I located a car on the online website TruCar. It indicated that the vehicle had been with the dealer for 1 day. I asked to see the vehicle. I was told the vehicle was at the shop going through its certification process and would be available by Tuesday 8/27. I was told I'd be called and be the first to see it. Meanwhile, I went to test drive a similar model to be sure of my purchase. At the time, I told the salesperson I was ready to move forward and she told me again I'd be the first to see the vehicle when it was out of the shop. On Monday 826 at 9am I received this text: Good morning *******, I just reached out to our service department and should know in the next few hours a better timeline of when the car should be ready. I replied Thanks and keep me posted. at 928am, I received this message: I did overhear that there is one other person interested in that car as well so I am waiting to see if it's possible for you to see it today once it finishes inspection. I replied again, yes, that'd be great, assuming I would see the car at its earliest availability. At 147pm, I received this surprising message: Hey ******* so unfortunately someone just came in and is buying the car sight unseen. If there's any other cars you see on our website you may be interested in let me know. Sorry about that. This is a classic bait and switch, false advertisement. When I complained to the **, she denied this and said I had just lost out, that this happens all the time. My complaint: 1) the advertised car was never available to see. It was advertised online as available, and I made a good faith effort to see it and to arrange a showing when first available. 2) The dealer offered a more expensive car from a sister lot that had fewer miles, but different features, many we did not want. I told the dealer that the right action to rectify selling the car t would be to price match on the other vehicle. The ** suggested this was not bad business. This is an awful dealership. Stay clear.

Hello Mazda of San Diego Response

    *******,

We apologize for the inconvenience this situation has caused. As per our conversation, situations like this dont happen often and we strive to not have them occur, but as you know preowned vehicles are currently in high demand and while we try to accommodate our market, it is sometimes hard to do so.   We provided a few options for you but as you mentioned they were not something you wanted to proceed with. We did offer you an option that had half the miles and more equipment making it slightly higher than your budget. Please know if we could have provided a comparable model at that same price with the same miles, color, and equipment we would have. We strive to provide the best customer experience to every guest. If there is anything we can do either now or in the future to assist, please let us know.
