I am currently a member of Big Sky Fitness in Newington, CT and ONLY that location. I am moving 21 miles and 30 minutes away from that location and requested a cancellation due to moving more than 15 miles away from THAT location. I went through the proper process of emailing with proper notice and a copy of the lease of my new residence, and ABC is denying the cancellation because a DIFFERENT location, which I did not sign up for, is 15 miles away from where I am moving and said I have to transfer my membership. I did not and DO NOT want a membership there, if I did I would have signed up for that location. Instead they are trying to force to to drive 23 minutes out of my way for a gym I never signed up for. I did not agree to joining that location and I want my membership CANCELLED.Business response

My husband and I are licensed foster parents. When we found out that the gym that I was a member of named 10 Star Fitness in Spartanburg, SC employed a I went through the process of canceling my membership. I took this action on March 5th, 2021 and received an email that it would be canceled effective that day. I was told that processing took at least 30 days so we would be charged once more for membership at $21.99 and were charged on 3/24. However we continued to be charged the same $21.99 membership fee on 4/26, 5/24, and a renewal fee of $49.99 on 6/21. After being charged the renewal fee, I called and spoke with a supervisor and canceled a second time. We were assured that no more charges would be charged and we would receive a refund for $93.97 which was the amount charged. This cancellation still did not process, we received no refund, and we were charged $21.99 again on 6/24 resulting in a non-sufficient funds fee of $32. The charges have continued to be processed each month on 7/26, 8/24, 9/24, 10/25, 11/24, 12/24 and 1/24/22. We seek to have this account closed immediately and refunded all charges accrued after the initial cancellation in March of 2021 including the fee charged from our bank. The total amount to be refunded is $301.89.Business response

I've called time and time again to your establishment and they just redirect me to a new website. My complain is regarding my membership, I live nowhere close to your gyms yet I've been overdrafts time and time again it's almost a robbery at this point. I'm falling in debt and this recurring charge is not helping considering I don't have access to what I'm paying I'd appreciate you guys canceling my membership and I will provide whatever jumbo you need concerning regulations but I cannot afford something I have no access to. This company is stealing from me ! I could not get in contact with my gym thru phone because I have moved away and the gym ******* XXXXXXX never picked up the phone I have been trying to cancel since November 2021 I have been charged so much money all these months till now January 2021 , I finally got in touch with someone they told me to call abc financially I told them I immediately need to cancel and they said I need to email . Upon emailing they told me they can not do anything and I need to pay the past due balance and 30 days from the written request ! This is sickening !!! 3 months trying to cancel with this company !! And they are threading me if I don't pay they **** take it to collections , I was charged over $500 already and now I have to pay $103 for past due now 30 days more ??? This is unbelievable!! I signed up for Powerhouse gym in August or September. I only went there a few times. I was told when I signed up, that their bullying membership director no longer worked there. I then find out that she does still work there. She has body shamed me and blocked me from their business Instagram account. I felt so uncomfortable at that gym so I told them to cancel my membership and quit going. I reported my debit card lost and got a whole new card. Months later, I received a charge from you that was NOT AUTHORIZED to my new debit card! For 140 dollars! This is stealing! I did not give you my new card number or authorize you to take that money from my account! This is theft. I want it returned and I do not give you permission to touch a single dollar in my account ever again!Business response

ABC is the company that collects dues for FX Fitness (here in Ohio). FX Fitness has been closed for over 1-yr. ABC is asking me for payment on an account, when FX is closed. I have reached out to a FX eMail provided by ABC for cancelling my membership, a membership that is non-existent. Emails do not go through to a company that is closed. ABC is now harassing me on a regular basis via eMail, txt, & phone calls. ABC should be able to cancel accounts for FX since they do not exist any longer.Business response

I wanted to join a gym after moving to Brighton, Colorado. I was told I had a 30 day free trial period and then it would be a monthly fee of $50. I was told I had to give my information and sign a piece of paper to get the 30 day trial period in order to obtain a card. I was 16 years old at the time I signed up for what I thought was a free trial. After a couple of weeks I decided I couldn't afford the membership and went in and told the front desk person of the club. They looked me up on the computer and said it was canceled. I moved back in with my mom in February of 2021 in Westminster, CO. They had withdrawn money from my account and they said they never received a cancellation request from me. I explained I went in person and canceled it. They said they didn't have it in file, so they took out another $50 and said it was canceled. Now that I'm 18 years old, they are attempting to collect for a "cancellation fee" of almost $500. I was just a 16 year old kid when I signed the paper that I was lied to about telling me it was just for the free trial period. I never used the gym and moved out of the area 4 months later. I notified them in person and via phone that I didn't want the membership. They continue to harass me.Business response

They have still billing me for Asian Sun Martial arts club membership after I have emailed them for times and calling three times to cancel. I had a gym membership with an anytime fitness in north platte, Nebraska through ABC fitness. I moved 200 miles away so I tried to cancel my contract as it said I could due to distance. It was extremely difficult to get ahold of them and once I did they told me all I had to do was send them an email with proof of my move. They gave me the wrong email so had to try to contact them again and sent multiple different emails because they said my pay stub from a company 200 miles away wasn't proof enough. Finally they said I'd have to pay the next thirty days and also a late fee because I was switching banks and I missed my last payment. Came out to almost 200 dollars if I'm remembering correctly. Now they won't stop contacting me about changing my payment information. I do not have a subscription with them anymore. I find that wild. Would just like them to stop contacting me and make sure they aren't screwing me somehow.Business response

I originally signed up to Gold's Gym (now known as True Fitness) in May/June. I was originally told by the the gym representative that when needing to cancel all I would have to do is call ABC Fitness at least 2 months before the last billing date I would like to have. I called ABC fitness in July and asked to cancel my membership since I would be moving in September. They then let me know that to cancel my membership not only would I need to call but also send a letter to their address with my account information. This was already an additional step compared to what I was told so I wasn't too happy but I did as they said. I wrote the letter and mailed it like any normal mail. To my surprise in September I was charged for the membership I asked to be cancelled. When I called they let me know that they had no record of my letter. I repeated to them that I had called two months in advance and had also sent them the letter, if they lost it this was not of my concern as I had done what was asked of me. I asked them because of the inconvenience of losing my letter if they could just cancel my account and refund me the money. They let me know they would need to investigate and would get back to me in a week. A week passed and I hadn't heard anything so I called again, they told me the investigation was still pending and that I would have to wait another week. I proceeded to call again a week later and they said since they didn't have it in their records they wouldn't cancel my membership or refund me. I asked them if they could help me out and make an exception since they lost the letter they had asked of me and cancel my membership with a refund. They said that this is a gym policy and not theirs, but when I talked to the gym they said ABC is the one that handles it. Now they're trying to send me to collections over $60 and their mistake. If you see a gym that works with ABC Fitness, run away and far because this company is completely unprofessional.Business response
