We rented a yacht for my girlfriends birthday and flew out people from all over the country. The captain canceled on us 18 hours before we were supposed to go, and these guys have been HORRIBLE. Its impossible to get a hold of anyone at customer service. They promised us a call back and never called. Its disgusting that they can get away with this. Steer clear!Get My Boat Response

Bo, We are very dissapointed that your initial reservation was canceled. We completley understand the impact a cancellation has regardless of the reason. We are aware that the boat owner encountered mechanical issues.Things do not always go as planned, however our goal is to do what we can to make things right. Our team reached out via phone and email using the information we have on file. The new reservation was confirmed, service fee waived, and our team has also followed up several times since. I would not recommend using GetMyBoat based on my recent experience with trying to book a boat on ************ for a group of ***** main point of contention is the lack of flexibility around their cancelation policy for weather. Many of the boats on ************ are $2000+ and offer a zero dollar back cancelation policy (even if weather is too severe to sail) and the GetMyBoat booking fee of 10.5% is fully non-refundable. Those who do offer a cancelation policy tend to only offer 80% back up to 10 days prior to the booking. This type of lead time for cancelation makes it very difficult to determine if the weather will be favourable to go out on the water. I selected a boat with the most flexible cancelation policy I could find which was 5 days with an 80% refund (excluding the 10.5% GetMy Boat Fee).The captain was gracious enough to extend this policy to allow us to cancel 3 days before but the weather forecast had 90% chance of heavy showers with *****mm of rain. I ended up having to cancel my reservation and was only refunded $940 of my $1,490 booking for services that will not be delivered. I asked GetMyBoat if they would provide a credit for a future booking for the $550 fee that was charged and they did not provide any concession or indicate any willingness to work with me to try and retain my future business. In my opinion, that's a short sighted business practice and a cash grab. Their customer service is slow to respond and generally not as customer centric as other 3rd party vacation/experiential booking platforms like VRBO or ******. Overall poor experience and an unsatisfied customer. Would not refer, would not recommend.Get My Boat Response

Hello ***,Having to cancel your plans to be out on the water is disappointing.Our records indicate your reservation was scheduled for September 7th, 2024, from noon to 3pm for 15 guests. The boat owner sent you an offer on August 26th, 2024, outlining the following ;Your Total: CAD $1,491.75 ====================Details:$1,350.00 Base Cost $141.75 *************** Fee (10.5%)====================* Service fees are non-refundable.Security Allowance: $500.00 CAD In the event of damage or incidental expenses, an additional charge up to this amount can be requested by the owner post-************************* Policy:80% refund of offer amount up to 5 days prior.As you can see, the service fee is noted as non-refundable for the amount of $141.75. You confirmed your reservation by making your payment shortly after. Unfortunately, you canceled your reservation on September 4th 2024 and indicated the reason as being due to heavy rain in the forecast. Our policy for weather cancellations is to provide a full refund, including our service fee if the boat owner determines conditions are unsafe. Our team did contact the boat owner to discuss the cancellation and potential refund. The boat owner advised they would only provide you with 80% of the booking fee (base cost), which does not include the non-refundable service fee.The boat owner has also agreed to credit you for the 20% payment they have collected. You can apply this credit to a future booking with them. Please remember that this would be 20% of the base cost of the reservation noted above. Rented a boat through the platform and leading up to our reservation I inquired multiple times through multiple channels (app, email, call, text) to the boat owner with no response as we were trying to understand the weather policy. Finally reached out to support, they asked for screenshots of communication attempts which I sent. Day before the trip the boat owner finally responds, accuses me of faking my outreach attempts, accuses GetMyBoat of scamming me out of $150, and then accuses me of faking a bank statement when I showed him I paid in full. He refused to give me a refund even though he acknowledged he did not respond to me. I follow up with support, explain the accusations and ask for a full refund given the terrible experience, they tell me it is up to the boat owner to decide, seems reasonable! He ended up caving on the 50% and support has done nothing to address the accusations or scam. Will not be using them again.Get My Boat Response

I have a rental business for pontoon boats. I have used getmyboat for 2 years and NEVER asked a customer to do a rental outside the platform. This platform is like a **** when it comes to controlling conversation. They must literally hover over chat conversations looking for any slight "violation" of their rules so they can lock you out! There are times you just NEED to talk to a customer before approval to prevent cancellation fees from the platform. My latest "lock out" was because i gave a customer phone number for delivery driver to make sure he is available before i approved the booking. AVOID this platform. Boatsetter.com is much better and allows contact outside their platform. I will not use GetmyBoat any more after this summer. Wish I could give them ZERO stars......Get My Boat Response

We built Getmyboat in such a way that you would have a new way to advertise your services to reach our broad sweeping customer base with no upfront costs. You only get hit with a small fee when you receive a paying customer from us. As discussed with you during your onboarding, off-platform communication is prohibited prior to the reservation being confirmed. As you decided to break our terms of service and bypass our system to get around our small fees, our support staff sent you an email to remind you of these terms. Your unprofessional responses to our staff resulted in our decision to remove your listing indefinitely.We expect both boat owners listed with us and renters to conduct themselves in a professional manner, we have zero tolerance for abusive or threatening conduct. Definition of reservation: an arrangement to have something held for one's use. also : a promise, guarantee, or record of such engagement. Our group of 8 people put down 100% deposit for a boat on May 26th, 2024 in ******, *****. 15 minutes before our reservation, as we are headed to the lake, we got a call stating theres no boat for us. None of us are from ****** and we all spent $1000s of all dollars on flights and accommodations to be in ****** and have a boat day. Additionally, we are here to celebrate our friend whos getting married and we were all extremely disappointed we flew from all over the country to be in ****** and ended up not having our reservation respected. Its absolutely outstanding how someone can take money from a group of people yet not hold or respect a reservation. This company is obviously a complete sham and its not acceptable to promise something they cant accommodate.Get My Boat Response

DON'T USE. I booked a charter for my late fathers burial at sea in the ****. After booking a month prior they cancelled less than 48 hours before the pickup time saying the boat was broke I would get a refund. I was ok with that except they left me no suggestions of who else we could call or book a boat with and this is with family from 3 states flying in and had already left when I got the cancellation. I emailed back several times begging for a referral or something to help me find another boat. Nothing from this company. I wasted 3 hours finding another company on my OWN and had to cancel and pay a cancellation fee from another company as I booked a fishing boat before I found another charter out of DESPERATION!!! I tried to leave a bad review but they have all the social media places that you can leave reviews blocked. I was shocked when I looked at the BBB reviews as all their other reviews are 4 and 5 stars but that's due to they pay to have them blocked. Thank god for the BBB to find out what companies are really about. So intern don't use this company they are as SHADY as they come!!!Get My Boat Response

We hold boat owners accountable when they fall short of our expectations. The boat owner canceled your reservation on April 18th, advising that the boat was broken. Our support staff reached out to you on the same day by phone and left you a voicemail; they also sent an email to assist in finding another boat owner on the platform. We received no response from you. Our support staff called again the following morning and offered to find you another option. You declined the offer and were advised of your frustration with the boat owner. Our team processed your refund in full, as you advised that you booked another boat elsewhere. Our team reached out to you again today to address your concerns about leaving a review for the boat owner. As the boat owner canceled the reservation, you did not receive a request to leave a review from them. You can send us your review, and we can ensure it is added to the owners listing. We believe in transparency and welcome all reviews on customer experiences. There also seems to be some confusion. You were communicating with the boat owner on the platform, not our staff. The boat owner failed to respond to your messages after notifying you of the cancellation. We will address that with the boat owner directly. Again, our support staff contacted you to offer assistance, but unfortunately, you were verbally abusive, insulted the staff member, and used inappropriate language throughout the interaction. We cannot speak to the boat owners profile outside of our platform; as you mentioned, it was difficult for you to leave a review for them there. We have no control over third-party review sites and their process, and we do not pay for anything related to reviews. In fact, our BBB rating is A, and our ****** reviews are 4.9 out of 5. Rented boats successfully 3 times, but last time was a nightmare and costing me more than all the other rentals. I rented a boat and went 1000 feet before ran out of gas. Turns out fuel line probably broke when the owner showed me the prop. The owner says it's my fault and getbyboat is charging me not only for the boat rental which never happened, but damages and compentation! I didn't even get a 2 min boat ride! Do not use GetMyBoat.com, it is a scam and they don't help. I rented my first boat on here, once paid the owner stopped responding. In the end, the night before, he finally responds after I reached out to their support, and says that the boat won't be available. I had family coming with us to the boat for my brother's birthday. Their support did nothing for me but claim they'll refund my money. That does nothing since this was my brother's birthday party and now we're without a boat and I've spent part of my weekend going back and forth with the owner and their support, ending up with nothing. He could have responded, or told me sooner that this wasn't going to work. Horrible company, when you're boat gets canceled they do nothing for you. Stay away!Get My Boat Response

Do not use this company. I purchased a boat for my bfs 30th surprise party for 12 of us. We were scheduled on a Sat at 12pm, ****pm Thursday night prior the boat owner messaged stating there would be a change in captain and pickup location, no mention of complete boat change. When getting down there we found it to be a diff boat completely. The new captain had his 6 year old daughter on the boat & after setting off, we found his gf, a dog & a turtle also on the boat. The captain was rude, there was no room for me or my guests because he gave priority to his daughter to be where we were all trying to be. We paid for 4 hours but he sailed off late & returned early. He even tried blocking us from using the amenities on the listing, that we paid for. I contacted support with all of this. They asked for proof of it all, i have proof of different boat/sail numbers, the entire boat and the additional people/animals brought on by the captain, and the rude and retaliating messages from the captain. I even have a video of the captain having my friend steer the boat when she was clearly uncomfortable, because he needed help. Originally Captain ******* had left us a good review, and messaged us privately saying hope we had fun but after I complained and left a bad review they said we broke the toilet and peed on the floor, which was obviously retaliation. I brought all of this to getmyboat and they said we were nice to the captains daughter, therefore making it a public event and should pay for it. They refunded me $50 and now are emailing me saying they want to hold a security deposit for the broken toilet, which was never broken by us. There is no consumer protection, they take the word of the boat owner with no proof over a customer with mounds of proof.Get My Boat Response
