our requirements for the hardwood very precisely. We asked for natural maple with minimal variation. We were shown different samples and were given a final recommendation. We were told this product is exactly what we wanted, and that we won't be able to find anything better elsewhere. After placing the order, we went to the store and were given 4 pieces, and the boards looked fantastic. We paid a little over $20,000 for everything. On the day before installation, when the product arrived, we saw the hardwood and it looked nothing like the sample. Our builder agreed that it is not what we paid for. The invoice states that it’s select grade but in reality, we received character grade, which is a completely different product. The hardwood is dark with a lot of variation and did not match the samples we were given. Select grade should be uniform. In fact, we brought the sample hardwood to our staircase manufacturer, so they can match the nosing to the hardwood. and the colours are now completely different. We called Allied immediately and after patiently and politely waiting for 2 weeks, Allied is stalling and refusing to give a refund and return or offer any type of viable solution. The boss stopped answering our phone calls. There is no way we can install this hardwood in our forever home, as it is not the product we we were initially shown and we have been misled. We are now stuck with a ton of useless wood and out $20k. To be out this much money is devastating. We have even offered to pay for shipping, handling and opened boxes. But Allied is refusing to cooperate and ignoring our calls. As a result of their faulty product, we are also delayed with construction. We found a perfect hardwood elsewhere very easily, but we have to pay extra $3,000 to re-do the nosing for our stairs. Allied's hardwood is piled in the middle of our house so we can't do anything until they take it back and give us a refund.
