In January of 2024 we received an advertisement from Burns Dentistry touting a special introductory price for a Full Series of Digital **Rays, Cleaning, and Oral Cancer Screening at a cost of $77.00. I made an appointment Upon arriving I presented the advertisement card to the receptionist. She thanked me for taking advantage of the $77 promotional. I completed my appointment and was asked to make another appointment for a consultation with ***************. Prior to my next appointment I received a claim update from my ********************** Burns Dentistry filed a claim for $372 for my $77 cleaning appointment.I called Burns and asked why the charge to my insurance company when the promotional ad was for $77. She explained that the fee of $77 was only if you paid cash. I asked why I had not been informed of that prior to my appointment. I explained I was a bit upset that my insurance was billed as we are only allotted so much for dental for the year and that I should have been informed of the cash requirement. My ************************, then decided to take advantage of the $77 cleaning and made an appointment. He paid the $77 cash, making a remark that this will save a claim on my dental insurance. No response. Two weeks later he received his claim notice from Humana. A charge of $420 had been made for his visit as well as an additional $108 for a periodontal evaluation. He called the office to inquire why a claim to the insurance company after he had paid cash. All he got was an apology.I feel the mailer advertisement as well as the web page verbiage is very misleading. No place in the ad does it say the $77 is only if you pay cash. And, it is not explained at the time of appointment. They are double dippin when accepting the $77, then in addition, charging our insurance company. This is the type of situation that gives the dental profession a *******************. I thank you in advance for your attention into this matter.Burns Dentistry Response

******, thank you so much for sharing your experience. It is unfortunate that when you have insurance and we are contracted with them that we have agreed on the fees associated with the procedures you receive. I know insurance can be tricky or hard to understand but we are obligated by contract. Our specials, as most are, are for those that do not have the benefit of insurance. I hope this helps! We wish you the best finding your new dental home and will be here if you need.Review from Bernard C

I made an appointment in early May because I had an infection that was causing me pain. My wife booked the appointment with a coupon for the first visit including x-rays at $79. When leaving I was billed $107 with no explanation. I did not know what the coupon amount was for at the time so I didn't ask any questions. I was prescribed antibiotics. On my second visit, June 10th, they did additional X-rays and scheduled a cleaning. They also prescribed antibiotics again. When I was checking out, the billing person called the hygienist out to look at "something that didn't make sense". When I left they gave me a **** that included a more than $500 back billing for the first appointment. I paid $297 when checking out. I return again for a tooth cleaning. This visit is uneventful. The next appointment was scheduled for June 30. It's a consult. I've now had a toothache for 2 months and we are just getting to the consult. During the consult my wife asks to speak to someone in billing to explain the back billing from my second visit. They sent in a woman who frankly seemed like she didn't want to be there. Her explanation was that "the billing is correct". No elaboration or explanation. The billing person then moves on to the next line and points out "and this wasn't charged on the next visit because of our computer system so again we back billed." That sent my wife over the edge. This woman had not even explained the first charge and had already moved on to show us where they had again back charged for something they couldn't or just wouldn't fully explain. She was just adamant that we should pay whatever was on the **** and that the billing was correct. She said the exact same thing multiple times never trying to explain anything. That's not the person you send into a room to explain things to a customer. My wife said she was done and that she didn't want to stay for any more of the consult so I said we'll just leave. My wife asked that they send ************* back in one more tBurns Dentistry Response

************************,I am so sorry you did not have a great experience. Upon reviewing everything it does appear that when you came in for the infected tooth that was causing you pain that you declined to do treatment and wait until your insurance was effective. It was recommended to have a comprehensive exam to prevent getting in the same painful situation you were in again. You were provided with the appropriate medications to assist you as much as possible to accommodate your wishes to wait. The good news is while you were waiting for your insurance to become effective you were able to take advantage of our new patient specials. With specials and insurance there are adjustments that are made and can be confusing or frustrating when you are looking at and don't understand. I apologize if the explanation was not sufficient and caused additional frustration. I would gladly have my administrative director review your account with you so you can have peace of mind. We are here to help if needed, and wish you all the best at your new dental home.Review from Kay M

I had an appointment yesterday 5/2/22. I went in and explained that I was not interested in Implants. I have upper and lower dentures that are over 11 yrs old. I know the gums have shrunk. I have had relines in the past that helped a lot. I asked if I could get a new set up uppers and lowers. Immediately they tried to talk me into Implants. They said new dentures are not going to help and i won't like them they said. How do they know what I will like or dislike. The Dentist was upset and got up to leave the room and said rudely "It's the cost" EXCUSE ME!! I have Delta Dental Premium through my work. Really good insurance. and ******** advantage. So now I'm going some were else.Burns Dentistry Response

****************, I am so sorry you felt your wants were heard. I did speak with the doctor and she shared that she allowed you to guide the complimentary consultation and spent quite a bit of time education you on the pros and cons of all your options. After determining we would not be able to fulfill the desired outcome you were looking for we referred to a highly recommended provider that *** be better suited for your specific wants and needs. We wish you nothing but the best.
