I got a California Flood Insurance policy with ******* Byrom Insurance Agency two years ago. The policy premium was $280/year for my home that is not in a flood zone though I thought it prudent to get coverage anyway.This year the policy premium went up 67% with no explanation. I had no claims on the policy. So I called ******* Byrom Insurance agency and talked with an agent who could not explain why the policy jumped up so much. He only said that the policy was "unsustainable" at the $280/year price they previously offered and that I signed up for. He went on to explain that a $200 bump in annual premium is nothing and that I still had a good deal. He was rude, demeaning, and uncaring about my complaint of the 67% increase. I pointed out that if it goes up every year by 67% it would quickly become unaffordable. I stated that I could understand 10% to 15% increase per year, but not 70%. The agent insisted rudely that I shouldn't complain about it, the price went up 70% but it is only $200. The agent was not at all empathetic and showed no care at all about this policy-holder's concerns. I would hate to find out how unconcerned they'd be if I ever had to file a claim. Really awful experience talking with the agent. I'd hate to repeat it, ever.Without a solid explanation of why the policy premium increased, I believe ******* Byrom Insurance Agency and/or their associated carriers may be practicing either "bait and switch" or price gouging. Either way, they'd be one despicable agency. I never got an answer from the agent why the price went up nearly 70% in one year. He never offered that I could talk with anyone else who may know why. He was increasingly hostile and accusatory as the discussion ensued. Horrible experience. Totally unprofessional.
